We need dedicated volunteers to work at our Tooting store. If you have a passion for fashion (especially second-hand), amazing customer service skills and you are keen to learn new skills, then this opportunity is for you. As a volunteer you will also be involved in receiving, sorting, steaming, and pricing our lovely donations, serving at the till, and using your creativity to create displays around the shop. Training will be provided. As a volunteer, you will be helping to raise money for the Octavia Foundation and support the work we do in the local community.

Training You Will Receive

All volunteers are required to keep their mandatory training up to date to

Tasks are incredibly varied but all require a commitment to the Hospice values.  The main roles with training given, are:

Food Service Volunteers

Enthusiastic, hands-on volunteers needed to help provide food to the community. A key role, you will work at the main hub of the food bank and help the food service run as smoothly as possible. An exciting opportunity to make a real, immediate impact to those in need of support. 

Hours: Thursdays, a range of shifts from 9:30am - 6pm

Book shifts to suit your own schedule! No requirement to sign up for the same shift each Thursday or to volunteer consecutive weeks.

About Bounds Green Food Bank: 

Open since June 2020, we serve over 1,500 children and adults in the community. We are committed to improving lives by providing food and essential household items to build a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow. We strive to promote social inclusion by supporting people who find themselves in a crisis situation where they need assistance to feed themselves and their families.

Person specification: 

• Aged 18 or above

• Have a basic understanding of spoken English

• Available on Thursdays 

• Able to travel at your own expense (no parking is available)

• Patient and flexible - you will help on different sections on each shift and may need to switch during shifts too

• A team player - the food bank is run completely by volunteers, so we require enthusiasm and cooperation

• Willing to attend training - The Orientation Tour is required before you join us, but other training may be offered.

• Understands and is sensitive to the challenges and difficulties faced by guests accessing the food bank e.g. food and fuel poverty, feelings of shame and embarrassment, language barriers.

The role: 

• Take in deliveries and count stock at the start and end of the day (depending on your shift time)

• Help with setting up the food service, including getting food out of storage and onto the service tables, decanting and repacking items and replenishing goods when needed. 

• Warmly welcome guests, serving them the number of items advised by Section Leads and Food Service Coordinators during each shift. 

• Follow food bank policies including Health and Safety procedures e.g. wearing gloves when handling fresh food and lifting boxes safely. 

• Keep the hall safe throughout the food service e.g. tidying away boxes and keeping walkways clear.

ENGINEERS/MAKERS

Across the UK, our 60+ local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

Our Engineer/Maker volunteers are at the very heart of what our local branches do. They use their practical skills and creativity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals with specific needs

• Using your practical skills working with metal, wood, plastic, or electronics (or a combination of them)

• Attending a monthly meeting of the local branch.

Where will I volunteer?

This role is largely home based, but will generally also involve visiting clients out in the community. Your local branches hold in-person meetings once a month or so.

Time commitment

This varies quite a lot depending on which cases come in, how complex they are and whether they fit your skills and experience, but it’s essentially a flexible role and there are no set hours.

Richmond Carers Centre, a network partner of Carers Trust, is a registered charity providing information, support, advice and a voice for carers living and caring in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The Carers Trust conducted an Adult Carer Survey Report 2023 that quoted “Unpaid carers are not unsung heroes. We are forgotten, neglected and burnt out”. Our services are vital in being able to support them with a range of services to improve their wellbeing and to give them a voice. Carers UK research in 2022 estimates the number of unpaid carers could be as high as 10.6 million within the UK. Richmond Carers Centre currently has 2720 registered carers as of May 2026. This comprises of 2134 adult carers and 586 young carers.

Helping Carers to Live Well is our organisational aim. We are looking for someone that would like to volunteer their time to help us to provide a coordinated approach in supporting unpaid adult carers in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

As a Volunteer, you will be part of a small, dedicated team that provides a range of services to adult carers. The focus of this volunteer role is to support in the delivery of the activity and leisure break programme. Using a welcoming approach, you will lead and support in activities and events that give carers the opportunity to socialise with others carers and have respite from their caring role. Help Missing People provide vital support through digital channels – and make a difference from home. 

