Black-and-Racialised groups face many challenges that inhibit their ability to thrive and deliver quality services that meet the needs of their users. We are seeking an experienced Deputy Finance Director who will play a pivotal role in establishing a Finance Centre of Excellence - providing infrastructural and financial management support to Black and Minoritised community-led organisations in 8 London boroughs. The Centre of Excellence will focus on increasing groups’ financial literacy, confidence, skills, resilience and will include:

• Bespoke financial management capacity-building support, including compliance with statutory/funder requirements; and support with operational/strategic management and planning resources.

• Support will also include financial health checks, finance strategy development, risk.

• Identification and management, budgeting, statutory/funder compliance training, employer responsibilities training, governance training, budget for funding bids, and annual report.

• Devote significant time to outward-facing activities dedicated to supporting frontline Black and racialised grassroots community groups.

• Development of online learning tools and platforms to cascade the learning and providing 1-to-1 coaching sessions for Senior managers and Trustees.

The Deputy Finance Director will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial officer and will also contribute to Ubele’s overall financial strategy and supporting financial operations within our central hub.

We are looking to recruit a Director of Finance and Resources to join our team based in London. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of circa £95,000 per annum.

The Role

NEF Summary:

At the National Energy Foundation, our team is forward thinking in its approach to home energy and uses its influence and projects to make meaningful change. Our primary focus is delivering projects aimed at alleviating fuel poverty and helping residents to feel warmer, healthier and more comfortable in their homes whilst also helping them cut the cost of their fuel bills. In the next five years, we will seek to help more than 170,000 households out of fuel poverty. Beyond this, we seek to encourage homeowners to make improvements to their homes to increase energy efficiency. To enable this, we deliver several projects aimed at encouraging retrofit of energy efficient heating systems into UK homes.

Job Role

The Head of Finance is responsible for ensuring that the finances of the Centre are managed efficiently and effectively to support the delivery of services in line with our clients ambitions.

Over the years the Centre has developed a highly diverse set of services and activities that support a broad range of community needs. These services are funded through a wide range of income sources and delivered in a complex set of arrangements and through many different partnerships.

The Head of Finance has centre-wide responsibilities and plays a key role in ensuring effective service delivery and sound financial management of the organisation as a whole.
This role needs to promote a positive culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity across the organisation and with external stakeholders and support the development of innovative, inspiring and viable service propositions.

As a member of the senior leadership team this role will play a key role in continuing to develop both the strategic direction and internal culture of the organisation, specifically driving forward our clients commitment to being a truly antiracist and inclusive organisation and creating space for honest conversations and feedback.

An Interim Director of Finance and Administration is sought to provide leadership and direction for the good financial management of the charity, working closely with other members of the Senior Leadership Team and colleagues to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organisation.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Accountancy qualification.
• Experience of financial administration in a company or charity, including bank reconciliation, the preparation of monthly management accounts, and preparation for audit.
• Leadership experience and ability to take a strategic view across all aspects of the charity’s work in terms of its financial efficiency, effectiveness, and viability.
• Experience of using the Xero software finance package.
• Experience of using computer databases.
