Family Futures provides an integrated interdisciplinary, assessment, treatment and family-finding service for children who are traumatised or have attachment difficulties. Our groundbreaking Neuro-physiological Psychotherapy (NPP) model takes a body-based and neuro-sequential approach to healing developmentally traumatised children and supporting their families and network. Our services extend to adoptive, foster, special guardian, and at risk families.
What you will be doing.
This volunteer role is within our Marketing and Communications team, working closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager and other roles across Family Futures, to achieve our fundraising targets, objectives and values. Our therapy, adoption and fostering services for children and families depend on our financial resilience.
By volunteering as a Funding and Grants Volunteer you will be helping us develop our fundraising strategy to ensure we have funds for projects which will improve our therapy space and better serve the community through enhanced services.
This is a rewarding opportunity to get involved in the ongoing development of Family Futures and to play an important role in helping generate income and build a pipeline of new funding opportunities to improve the mental health and outcomes of developmentally traumatised children.
Who is right for the role.
We are particularly looking for those who have some or all of the following qualities and experience:
- has a proven track record of successful trusts and foundations fundraising and knowledge of fundraising regulations.
- has effective communication and collaboration skills
- can build effective working relationships with others.
- is willing to keep proactively up to date with the external fundraising environment, identifying trends and opportunities.
- can understand the financial set up, budgets challenges and opportunities.

Our Support and Information team offer a wide range of inclusive and accessible services to support those diagnosed with a brain tumour and their families.
One of our most critical services is our Support and Information Line, which is open between 9am-5pm, Monday—Friday. This service offers a place for people affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, to ask questions or raise concerns about a diagnosis, and how to support a loved one. We continue to see an increase in people accessing these services, and strive to work in smarter ways to manage this increase.
How can you help?
We are looking for volunteers to help us to run the Support Line more efficiently, by answering calls and asking some key questions to ensure the caller is transferred/triaged to the most appropriate support for them. This is an opportunity to be on the frontline of our support services and to play a vital role, in ensuring those that we support get the best service possible.
- Answer incoming calls to the Support Line with empathy and understanding
- Ask specific questions to understand the caller’s support needs and transfer to the appropriate teams
- Accurately record information about the call onto our secure database
- Assist the support team in specific project areas where appropriate
- Engage in peer supervision to ensure your wellbeing needs are met
We’re looking for...
- Experience or confidence in answering calls and speaking on the phone
- Strong IT and computer skills, ideally experience of using databases
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of empathy and resilience

How much of my time would you like?
To ensure we have volunteer cover for the full Support Line opening hours, we are looking for volunteers to commit to a minimum of one 4-hour morning or afternoon shift.
Due to the continuous training involved, we would ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of six months spent volunteering with us.
How will I be trained and supported?
- You will receive a full online induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and your role here, as well as in-house training on the use of our database and phone system.
- You will receive weekly supervision after each shift and ongoing support through online webinars, emails and telephone calls, from a dedicated staff contact.
- You’ll have the opportunity to keep in touch and gain support from other volunteers in the same role.

We’re always looking for empathetic individuals with great listening skills to train as non-religious pastoral support volunteers and join the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network (NRPSN), working within Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care teams to provide like-minded support for people in difficult times. Research has shown that despite purporting to support everyone, only 4% of chaplaincy team visits are made to non-religious people. However, 69% of the population think specific non-religious care should be available, and non-religious people have the same need to talk about ‘the big questions’ and receive like-minded support.
Our volunteers and paid members work in the NHS, HMPPS, and the armed forces. We have trained more than 300 pastoral carers, and currently have a presence in 9% of prisons and in 30% of NHS Trusts and growing. The covid-19 pandemic has severely affected our volunteer numbers, and we are working hard to ensure that non-religious pastoral care is available to all. Through this exciting volunteer role, you will help us understand our services’ quality by listening to the people we support. You will help us by contacting people while they are receiving our services to make sure we are providing our patients and families with excellent care, and if there are issues, to help us nip things in the bud.
This role has the scope for broader conversations with people about their experiences at the end of life. Gaining insight and understanding allows us to ensure we’re there for all people experiencing dying, death and bereavement.
What we need you to do
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Speak with patients and families over the phone to complete surveys about their experiences of our care and support.
- Record data accurately, capturing as much as possible in the person’s own words.
- Input feedback data into online an online database.
- If comfortable, undertake analysis of data to help us report on themes and trends; what we are doing well and what we can improve.
- Communicate with patients and families how we use their feedback and ideas to improve services, where appropriate.
- Work with the Clinical Nurse Managers to highlight any issues and concerns about the care provided in their services.
- Relay positive feedback to Marie Curie Nursing staff and volunteers.
- If comfortable, conduct semi-structured interviews to understand peoples’ lived experiences of dying, death, and bereavement.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Coping with a diagnosis of a terminal or life-limiting illness involves painful feelings, coming to terms with loss and making adjustments in life.
We are looking for volunteers to offer emotional and/or bereavement support either in a group setting through facilitation of support groups, or on one to one individual basis. You will be helping people to explore their feelings and adapt to their new life after a diagnosis or the death of a loved one.
This role is supporting patients and families who are over 18 only.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Provide emotional and/or bereavement support either in the hospice, in a small group setting, over the phone or at the person’s home, according to local resources.
- Actively listen to clients and explore their feelings around the diagnosis/loss with empathy
- Pass on appropriate information to your line manager.
- Complete appropriate documentation as required in line with our confidentiality (service user) policy.
- Assist staff in the Patient and Family Support team when necessary
- Adhere to hospice record keeping procedures
- Assist with other related tasks when necessary

