First aid volunteer roles

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. Interviews & Welcome events will be either conducted face to face at Hawley Lane Unit or via Teams with dates tbc with applicants.

You will need to attend 2 meetings nights minimum per month at either Cannock or Rugeley groups within Chase Network.

We are looking to run a volunteering selection session on: 20th September 2025 10:30AM till 16:30 (approx)

National Clinical Officer (Paramedicine & AHPs)

Volunteer Role | Approx. 25 hours per month | 2 posts available
Location: 1 x South Wales | 1 x North Wales
(While each role will focus mainly on its base area, there is an expectation of providing support across all of Wales when required.)

About the Role

We’re looking for two National Clinical Officers (Paramedicine & AHPs) to join our National Clinical Team.
These key volunteer leadership roles will provide strategic clinical leadership, management, and expert advice to ensure our clinical services remain safe, compliant, and of the highest quality.

Working closely with the National Clinical Lead (Paramedicine & AHPs) and the wider National Clinical Team, you’ll help shape the direction of Paramedicine and Allied Health Professional practice across St John Ambulance Cymru.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead on the development and implementation of national clinical strategies.

• Support the recruitment, development, and engagement of Paramedics, Associate Ambulance Practitioners, and AHPs within the organisation.

• Provide expert advice on clinical governance, regulatory standards, and medicines management.

• Collaborate with colleagues across Wales to share best practice and deliver quality improvement initiatives.

• Represent St John Ambulance Cymru on relevant committees, forums, and professional networks.

• Support and mentor volunteers and healthcare professionals to maintain excellence in practice.

About You

You'll be registrated on the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) with at least three years’ clinical experience. You bring energy, integrity, and strong leadership skills, and you’re comfortable influencing and collaborating at all levels.

You understand the opportunities and challenges of working within a volunteer-led organisation, and you’re committed to upholding our core values: Compassion, Quality, Inclusion, and Integrity.

Essential Requirements:

• HCPC registration

• Enhanced DBS clearance

• Valid First Aid and Group B Safeguarding qualifications - gaining this can be supported 

• Level 3 Safeguarding Adults & Children

• Minimum three years’ clinical experience

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills

Commitment

Approx. 25 hours per month
Initial three-year term, with the option to extend for a further three years.
Mentorship, training, and ongoing professional support are provided.

We are seeking Event Paramedics to respond to and manage emergency calls/incidents whilst attending events. At all times provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care to undertake clinical assessment and interventions those individuals in the pre-hospital environment, which may include stadia, concerts, motorsports, road races etc. This may encompass working on both ambulances / FRV’s and within treatment units as required.

Successful candidates will be registered Paramedics with the HCPC and be able to provide evidence of CPD activity within the previous 12 months.

You would join our group of over 60 Sussex doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and paramedics who already give their time to volunteer with St John Ambulance. We have clinicians of all specialities in our teams, and are happy to provide clinical supervision for those in training grades. We understand how tiring your work shifts can be, and that your duty to your NHS patients will always come first, and we can offer you flexibility around volunteering shifts as well as paid travel to, and accommodation at, events

 Successful candidates will be registered medical practitioners with the GMC, without cautions or restrictions, and hold a licence to practice outside of an approved practice setting.

We are looking for people with excellent interpersonal skills to join our Safeguarding team. Safeguarding is central to the work of St John Ambulance because it ensures that the diverse range of services we provide to children and adults at risk of harm, are delivered safely. Safeguarding Team Members do this in a number of ways e.g. by monitoring the implementation of the safeguarding policy, by responding to questions regarding and giving guidance etc.

 Learning is at the heart of St John Ambulance and we offer a very large range of learning and developmental opportunities to our volunteers, including the full professional training that is essential for our Safeguarding Team Members:
