First aid volunteer roles

As a health professional volunteer, you would support our First Aid teams with patients who need more complex assessment or treatment, prescription medications or admission to hospital. We would warmly welcome you into our clinical team, provide all your training, uniform and equipment and offer you a great chance to work as part of a friendly prehospital care team, with good clinical support from experienced colleagues. You would join our group of over 60 Sussex doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and paramedics who already give their time to volunteer with St John Ambulance. We have clinicians of all specialities in our teams, and are happy to provide clinical supervision for those in training grades. We understand how tiring your work shifts can be, and that your duty to your NHS patients will always come first, and we can offer you flexibility around volunteering shifts as well.

Successful candidates will be registered Paramedics with the HCPC and be able to provide evidence of CPD activity within the previous 12 months.

Are you a current Keele student looking to make a difference during your time at university? 

The Keele University Group is part of the Stoke and Keele Network, offering you the best of both worlds: student-led sessions on campus and access to a wide range of training and public event medical cover across the wider area. 

There will be a six-day Emergency Responder Course and associated e-learning to be completed for the role. 

There is a minimum requirement of 100 hours of volunteering per year. 

Keele students meet on Monday evenings (7 pm) during term time on the Keele Campus (Dorothy Hodgkin Building). You’re also welcome to join Wednesday sessions at our partner hub located in Stoke, or the Tuesday sessions run by our neighbouring network at either Hanley or Cheadle. 

You must be able to complete a minimum of 100 clinical volunteering hours each year at events to keep your skills up to date. 

This vacancy is also open to prospective volunteers looking to join the North Staffordshire Network. We have meetings on Tuesday evening from 7:30 pm at the following locations:

Candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview at Wharf Street in Wolverhampton where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the role as well as opportunities within St John Ambulance. If successful you will also required to complete relevant role training which includes both in person practical (4 days) and mandatory online eLearning.

There will be quarterly welcome events taking place at Wharf Street Wolverhampton where the successful candidates will meet the leaders for the Wolverhampton Networks. During the induction they will learn more about the organisation, how to access resources and select their preferred network to join - this will be predominantly based on the meeting night of the network. Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people?

We are offering 6 young people aged 18-25 the opportunity to volunteer with the Portuguese Red Cross in Cucujães, which serves the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis. Planned placement dates are: 26th February - 27th May 2026 and 1st June - 7th August 2026.

The Red Cross offers support to the local community in three main areas: Social Assistance and access to Welfare Services, Emergency Response & First Aid and Youth Engagement. Projects include: social assistance and counselling, food bank and food relief, activities for people with disabilities, first aid education, environmental education, activities focused on prevention for at risk youth, intergenerational and community workshops.

The successful volunteer will stay in a shared apartment (with other international volunteers) in a shared bedroom, located in Oliveira de Azeméis and carry out volunteering activities in two different locations (at Local Partner Institution: Centro de Apoio Familiar Pinto Carvalho (Oliveira de Azeméis) and at the Local Branch of the Portuguese Red Cross (Vila de Cucujães).

We would expect volunteers to do no more than 36 hours per week, within a rotating volunteer schedule, which will include two consecutive days per week away from the project.

These are fully funded placements, with return flights, accommodation and health insurance covered - volunteers receive a small monthly stipend for living expenses.

Organisation: Support U is a leading LGBTQIA+ resource and support service based in the Thames Valley area. 

Location: Bracknell / Reading 

Commitment: 2–3 hours per week (either a weekday evening or weekend morning) either weekly, or bi-weekly. 

Overview: 

“Research commissioned by Stonewall shows that too many LGBTQ+ people still don’t feel welcome playing or watching sport”. We aim to change this, which is why we are launching an LGBTQ+ football club in Bracknell and/or Reading to give people the opportunity to participate in team sports in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteer coaches to help us deliver fun, accessible, and inclusive football sessions for the local LGBTQ+ community. 

This role is perfect for someone passionate about football and physical exercise, community sport, and creating safe spaces for people who may otherwise find traditional team sports intimidating. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Planning and delivering weekly football sessions (e.g. training drills, friendly games). 

• Ensuring sessions are safe, inclusive and welcoming to players of all abilities. 

• Encouraging participation, teamwork and building confidence. 

• Supporting the club’s growth — from small sessions to potentially multiple teams or leagues with other clubs / charities. 

• Rotating coaching duties with other volunteer coaches (approximately 2 sessions per month each, with potential for more if required). 

• Acting as a positive role model, upholding the values of Support U and the club. 

Who We’re Looking For 

• Desirable: Previous training certification in FA First Aid, FA Level 1, Diversity & Inclusion (or similar). 

• Someone passionate about football and community sport and who is part of, or an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. 

• Previous coaching or other relevant experience (formal qualifications are desirable but not essential). 

• Strong communication and motivational skills, always using positive and inclusive language. 

• Ability to create a positive, safe and supportive environment. 

• Reliable and able to commit to a long-term volunteering position, 2–3 hours weekly/bi-weekly on weekday evenings. 

Compliance & Requirements 

• Enhanced DBS check (organised by Support U). 

• Agreement to the Support U Volunteer Code of Conduct. 

• First Aid training (or willingness to undertake training provided). 

• Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete training provided).
