About the role:

The Treasurer works alongside fellow trustees and relevant staff to oversee Humanimal Trust’s financial strategy, planning and management. You will provide the Board with clear, comprehensive information to inform decisions, ensure financial systems and controls are sound, and advise on the financial implications of strategic and operational plans.

You’ll bring:

Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing the preparation of budgets, management accounts, financial statements and cashflow forecasts.
• Ensuring effective financial systems and controls are in place.
• Supporting compliance with relevant legislation and reporting requirements.
• Ensuring the Board understands and fulfils its financial responsibilities.
• Advising on financial risks and opportunities in relation to strategy and operations.
• Overseeing the preparation of the annual accounts and reports for submission to relevant authorities.

Role

Committee member, providing expert financial input to this Committee of the Board, alongside Trustees and other advisors.  The Committee is collectively responsible for reviewing in detail a wide range of matters relating to finance, legal compliance, audit and risk management before making recommendations to the Board of Trustees

Person

• Total alignment with goals, ethos and culture of CAFOD, including its Catholic values
• Qualified member of recognised accountancy body
• Demonstrable skills and experience in financial and corporate/ charity governance, commercial decision-making, budgeting and financial planning, internal and external statutory reporting, revenue and cost management, procurement, internal control, compliance, financial management and commercial or charity management generally

We are looking for a highly experienced finance leader to join the UK’s leading campaign for assisted dying law reform, as their Treasurer. This organisation campaigns for a change in the law so that terminally ill, mentally competent adults can have the choice of a safe, legal assisted death. This opportunity to join their board comes at a pivotal time for them, as the assisted dying Bill continues its journey to becoming law. 

Position: Treasurer 

Location: National 

Time commitment: 1-2 days per month

They are a not-for-profit limited company with a sister charity. Both organisations have a shared aim of improving dying in the UK by putting people in charge of decisions about the end of their life, but work towards their shared aim in different ways. They are legally separate organisations with separate boards and finances, however they share a CEO and some resources, such as an office and some staff. 

The ideal Treasurer candidate will bring experience within the healthcare or charity sector, with a passion for patient choice. We are looking for someone with accountancy qualifications (or demonstrable experience). Prior Board experience is not essential.

Board members are required to attend five meetings per year, most of which are virtual or hybrid, with an away day held in person.  In addition, the Treasurer chairs the Finance and Audit Sub Committee (FASC), which meets five times per year virtually. 

With the organisation likely to see huge cultural and legal shifts around end-of-life care and choice in the coming years, all Board members need to be innovative in their approach to help build sustainable funding stream. The Treasurer will in addition have the following responsibilities:

• Oversee the finance functions of the organisation and ensure they follow accepted accounting practice 

• Oversee the production of management accounts including annual budgets and quarterly forecasts 

• Assist the Chair and CEO in ensuring that the board fulfils its duties and responsibilities for proper financial governance by providing advice to the board and senior management team on the financial implications of strategic decisions 

• Chair the Finance and Audit Sub Committee  

• Liaise, alongside the staff finance team, with external auditors annually to facilitate the creation of annual accounts

The role

We are looking for a new Treasurer and Trustee to join our Council of Trustees. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified management accountant to lend financial expertise and strategic leadership to support the Trust’s governance and long-term impact.

Our Treasurer will work closely with the Finance Manager and Chief Executive Officer, providing financial insight, stewardship, and best-practice advice. As part of the Board of Trustees, you will help set the strategic direction for Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, championing our mission to create wildlife-rich places and wildlife-rich lives across the region.

Time commitment

The full Council meets five times a year, typically on weekday afternoons at the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust HQ.

Committees meet during office hours, usually at Trust HQ or online.

Trustees are expected to attend at least 75% of Council meetings, plus the Annual General Meeting, held at the start of Autumn.

Term of office

Trustees serve on a voluntary basis for an initial three-year period and may be reappointed for additional three-year terms (most trustees complete two terms). We provide a full induction plus ongoing training and personal development opportunities.

To apply for a Trustee position, you do not need to be a Member of the Trust at the time of application; however, it is expected you will become a member if selected.

Could you look after the finances for the local SSAFA service in your area? You don’t need a military background, just some basic I.T and finance skills. If so, this could be the role for you.

What is a Branch Treasurer?

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. These are divided into small local areas that we call divisions. Each branch has a treasurer overseeing the divisions that, in turn each have a treasurer of their own. This is a key role involving financial planning and financial administration.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles and fundraisers.

One of the key ways we help people is by tapping into various sources of funding on their behalf. Monitoring and reconciling this flow of funding into and out of SSAFA accounts is important to ensure clients receive timely support and we are able to account for all charitable funds in our care.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. This flexible role involves using our on-line financial management system and on-line bank accounts and so can be done when and where suits you best. You will need to attend a number of branch committee meetings each year.

What would you be doing?

· Maintaining and reconciling local bank accounts and recording transactions

· Supporting divisions to manage their local finances.

· Making and recording all authorised payments

· Preparing year end accounts and financial statements including arranging an independent review

· Working with the branch secretary, advise on a local fundraising programme to cover branch running costs.