Every year, thousands of people across the UK experience the trauma and uncertainty of disappearance – whether they are missing themselves or have a missing loved one. Missing People’s award-winning helpline is there in those moments: providing vital support and working to ensure no one has to face this crisis alone. With new funding, we’re expanding our digital services — offering support not only through online chat and text, but also via WhatsApp. 

To make this possible, we’re recruiting Text and Chat Volunteers who can provide compassionate, safe, and reliable support remotely. By joining us, you’ll help more children, young people, and adults at risk – while volunteering in a flexible way that fits around your life. 

�� What you’ll be doing 

Using Missing People’s secure digital platforms (chat, text, and WhatsApp) you’ll provide sensitive, empathetic support to those who reach out. 

• Communicate compassionately with children, young people, and adults in crisis. 

• Explore and understand their situations, helping them access the right support. 

• Hear from young people running away, missing adults, and people who feel stuck and need guidance. 

• Support people who are worried about a missing person – such as family members. Provide them with advice to how to report someone missing and what to expect. 

• With the guidance of an experienced staff supervisor, help individuals reconnect safely with families and support networks. 

• Be a calm, reassuring presence – often at a critical moment in someone’s life. 

�� Qualities and skills we’re looking for 

No prior experience is required – we’ll provide full training. We are looking for someone who is: 

• A strong communicator (via text and chat) who is empathetic, patient, and non-judgemental. 

• Passionate about supporting vulnerable people. 

• Confident using computers, digital platforms such as Microsoft Office, email, and instant messaging (you’ll need your own PC or laptop and Wi-Fi capable of running our systems).

• Able to volunteer from a quiet, private space at home 

• Willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide references. 

We want our volunteers to reflect the diversity of the communities we support. We actively encourage applications from people whose identities or lived experiences are under‑represented in the charity sector — including people from global majority backgrounds, working‑class or low‑income backgrounds, men, LGBTQ+ people, Disabled people, and those with lived experience of missing or exploitation. 

�� What you’ll gain 

Volunteering with Missing People is a chance to grow, connect, and make a lasting impact. 

• Comprehensive training: A 6‑week online programme with 2 hours of self‑paced learning and a 2‑hour live session each week with fellow volunteers and helpline staff, followed by a shadowing and induction period. 

Training times: You will need to attend either six Wednesday evening sessions or six Saturday morning sessions. Please ensure you can commit to the relevant dates before applying, as completing these sessions is essential for progressing through the training. 

Wednesday sessions (6pm–8pm): 2nd Sep, 9th Sep, 16th Sep, 23rd Sep, 30th Sep, 7th Oct

Saturday sessions (10.30am–12:30pm): 5th Sep, 12th Sep, 19th Sep, 26th Sep, 2nd Oct, 10th Oct 

• Ongoing support: Guidance from our Helpline Coordinators and Supervisors, plus regular supervision and peer support. 

• Community: Become part of a passionate team of volunteers and staff, united by the goal of bringing missing people back to safety. 

• Recognition: After 6 months of service, you’ll be eligible for a formal reference to support your future opportunities. 

�� Location and availability 

• This role is fully home-based. 

• Shifts will be 7 days a week, afternoons (2.30pm-6pm) and evenings (6pm-10pm) – we ask for a commitment of 1 shift per week 

• There will also be a monthly group supervision call you will be expected to attend.

• Minimum commitment: 6 months+.

• Xero account reconciliation and financial reporting
• Reviewing and updating previous tax filings
• Exploring whether we overpaid corporation tax and assisting with refiling if applicable
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes (including for grant-funded work)
• Helping us create simple reporting structures as we grow
• Advising on sustainable financial planning for our subscriptions, school sales, and workshops

Ideal for someone who is:

• A qualified or part-qualified accountant
• Familiar with Xero
• Interested in social impact, youth development, or creative education
• Happy to collaborate with a small but driven team
