East London Waterworks Park is looking for illustrators, animators and graphic designers to help campaign in the creation of our new park with natural swimming ponds.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for illustrators, animators and graphic designers to contribute to our community-led working circle who are working on coordinating our digital marketing. 

There is opportunity to lead on projects across content creation, social media, film or any other channels of interest, and facilitate the direction of the working circle.

The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

While technical skills are essential, we also value your ability to think creatively and strategically. You should have experience in creating engaging visual content for various platforms that will engage stakeholders and decision makers, such as public reports, presentations for decision makers, social media and websites. A strong understanding of storytelling and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively through visuals will be invaluable. You should be comfortable with community-led processes. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.

Your role at Roots is to produce well-curated teaching notes, to ensure instructors understand the content and know exactly what is being taught.

• Assessing the current standard of teacher note 

• Taking on the role of editor/proofreader of all academic content

• Have a keen eye for detail such as grammar, language and punctuation

Role Summary.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.

· Background in teaching, mentoring, or classroom observation.

· A supportive but honest approach to giving feedback.

· Good understanding of what makes a lesson effective and engaging.

· Confident communicator with good organisation skills.

· Able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

· Respectful of diverse backgrounds and familiar with Islamic learning settings.

• Infrastructure Management: Manage Firebase IAM and service accounts, ensuring secure and efficient access to our services.

• CI/CD Implementation: Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines on GitHub for both application code and Firebase Functions, automating deployments across development, staging, and production environments.

• Security: Manage and enforce security rules across all Firebase services to protect data and maintain a secure environment.

• Quality Assurance: Develop and execute integration tests. Manage and utilize tools like Firebase Test Lab and other paid testing software to ensure our apps are stable and bug-free b

• Track changes that are being implemented and measure whether they're actually making a difference for students.

What we’re looking for

• Proven experience in a data, research, or insight role.

• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in handling both qualitative (e.g., thematic analysis) and quantitative (e.g., survey data, performance metrics) data.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to different audiences.

• Experience in creating user-friendly documentation is highly desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders and influence cross-functional teams to act on recommendations.

• Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel/Google Sheets is essential, along with experience with survey platforms (e.g., Tally, SurveyMonkey) and BI tools (e.g., Google Looker/Data Studio, Power BI).

• Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation; experience with version control (Git/GitHub) and familiarity with data engineering concepts (e.g., ETL) or the GCP data stack (e.g., BigQuery) is desirable.

• A proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership, able to independently identify opportunities for improvement and drive change.