· Identify and manage the return of any surplus monies from grants as appropriate.

· Providing reports to the branch committee and to SSAFA’s Central Office

· Maintaining accurate records using our on-line finance management system

· Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.

· Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

About the role

We are seeking two exceptional individuals to strengthen our governance structure at a time of significant opportunity and change.

• Trustee and Chair of Programmes & Partnerships Committee

This role combines membership of our Federation Board with chairing one of our key committees. The Programmes & Partnerships Committee oversees Groundwork UK’s work to increase our visibility and credibility, build national relationships with government, business and charitable funders, and manage programmes that add value to local delivery while directly supporting communities through grants.

This position requires someone who can navigate the complex dynamics of our federated structure while providing strategic oversight of our national income generation, communications and programme management activities.

• Co-opted Finance & Risk Committee Member

This specialised role focuses on the systems and processes that underpin everything we do at Groundwork UK.

We need someone who understands the strategic risks and opportunities associated with data utilisation, digital technology, AI and management information systems, particularly in the context of public sector transformation. This isn’t about developing systems, but about governing them effectively and helping us maximise benefits and minimise risks. The role may develop into full board membership should the individual also wish to join the Federation Board as a Trustee.

Who we are looking for

For the Trustee and Chair of Programmes & Partnerships Committee, we need someone with senior experience in voluntary sector fundraising, income generation, communications or campaigning. You will have worked at a strategic level in a charity or similar organisation, understanding the complexities of building relationships with diverse funders, from government departments to major foundations to corporate partners. Your experience might include developing or overseeing funding strategies, managing stakeholder relationships, overseeing communications campaigns, or leading programme development initiatives.

For the Co-opted Finance & Risk Committee Member position, we are looking for someone with experience of systems management in complex organisational environments, potentially in the public sector or with experience in organisations serving public purposes. You might be someone who has worked in transformation, IT management, service digitisation, AI or similar contexts where systems must serve both internal efficiency needs and external public access requirements.

You don’t need to be a technology specialist, but you should understand the governance challenges that arise. This includes cybersecurity risks, data protection obligations, business continuity planning, and the challenge of making informed decisions about technology investments.

Both roles require individuals who are invested in Groundwork’s mission of creating a fair and green future where people, places and nature thrive. You should be someone who can see the connections between social and environmental challenges and who believes in the power of community-led solutions.

• Time Commitment

Both roles operate on a quarterly meeting cycle, with board meetings and committee meetings alternating throughout the year. For the Trustee and Chair of Programmes & Partnerships Committee, this typically involves attending four Federation Board meetings and four committee meetings annually, plus preparation time and occasional ad hoc consultations. We estimate this at the equivalent of up to a day a month.

For the Co-opted Finance & Risk Committee Member position, the commitment would initially be lighter, focused on quarterly committee meetings with associated preparation. This could grow if you choose to take on board membership and attend the Federation Board meetings which are held quarterly.

What are Serving Community Teams?

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. SSAFA has developed Serving Community Teams for volunteers to support serving personnel their families in the UK and overseas.

A Serving Community Team is run by a small team of volunteers on or near a British Armed Forces base which provide emotional, practical and financial support to the serving community. Our volunteer Finance Coordinators are an integral part of the team. To enable volunteers to deliver their work in the community, the Finance Coordinator is the key to processing grants and volunteer expenses, as well as other tasks such as balancing the books.

Why we want you

There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. In many areas SSAFA has Serving Community Teams (SCTs) which offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team consists of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible. That’s where you come in; could you spare some time on a regular basis to ensure the SCT meets its financial obligations?

What you will be doing

• Reconciling the local SCT bank account and recording all transactions.
• Maintaining accurate records using SSAFA’s online financial management system.
• Working with the Chair around financial planning; advising on any financial implications of plans and overseeing the annual budget.
• Preparing year-end accounts, financial statements and contribute to the team’s Annual Return.
• Being an ambassador for SSAFA, building positive relationships with all stakeholders.

The College of Sexual and Reproductive Health (CoSRH) is seeking an experienced financial professional to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. This is an exceptional opportunity to provide strategic financial leadership and make a meaningful impact on sexual and reproductive health across the UK.

As Treasurer, you will chair our Finance, Risk and Investment Committee and play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial stability, sustainability and growth over the next three years.

We're looking for a qualified finance professional (ACA, CIMA or equivalent) with senior-level experience in audit, investment and strategic financial planning. You'll bring strong governance expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to guide an organisation through growth and change.

Purpose of the role:

The overall aim of the Trustee role is to provide strong leadership, direction and expertise to the governance of the CoSRH.

The Board of Trustees (‘the Board’) is the body with the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of the CoSRH and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.

