Job description

A small international NGO with headquarters in London, is seeking a part-time Finance Manager for a permanent role. The role will be for 3 days per week (22.5 hours per week) with the possibility to increase to a full-time role in the future.

The organisation both gives and receives grants, and is focused on the protection and freedoms of the media and lawyers in developing countries.

The role will report to the Finance Director, and will manage one Finance Officer. It will involve a mixture of day-to day operational finance, and managing donor funds (from the UK, EU and US). Applicants with experience in an international NGO with strong understanding of donors and grants will be best suited to this position.

Typical duties:

-Manage day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable/grants claims, bank reconciliations, general accounting functions (including petty cash)

-Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet/control accounts

-Financial evaluation of grant applications and evaluation of financial reports from grantees, including on-site support/evaluation visits

-Support the Finance and Operations Director to improve economy and efficiency across the organisation and ensure a robust internal control environment, including through identification/development, implementation and enhancement of relevant systems and processes

-Support the Finance and Operations Director with the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly financial forecasts, management reports, donor reports and statutory annual accounts.

-Basic HR duties, including managing payroll

-Office and premises management duties including overseeing IT support (with the Finance Director)


-Fully or part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience

-Experience working in an NGO

-Demonstrable experience of charity accounting and donor funding management

-Experience managing staff

-The right to work in the UK is required for this role

-An interest in human rights, media and legal issues would be an advantage
