We’re entering an exciting phase of growth across the country and are looking for a Group Finance Director to join our Executive Leadership Team to contribute to the collective leadership of the TLC Group.

The Role

This role will lead the financial strategy and financial management of the TLC Group.

You will:

· Lead financial strategy to ensure sustainability and growth.

· Advise the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board on financial matters.

· Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, and financial planning.

· Ensure strong governance, controls, and regulatory compliance.

· Provide clear, high-quality financial reporting and Board assurance.

· Lead audit, statutory reporting, and external auditor relationships.

· Oversee financial systems and processes to support growth.

· Lead financial due diligence for partnerships, mergers, and opportunities.

· Lead and develop the finance team, promoting accountability, and transparency.

About You

We’re looking for a values-led, people-focused leader with sound judgement and strong operational experience.

You’ll bring:

· Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

· Significant senior finance leadership experience.

· Strong expertise in financial strategy, planning, and governance.

· Experience of Board reporting and working with senior stakeholders.

· Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management.

· Experience in financial modelling and supporting growth.

· Proven ability to lead and develop high performing teams.

· Strong analytical skills, including advanced excel capability.

· Able to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences.

· Collaborative, values-led, and motivated by social impact.

 

The Offer

· Salary: £61,429 - £71,069

· 37 hours per week

· Hybrid working, with time spent at TLC Group offices (various locations across England).

This is a new role, working remotely from the UK and reporting to the Directors to handle the increased financial and logistics workflow of the organisation as we embark on a new 18-month EU-funded grant. In this respect, the role involves day to day operational and financial administration but is also an opportunity for a flexible and pro-active person to support the organisation’s development and expand its capabilities, and also to engage with project partners and learn more about our work. While this is a fixed term contract, the role may be extended (subject to funding) and evolve to meet changing needs. As a small team, we are open to flexible working. 

Grant management:

• Financial administration: ensure accurate records and supporting documentation is kept for all financial transactions, including regular entry of data into the relevant financial and budget management systems.
• Manage sub-grants to partners and consultants as allowed for within project budgets, ensuring timely receipt and processing of financial reports, and checking accuracy of invoices, timesheets, receipts and all supporting documentation, contracts, etc. in line with donor requirements.
• Budget monitoring and tracking: Preparing monthly forecasts and expenditure updates, to enable timely and efficient expenditure of project funds in accordance with the deliverables and budgets in grant contracts.
• Prepare quarterly financial reports for donors ensuring accuracy, accountability and alignment with donor contract requirements and Indie Peace policies.

Logistics support: Supporting the organisation and financial administration of Indie Peace project initiatives. Includes:

• Remote support in organising events, meetings and project activities in the regions where Indie Peace works, e.g. arranging meeting/conference venues within budget limitations, organising transport/accommodation bookings, ensuring documentation is in place (e.g. financial documentation, participant lists, etc.).
• Support Indie Peace Directors’ activities while travelling on business, as required, including supporting logistics, preparing expense reports with supporting receipts, maintaining timesheets, etc.

Other:

• Entry of financial transactions into accounting software, ensuring all financial records are recorded and all payments reconciled in a timely manner.
• Prepare monthly expense and financial reports, maintaining and updating cash flow forecast.
• General administrative support as agreed.

Line-management and relationships: While the position works with both Directors of the organisation, day to day line management and supervision is provided by the Director responsible for operations. Other people the post will need to liaise or maintain communication with on a regular basis include: in-country partners, consultants, and donor representatives. While this is a remote role, we would require occasional in-person meetings, usually in London which is where Indie Peace is based. 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years of proven experience in UK-based international non-profit organisation, involving financial management of EU grants.

Related Skills or Knowledge:

• Experience of EU grants and financial management.
• Experience in reporting and accounting in the not-for-profit sector, including donor reporting.
• Experience with budget monitoring and oversight.
• Experience of a range of finance functions (bookkeeping, reporting, audit, etc.).
• Experience of systems management (financial or otherwise)
• High level of professionalism and attention to detail.
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Proficiency in MS Office Applications, especially Word and Excel, is required.
• Experience using accounting software, such as Xero.
• Ability to communicate effectively. Strong written and oral skills in English. Russian is a strong advantage.

Contract hours and time-frame: 15 months (July 2026 – September 2027) fixed term contract.

Day-to-day, you'll answer questions, solve problems, and steadily deepen your expertise whilst being the trusted specialist colleagues rely on. You'll run sessions that build skills and confidence, and work alongside the systems accountant to make our finance systems better, more integrated, and more effective. You'll collaborate with Unit4 specialists, our in-house IT colleagues, and Finance team members across the Society, managing your own priorities autonomously while being proactive in driving things forward.

You have a proven foundation in ERP environments and you're eager to develop your career. You're someone who thrives on solving problems, explaining complex matters clearly, and helping people feel confident using technology. You'll have:

- Experience working with an ERP system, with genuine curiosity to develop specialist knowledge (Unit4 experience is a bonus, but your appetite to learn matters most).
- Effective analytical and troubleshooting skills, paired with experience using reporting tools such as Power BI, Excel, or ERP-native reporting modules to surface insight from finance data.
- A track record of building relationships and delivering excellent service or partnership, with a focus on improving how people experience and understand systems.
- Demonstrated grounding in accounting or finance processes, ideally gained in a large organisation.
- Proven ability to create clear guides, resources or training content that makes technical topics accessible.
- Confidence working independently while also thriving in collaborative environments, taking initiative and seeing things through.

- Being the primary contact for Unit4 and system queries, efficiently resolving issues and knowing when to escalate more complex challenges.
- Growing into a trusted Unit4 specialist by continuously expanding your knowledge and actively helping colleagues across the Society.
- Producing clear, helpful guides, FAQs and training resources that give colleagues the confidence to use our systems effectively.
- Supporting reporting improvements by helping to build, refine and maintain reports and dashboards that give colleagues the insight they need, using tools such as Excel, Power BI and our ERPs reporting modules.
- Running engagement and training sessions that boost understanding, capability and compliance with our finance systems.
- Championing good practice and confidently challenging off-system workarounds so colleagues get the full benefit of the functionality available to them.
- Supporting the integrity of our finance data and system structure, including the chart of accounts, role permissions and change logs, under the direction of the systems accountant.
- Working with the Systems Accountant on upgrades, testing and integration projects to ensure everything runs smoothly.
- Partnering with Finance colleagues and IT teams to monitor how systems perform, address issues quickly, and strengthen our single source of financial truth.

This is a vital role for the Bikeability Trust in leading the management of over £78 million of Active Travel England grant funding to 2029 for the provisiion of Bikeability training and management of the grants programme. We are also launching a new fundraising and income generation strategy for the next three years. You will have significant experience of charity finance and reporting. An established leader with excellent financial acumen, you will have used these abilities to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, external stakeholders and networks.
