The Director of Finance and Resources is responsible for managing the charity’s finances efficiently and accurately, ensuring that all financial activities are carried out in compliance with statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements. Playing a key role in strategic planning, including planning for future budgets and allocation of resources in collaboration with the CEO and Board, the Director of Finance & Resources also leads on HR and IT for the Trust and supports the implementation of good governance practices. The role oversees the production of monthly management accounts, line-managing the Finance Officer who takes care of day-to-day financial functions. You will provide financial recommendations to the Finance & Audit Committee (which meets quarterly), ensuring that the Trust’s financial practices adhere to statutory regulations and legislation. The Director of Finance & Resources also leads on the Trust’s annual audit and production of Annual accounts, filed with the Charity Commission. For this role you will need to have strong experience in finance, accounting or a related field, demonstrating excellent analytical skills and numerical proficiency alongside capability to think strategically and facility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Everyone associated with the Trust works remotely and has always done so. Our team, Board, volunteers and partners are UK-wide and so meetings and events are held regularly in London and across the country. You will report to the CEO and line manage the Finance Officer. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will regularly collaborate with our Board of trustees and, particularly, the Chair and members of the Finance & Audit Committee.

• Purchases and payments:

o Log purchase invoices into the finance system, check that documentation is complete and correct.

o Reconcile bank accounts for the main entity and subsidiaries.

Purpose of role

MAP is in a period of growth and rapid development, and as such, the incoming Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for the financial strategy and management of MAP and for the leadership of operational areas to help deliver the organisation’s mission and strategic goals. The COO provides support to the CEO in areas of governance, legal and risk management and may deputise for the CEO as required.

Strategy, vision and leadership

This is an exciting opportunity to join the finance team to help support in driving good management reporting and business partnering to ensure the accurate and reliable reporting and budgeting for Development, Membership, Marketing and Communications and Visitor Experience.

Key duties of the role are as follows:

To ensure effective financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and analysis for budget holders, senior management and external parties as required. Building excellent relationships with the Audience and Development teams, ensuring that:

• The Directors, Heads of Department and cost centre budget holders are supported and challenged on all financial issues, including reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and long-term financial planning
• There is effective and ongoing financial monitoring and control
• Budget variances, risks and opportunities are identified and flagged as part of the management accounts monthly reforecast process

To deliver monthly management accounting and other reporting for relevant cost centres, including:

• Meeting budget holders to discuss accuracy of the accounts, reasons for variances and required actions and updating forecasts as appropriate
• Prepare the relevant summary sections of the monthly management accounts and related KPIs
• Process accruals, deferrals, and other accounting adjustments, including at financial year end

About You

• You will be a part-qualified, finalist or fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent). Applicants who are qualified by experience are also encouraged to apply.
• You will have hands-on knowledge of supporting in the production of management accounts and experience of or the ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders to advise on budgets

About the Role

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for someone with strong finance and administrative skills. Working closely with the Finance Manager and Office Manager, you will support the organisation by:

· Processing donations, direct debits, Gift Aid claims, invoices and payment runs

About You

 

You will have at least three years’ experience in a finance and administrative role, with strong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, and experience with finance systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero are essential.

Ideally, you will have experience working in the charity or not-for-profit sector, and familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems like Raiser’s Edge would be an advantage. You should be comfortable working with people from diverse cultural and national backgrounds, and able to manage your workload effectively as part of a supportive team. A genuine interest in the work of USPG and alignment with our Christian ethos is essential for this role.

Job Summary
The Finance Business Partner in Volunteering is responsible for providing the first line of support and assistance with the development of financial plans, analysis of the financial performance and forecasts of the Adult Volunteering area, in order to provide high quality business insight to both support and influence strategic decision making by St John’s management teams. They will be a key member of the Financial Planning and Insight team to ensure delivery of the annual three-year budgeting process, that is aligned to strategic operational plans. This will require regularly meeting with relevant stakeholders to critically review and challenge reported performance against agreed plans. This role will not only look after the Adult Volunteering part of the organisation but support some other overheads/areas within the organisation.

About You
You are a fully qualified professional accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA). Ideally you have gained experience in the charity sector and large complex organisations. You can demonstrate previous experience in a finance business partner role with a track record of supporting the end-to-end processes for in-year forecasts and annual budgets and three-year plans that are aligned to business strategy. You have significant experience in managing the day-to-day, monthly and annual production of management accounting processes. To be successful you can demonstrate excellent skills in influencing with confidence and gravitas to respectfully challenge. You are naturally curious with a genuine interest in change and technology. You take personal ownership and possess a flexible 'can do' mind set and you are able to build and maintain effective networks both internally and externally.

About the Role

• Deliver high quality business and financial analysis, with detailed outcomes and benefits, to identify and present coherent rationales for change, to support continued coordinated, consistent and effective delivery of services across St John
• Provide impactful and effective finance business partnering to St John Budget Holders, the Senior Management and Executive Teams
• Work with the relevant stakeholders, to timetable in the production of the charity’s monthly management accounts and the annual budgeting and in-year forecasting process that is the aligned to business plans
• Drive continuous improvement in St John’s financial management reporting, forecasting and analysis
• Drive continuous customer experience improvement by simplifying and improving St John’s financial processes, to provide your collective internal and external customers, an efficient and effective finance experience
