About the Role

As part of our collaborative Finance Business Partnering team, you’ll support fundraising, communications, advocacy, and activism across Mencap. You’ll provide clear financial advice, insightful analysis, and strong financial management to ensure our fundraising income is used effectively to benefit people with learning disabilities.

Over the next five years Mencap have big ambitions to significantly grow our fundraising income and increase our influencing and campaigning impact to ensure people with a learning disability can live life to the full.

This role is a full time permanent position. There is flexibility around where the role is based. We have large offices in London and Peterborough and smaller offices located throughout the UK.

You will need to travel occasionally for meetings. However, this role will primarily be working remotely.

 

Key responsibilities include:

• Partnering with directorate teams to create robust budgets and forecasts, offering support and advice for realistic financial planning.
• Providing clear financial reports and analysis to help teams understand results, spot emerging issues, and make informed decisions.
• Supporting complex income forecasting (e.g. legacies), using scenario analysis to guide planning and assess risk.
• Delivering financial analysis and modelling to support investment decisions.
• Ensuring funding applications and management of restricted funds are accurate and compliant.
• Improving finance processes and reporting, including with our new Salesforce fundraising CRM system.
• Acting as key contact for external auditors and funders regarding fundraising financials.
• Ensuring accounting and financial compliance with Charity SORP and other relevant regulations.
• Managing and coaching an FBP team member, supporting their development.

 What You’ll Bring

• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
• Proven experience in finance business partnering, ideally within a charity or fundraising environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data.

We are recruiting Finance Business Partners to support research teams and collaborate closely with the central finance team. In this role, you will be part of a research centre, working with budget holders and research leads to provide an effective and efficient financial service. This role will see you as a key member of the Finance team, working closely with the Senior Finance Business Partner to deliver robust financially planning and advice to our Fundraising directorate, supporting budget holders, Heads of Departments and Directors across this area.

You will have similar experience in finance and management accounting obtained in a complex organisation, and knowledge of a variety of accounting systems and financial reporting approaches. Experience working within the sector advantageous, but not essential.

As an accountancy qualification isn’t an essential requirement for this role, we would be open to funding elements of a professional accountancy qualification, pending the completion of a probationary period.
You will be contracted to our London, Haig House, Hub with a minimum expectation of two days per week working in person at the Hub (one day must be a Tuesday) and flexibility for working remotely/at home when not on site.

Who are Spinal Research?

We are Spinal Research, the UK's leading medical charity focused on the repair and restoration of the spinal cord. Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. It can happen to anyone at any time, changing lives instantly. We fund groundbreaking research that will cure paralysis, ensuring people living with spinal cord injuries will get life-changing treatments.

The Role:

The Data Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end processing of all supporter and organisational data. This includes the set-up and management of systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity across multiple sources, and preparing information to support financial reporting. The role holder will also ensure the effective use of Salesforce CRM and other connected systems, while enabling teams across the organisation to use data to drive insight and impact.

This role will report into the Head of Operations and Strategy, providing guidance on data management, systems improvements and organisational effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

Data Management & Processing:

• Manage the end-to-end flow of supporter and organisational data across all systems.
• Collate data from multiple sources and prepare/upload into Salesforce CRM.
• Ensure data is reconciled with bank statements to guarantee completeness and accuracy.
• Carry out manual processing and preparation steps required for accountants and financial reporting.
• Maintain data quality and integrity across all systems and databases.

Systems & Integration:

• Oversee the access, security, and effective use of Salesforce CRM, payment platforms and third-party systems.
• Map and align data across platforms to ensure correct integration and reporting.
• Identify, resolve and prevent system or data flow errors.
• Support the Head of Operations and Strategy in implementing new systems or improvements.

Data Analysis & Insight:

• Provide accurate data analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
• Build dashboards and reports in Salesforce and other tools to support fundraising, research and operational teams.
• Identify trends, patterns and opportunities to increase organisational effectiveness.
• Act as the central point of expertise for data queries across the charity.

Team Support & Development:

• Support colleagues across teams to understand, use and manage their data effectively.
• Provide training and guidance on dashboards, reports, and data best practices.
• Share knowledge and recommend improvements in processes, data capture and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with data protection and GDPR in all areas of work (working alongside the Data Protection Officer).

Skill Set Requirements:

• Proven experience in data management, CRM administration or a related role.
• Strong knowledge of Salesforce CRM (or similar CRM systems), data processing and reporting.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to extract insights and translate them into actionable recommendations.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing complex datasets.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience in financial data reconciliation and reporting preparation is desirable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), SharePoint and other relevant tools.
• Knowledge of data protection and GDPR best practices.
• Ability to manage multiple systems, integrations and workflows simultaneously.
• A proactive and adaptable approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