The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by:

· Determining organisational strategy

· Determining organisational statutory policy

· Ensuring the organisation’s financial stability and sustainability, and agreeing the annual operational budget

· Appointing the Chief Executive (who is overseen by the Chair of the Board on behalf of the Board)

· Providing support and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive and their staff team

· Setting and monitoring procedures for assessing and managing risk

· Taking advice from members, Council, Committees and from specialist advisors

· Ensuring good communication between the Board, the Council and the membership, and providing feedback on Board decisions and discussions to these groups

· Monitoring strategy performance

· Representing the CoSRH externally where necessary

As a charity and company limited by guarantee, Board members are charity Trustees and company directors. They do not represent any group or organisation in this role and they must act in good faith and in the best interests of CoSRH and in accordance with the CoSRH Code of Conduct.

Treasurer

Chair the Finance, Risk and Investment Committee (FR&IC) and lead the committee as follows:

· To review progress of financial elements of the strategy and make recommendations thereon to the Board of Trustees.

· To review/consider the strategic plan in context of financial and budgetary impact.

· To review the annual budget along with any constituent elements including membership pricing and make recommendations to the trustees.

· To agree specific expenditure beyond that in the approved budget of up to £125k.

· To make a virement of budgets of up to £125k

· To keep under review through regular reports the delivery of approved capital projects both from the capital investment as well as the actual compared to the projected returns.

· Advise Remuneration Committee on the affordability of any changes to pay and or benefits.

· To review the CoSRH Board Assurance Framework including mitigations, consider the total risks being carried in light of the risk appetite and undertake regular reviews of the risks by rotation.

· To receive reports at each meeting on financial performance and report as required to the Trustees

· To review the draft annual accounts along with the audit report, ensure they are prepared in accordance with relevant accounting standards and Charity Commission guidance and recommend their approval to the Trustees

· To recommend appointment of CoSRH’s external auditors to Trustees and to keep under review the performance of the auditors.

· To review the external auditors’ planning document, their annual findings, report and recommend any required improvements to financial processes.

· To monitor and review the CoSRH’s pension schemes and make recommendations for change when appropriate.

· To review and approve new Business Cases and oversee delivery of benefits,

· To consider changes to the reserves policy and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.

· To keep under review CoSRH’s Investment Policy including compliance with the ethical investment policy and update as necessary.

· To agree and review the Trustee’s attitude to financial risk and the asset allocation strategy.

· To review at each meeting the performance of CoSRH’s portfolio of investments and to receive regular reports from the Investment Managers.

· To consider changes to investment strategy and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.

· To propose the appointment of external investment managers for CoSRH, if appropriate, and to manage their performance.

· To ensure that all transfers of investment funds between managers are properly authorised by the Board.

· To report to the Board of Trustees on the performance of the investments.

Main duties and responsibilities of a Trustee

Board members are required to: 

· Ensure that the highest standards of corporate governance are observed at all times

· Establish the overall strategic direction and governance of the CoSRH 

· Approve the budget and business plan for the CoSRH including the costs of Council and its committees

· Ensure the effective, efficient and appropriate use of resources available to the CoSRH

· Oversee the delivery of planned results by monitoring and reviewing performance against agreed strategic objectives and targets

· Ensure that the CoSRH operates within the limits of its objectives and authority

· Ensure that the CoSRH is accountable to key stakeholders within and outside the health sector

· Ensure that the CoSRH undertakes its work with due regard to equality and diversity issues

· Ensure that the CoSRH complies with all relevant legislative and administrative requirements including, but not limited to, company law, charity law, health and safety, data protection and equalities.

· Ensure that an effective risk management system is in place 

· Approve the annual budget 

Board members are expected to:

· Read all Board and Committee papers in advance of meetings

· Attend and make constructive contributions to Board and Committee meetings

· Provide specialist guidance on particular areas where they have expertise

· Commit to safeguarding the good name and values of the CoSRH 

· Be a champion and ambassador for the CoSRH 

· Abide by all relevant policies and procedures of the CoSRH 

· Agree and adhere to the CoSRH Board of Trustees Code of Conduct.

Person Specification

· A financial accountancy qualification or equivalent experience (eg ACA, CIMA)

· Experience of audit, investment, strategic planning and budgetary planning

We’re looking for a motivated finance professional to join our Trustee Board as Treasurer, provide us with financial strategic direction and help us maintain our long-term sustainability

Working closely with our Chair and Chief Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

• Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

• Guiding and advising the Board in the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements

• Chairing the Board’s Finance Sub-Committee

• Reviewing the quarterly and year end accounts produced by our Administrator

• Presenting the year end accounts at the Annual General Meeting

• Ensuring that proper financial procedures and controls are in place to safeguard the charity’s resources

• Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves and investment policies

You don’t need to have been a trustee before, but you’ll need to:

• have recognised professional financial qualifications or experience

• ideally, have some knowledge or experience of charity finances

• be familiar with Quickbooks accounting systems and spreadsheets

• have the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences

As a member of the board you will ultimately be responsible for the overall direction, vision and strategy of Law for Life. • Oversee the timely preparation of the annual budget and recommend its adoption to the Board

• Guide trustees in assessing the financial viability of plans, proposals, and feasibility studies

• Ensure financial resources meet both present and future needs

• Maintain a robust overview of financial risks facing the charity

• Oversee the production of financial reports, returns, accounts, and independent examinations