You will act as a ‘critical friend’ and sounding board to the Chair, while remaining open to feedback about the Chair, LMK and the operations of the board from other Trustees, the CEO and members of staff. LMK’s Vice Chair will be asked to take on specific responsibility for risk and compliance, providing expertise and oversight of the risk register and contributing to sub-committees as needed.
Chair of Safeguarding Subcommittee Experience of managing safeguarding operations and up to date knowledge of safeguarding legislation is key for this role. You will champion safeguarding at board level and, through your role as Chair of the Safeguarding Subcommittee, work with the staff team to ensure that LMK has effective policy and practice in place, as well as the right culture and understanding around duty of care more generally.
Trustee (Generalist) You will have experience in one of the following sectors: VAWG, Education, Mental Health, Community Engagement or Youth Work, and be willing to use your knowledge to guide LMK in the creation of its strategy, programmes, materials, and marketing or social media content.

Young Humanists are the voice for non-religious young people. Two-thirds of young people are non-religious. We provide them with the community and platform that their voices deserve. We think young people have a right to be heard and that more should be done to ensure policy reflects their views.
Young Humanists is led by a committee that drives national and regional events throughout the year. They are supported by a team of local Ambassadors, who are the ‘on the ground’ representatives, working as part of local humanist or other community groups. We also have a team of volunteers specialising in areas like social media, design and research, who support the committee and individual Ambassadors.
We are seeking a dedicated and driven Northern Ireland-based individual to join our network of Ambassadors, to assist the committee by:
- Sitting on the Northern Ireland Humanists committee, providing a formal link to Young Humanists by championing issues that are particularly relevant to young people in Northern Ireland.
- Putting on events with a view to getting younger people involved (e.g. pub quizzes, campaign work, family-friendly events like coffee mornings or Sunday brunches, litter picks or picnics)

Why we need your help
The Marie Curie Dementia Befriending service is provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness that have dementia and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Befriender volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
What we need you to do
Your role will include, some of, but not restricted to the following tasks:
- Complete all initial mandatory Dementia Befriender volunteer training, as well as any refresher training whilst you are a Marie Curie volunteer
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, for example in a family’s home, in a care home or out in the community.
- Provide one to one companionship and support. For example - Offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in everyday conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Accompanying them to an appointment, social groups or taking short trips out. Helping with small daily tasks eg making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. Signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested.
(This list is only an outline as support will vary according to the needs of those using the service. Dementia Befriender volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (eg to chemotherapy appointments or day therapy at the hospice)
- Follow all mandatory procedures that form part of the Dementia Befriending service. Examples include submitting written report forms, identifying and briefing a lone worker Buddy, and following procedures for lone worker safety.
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend group events and training sessions for Marie Curie Dementia Befriender volunteers
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator as required
- Represent the Marie Curie Dementia Befriending service positively to those using the service
- Support with Advanced Care Planning for clients
What skills or experience do you need?
- Commitment and reliability - able to keep appointments and volunteer for approximately 3 hours a week
- Patience, empathy and emotional stability
- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality
- Willing to be flexible to the needs of the individual

JOB DESCRIPTION
Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and support.
For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Companion volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required
- Represent the Marie Curie Companion service positively to those using the service

Outline of the role
Our Information Service offers independent, impartial and confidential information and support. As part of our Information Service, we have a dedicated team of volunteers, who help older people – and their friends, family and carers – with form-filling, applications and paperwork. Examples include Attendance Allowance, Blue Badge and Personal Independence Payments.
Fellow Information Service volunteers will refer people needing help to you, for you to contact them by telephone, email or face-to-face, to assist them with their forms, applications and paperwork, either on paper or online. During a typical month, you may help 2-3 people, which usually takes between 30 minutes to three hours per person, depending on the type of form/application/paperwork and the support needed.
All training would be provided, and you will be required to undertake regular training/reading to keep up-to-date with the latest practices and guidance. A car would be an advantage.
We are following strict Covid-safe guidelines and a DBS check will be required.

To be an Information Volunteer (Form-Filler), we are looking for someone who is:
- An excellent communicator, both in writing and orally
- Good interpersonal skills
- Able to review and extract relevant information
- Understanding

- Happy to travel in your local community and surrounding areas
