As the Director of Governance and Assurance, you will provide sector-leading company secretariat, governance, and assurance, ensuring the governance structure efficiently manages regulated activities and commercial group entities. The post-holder will also advise and support the Chief Executive, Chair, and SLT on all aspects of regulation, corporate governance, and effective business conduct for the organisation, ensuring the highest standards of probity and according to statutory and legislative requirements.
The Director of Governance and Assurance will oversee risk management and assurance functions, ensuring effective systems for internal controls and regulatory compliance, including internal audit management. They will provide administrative support for Board and Committee meetings, including agenda planning, minute taking, and record keeping.
This role is a key contact with the Regulator of Social Housing and other external government or regulatory organisations including CQC and Ofsted.
The Director of Governance and Assurance must embody a strategic and principled leadership style, ensuring the highest standards of governance, risk management and regulatory compliance. Key Tasks:
- Accurately manage petty cash and balance it to ensure clear record keeping
- Accurately input financial information onto Sage in order to enable clear financial reporting

The Willow Major Events Team hosts a range of events to engage Willow’s key supporters. These range in large-scale events such as the Willow Ball and London Football Awards, to smaller more intimate events such as Golf and Shoot Days.
Job purpose
- This role will support the delivery of Willow’s programme of Major Events, as well as supporting third party events, ensuring that these promote and present Willow in a professional and compelling manner, maximising opportunities for donor cultivation, fundraising and maximising income generation.

Key responsibilities
Core Events
- To support the events strategy through delivery of high-quality events, designed to attract current and new supporters.

Duties & responsibilities
People
- To work alongside and train Companions to increase their skill base and confidence
- To organise the deployment of tasks to individuals and team members
- To train, supervise, motivate, and inspire volunteers and companions.
- To help devise and deliver induction on standards of work to new team members so that retail activities are delivered to the agreed brand, including customer service, merchandising, pricing, stock control, and culture

Warehouse Operation
- To ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations by maximising quality donations and minimising waste

- To be proactive in the generation of donated stock, managing stock collection efficiently and effectively to the agreed standards and timescales under Emmaus guidelines

Stock Management

- To disseminate any changes from Trading Standards as and when to relevant parties to ensure compliance

Safety, Health, and Environment
- To oversee all Health & Safety requirements within the warehouse, taking corrective action as and when required, and informing/liaising with managers and team as necessary

- Ensure safe working systems are adhered to in conjunction with the Emmaus policies and procedures, and are compliant with all relevant legal requirements
- To ensure that Health & Safety is adhered to in terms of equipment use and that manual handling guidelines are followed

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. In 2024 we embarked on our new 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.
Our shops generate valuable income to support our services, create opportunities for homeless people to learn new skills and contribute to Crisis’ work in the community. They have a unique contemporary visual identity and are dynamic and creative places to work.

About the role
We are recruiting for an Assistant Shop Manager to join a busy and creative team in Hackney. You will join an exciting team and collaborate to build a group of volunteers from all walks of life, raising money to fund Crisis’ work ending homelessness. We are bold with a culture of continuous review and improvement, where we try new things, take risks, and sometimes fail. There will be numerous opportunities to improve our team’s effectiveness. Your voice will count!
We also work closely with local artists and universities. We’d love you to bring your own ideas, along with your experience of fashion, retail and current trends, to this role. You will have opportunities to build your own skills and career progression through training and development – many of our shop managers were promoted internally. You will be primarily based in the Hackney shop, but you may be required to travel to other shops within London 1 & 2 on a short-term basis.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have retail experience at a supervisory level alongside a genuine interest in charity retail. You will be keen to build your people management skills including working with Crisis members. We are particularly interested in meeting candidates with an interest or background in visual merchandising, although this is not essential. You will be committed to Crisis’s values and mission to end homelessness.
