Executive and Finance Officer

We’re looking for a proactive and highly organised Executive and Finance Officer to play a vital role in the operations of Centre for Mental Health.

This varied and interesting role supports our CEO and Board, managing day-to-day operations and taking on key finance and HR responsibilities. This will include financial support: reconciling accounts, processing invoices, supporting our Board by organising meetings and helping with many aspects of recruitment, onboarding and assisting our staff team. In this role, you will be at the heart of our team’s success.

You will need to bring outstanding organisational skills, strong IT ability, and experience in financial processes (with knowledge of Sage 50). Experience of working in a charity is desirable.

A Diocesan Finances Review was undertaken in 2025 which resulted in several key changes to financial flows between dioceses and the National Church Institutions. The purpose of this role is to design and implement the process changes, operational arrangements and governance necessary to support new ways of working for the NCIs and Dioceses.

The main change relates to the simplification of the administration of funding in relation to ordained ministry training. Dioceses will contribute to a single Ministry Training Fund which will meet the costs of ordained ministry training (fees, accommodation costs, maintenance and travel expenses), with administration carried out by the National Team, to provide a one-stop-shop for ordinands to understand entitlements, apply for grants and claim expenses. The post holder will be responsible for designing and implementing new technology-enabled processes and ways of working to support the efficient and effective operation of the Ministry Training Fund.

£10 million of funding was provided within the national Church of England's spending plans for 2026-28 to enable detailed analysis and planning to be undertaken (including pilot initiatives) focused on addressing structural overheads in the Church, and opportunities to reduce duplication and complexity. This role will enable appropriate governance processes in relation to the allocation and oversight of these monies.

The Spending plans also incorporate savings targets (£4 million + in 2026-28 and £20 million + by 2029-31) in some key areas relating to Bishops and Archbishops' ministry costs and National Church costs. This role will work with the relevant groups charged with delivering those savings, to ensure adequate oversight and monitoring, and report back to key governance bodies on a regular basis.

Finance Coordinator is a new role to support our expanding services.

This newly created role will form part of our Finance Team. As a member of a small but dynamic team, you will work closely with the Senior Finance Officer and Head of Finance. Your role will be critical to our success, with your principal responsibilities including:

Regional Operational Manager

The postholder will lead service managers, manage stakeholder relationships and pursue development opportunities across the capital.

Key requirements:

· Proven leadership experience managing services for vulnerable children, young people, and families.

· Strong background in team management, budget oversight, and quality assurance.

· Skilled in stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and service development.

· Experience with tenders, funding bids, and strategic growth.

· Knowledge of safeguarding, compliance, and data-driven performance monitoring.

· Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with an understanding of intersectionality.

· Excellent communication, project management, and organisational skills.

· A recognised qualification in social work, health, education, youth work (or equivalent), and ideally a management qualification.

We are looking for an experienced finance professional wanting a new challenge that offers flexibility and purpose. CHASE Africa is a growing international NGO seeking a dedicated and qualified Part-Time Finance Manager to join our small, friendly team in Somerset.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with extensive financial expertise, who is seeking a part-time position where they can apply their skills to a meaningful mission.

About CHASE Africa

We are a UK-based international NGO with ambitious plans for growth. We work through local partners in East Africa to improve health and wellbeing in marginalised communities, focusing on reproductive health, and a one-health approach that also incorporates environmental protection.

We are a small but dedicated team, committed to a collaborative approach to partnership. We're currently going through an exciting period of transition and growth, with a new CEO in 2022, a new charitable structure in 2023, and registering of a new entity in Kenya in 2025. Our income is forecast to exceed £1 million in 2025. Your role will be vital in helping us achieve our future goals.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will oversee all financial aspects of our UK and international operations. This is a critical role that ensures our financial stewardship is sound and our systems are effective.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.

• Ensuring timely and accurate bookkeeping and preparing monthly management accounts.

• Preparing statutory accounts and managing the annual audit process.

• Managing donor grants, including producing budgets for applications and preparing financial reports.

• Ensuring compliance with UK charity financial regulations (Charity SORP).

• Providing financial capacity-building support to our in-country partners.

About You

You are a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with at least five years of experience in financial management, including some in the charity or NGO sector. You have a strong working knowledge of UK charity financial regulations and are proficient with accounting software, especially SAGE, and Microsoft Excel.

You are a proactive self-starter with excellent analytical and communication skills, able to work both independently and as part of a small, dynamic team. Most importantly, you are committed to CHASE Africa’s mission to improve health and wellbeing in East Africa.
