A growing UK-based charity is seeking a Finance Manager to join its finance team on a maternity cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of financial accounting and reporting within a purpose-driven organisation delivering meaningful social impact.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a central role in ensuring high-quality financial management, robust controls and accurate reporting across both the charity and its trading subsidiary. About the Role
The Finance Manager is responsible for maintaining strong financial controls and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting to support organisational decision-making. Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Control

• Maintain accurate accounting records across the organisation and its trading subsidiary

About You
We are seeking a fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA preferred) with post-qualification experience.
You will bring:

• Strong financial accounting experience, including month-end and management reporting 
• Knowledge of charity accounting and Charity SORP (desirable) 
• Experience supporting audits and preparing statutory accounts 
• Understanding of VAT, including partial exemption or similar schemes 
• Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, lookups) 
• Experience working with finance systems (e.g. Access Financials or similar) 
• Strong attention to detail and ability to analyse financial data effectively 
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage non-finance stakeholders 
• Experience managing or mentoring junior staff

The Role

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting 

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records using accounting software (currently Xero ) 

• Prepare clear and insightful monthly management accounts for the ED and Board of Trustees 

• Monitor cash flow, manage banking, and provide regular financial forecasts 

• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the ED and programme leads 

• Help Budget leads to manage devolved targets through reports and Quarterly Review 

• Prepare year-end statutory accounts and liaise with the external independent examiners or auditors 

• Ensure financial systems, processes and controls are fit for purpose and continuously improved 

Grant & Fund Management 

• Maintain accurate tracking of all restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring full compliance with funder terms and conditions

• Proven experience managing restricted and unrestricted grant funds

Job Description

This is a responsible position managing the accounts and payroll of a medium-sized West London youth charity. The role is central to maintaining the charity’s financial wellbeing and thereby enhancing opportunities for young people.

It is a part-time role, with plenty of flexibility. Working from home and coming into our office at least once a week, you can spread the weekly hours across 3, 4 or 5 days – whatever works for you. You’ll be working closely with the Treasurer, Chief Executive, Fundraiser and Programme Director as well as our HR Manager and Operations Manager, with whom you will share some admin support.

Role Requirements

· Manage day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable/grants claims, bank reconciliations, general accounting functions.

· Perform monthly journals and reconciliation of balance sheet/control accounts, including accruals, prepayments, deferred income and fixed assets.

· Claim monthly the Gift Aid that has not already been collected through donation platforms.

· Produce timely and accurate monthly reports for budget holders to help them effectively manage their budgets, ensuring that spend is being properly tracked and allocated against programmes and grants/donations.

· Hold regular meetings with budget holders following the production of the monthly reports.

· Work with the CEO, Treasurer, Fundraiser and programme/operational budget holders where necessary to:

o Provide the Finance Committee with a monthly dashboard

o Co-ordinate the annual budget process, and produce quarterly financial forecasts.

o Manage cashflow projection

· Support the Monitoring and Evaluation manager with donor reports

· Liaise with the auditors throughout the audit process, providing supporting schedules and  grant documentation in support of the TB figures provided.

· Prepare the statutory annual accounts for review by the auditors.

· Manage payroll (30+staff), pensions and the allocation of project personnel costs. This includes liaison with the HR and programme managers to ensure the Employment Hero payroll system is processing HR information and timesheets correctly.

· Process improvement – work with key stakeholders to ensure that finance processes are fit for purpose and implementing change where improvements can/should be made.

· Ensure the Avenues has appropriate internal controls in place and is meeting all tax and audit obligations.

· Preparation and maintenance of a finance manual.

· Deal with general finance queries, both externally and from members of the team

· Co-supervise the finance and operations administrator

The Role:

• Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and bank processes, ensuring seamless transaction processing.

We are recruiting for a values-driven and experienced finance leader to join Mary’s Meals International (MMI) as Senior Finance Manager. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will provide leadership to the MMI Finance team, ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality financial management, reporting and control across our global movement.

This is a key role within the Finance & Procurement Directorate, supporting an ambitious growth strategy. You will play a central role in strengthening financial stewardship, ensuring robust controls are in place, and promoting value for money across our global network.

In this role, you will combine strategic oversight with hands-on leadership - driving excellence in financial reporting, treasury management, compliance, and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.

You will:

• Lead and develop the MMI Finance team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative and accountable culture.
• Oversee the production of monthly management accounts, forecasts and trend analysis, providing meaningful financial insight to support decision-making.
• Lead on donor financial reporting and proposal support, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely delivery.

About you

You will be a qualified finance professional (CCAB or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience and a strong track record of leading finance teams. Strategic yet pragmatic, you will be comfortable operating at both operational and senior levels - providing clear financial insight, strengthening controls, and supporting organisational growth across a global network.

You will bring significant experience in UK financial reporting (FRS 102), alongside proven experience developing high-performing teams and implementing effective policies, systems, and change initiatives. With strong analytical and conceptual capability, you will translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insight. You will also have experience managing auditors, financial institutions, and external service providers, and be able to prioritise effectively, work autonomously, and deliver to deadlines.

Strong communication skills, sound judgement, and cultural sensitivity are essential in building effective relationships across diverse international contexts. Experience within a UK charity or multinational charitable context, including understanding of UK charity reporting (Charities SORP) would be highly desirable.

You will review VAT returns, support operational teams, provide detailed tax advice on new projects, manage relationships with HMRC, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. You'll also collaborate closely with colleagues in corporation tax, employment tax, payroll, and finance, while contributing to high quality reporting and internal guidance.
