Role and Responsibilities
We are looking to recruit a law graduate (1-3 years post-graduation) with experience in environmental law, economic justice and/or international development to join our small but dynamic team. Depending on experience, the role will support our programmes challenging economic injustice caused by environmental damage, biodiversity loss, deforestation, illegal resource trafficking, climate change and conflicts over natural resources; promoting transparency and accountability in public and private institutions to encourage responsibility and minimise the impacts of corruption; and promoting fairer and more effective economic and fiscal policy tools to help states meet development goals and enhance the rule of law. A more detailed explanation of our work is set out in our 2024-2026 Strategy.
Working as part of a small, busy team, you will have the opportunity to learn at very close hand what it means to work for an international NGO focusing on achieving environmental and economic justice. You will develop projects with a range of partners, including international agencies, NGOs and CSOs, and governments and government bodies. You will collaborate with a range of volunteer lawyers (law firms and barristers chambers) who are leading experts in their field. The role will also involve project management, assistance with fundraising, fulfilling compliance obligations, and evaluating and learning from projects.
Key Competencies:
• Relevant experience and knowledge (either from previous work experience or study) relating to environmental law and policy and/or economic justice in an international development context;
• A law graduate with a good understanding of how law is useful to achieving reform on the above;
• Demonstrable understanding (either from previous work experience or study) of key issues in sustainable international development, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals;
• Experience in developing countries and transitional economies;
• Ability to develop and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders, including donors, NGOs, civil society organisations and government representatives, on an international basis;
• Familiarity with, or understanding and enthusiasm for the concept and practice of, pro bono legal assistance;
• Demonstrable project management skills and experience, including administration and coordination;
• Ability to work on a wide range of tasks simultaneously;
• Excellent research skills to effectively convey research findings;
• Comfortable working independently and proactively and as part of a small team with a busy caseload;
• Strong interpersonal and team working skills;
• Some experience or demonstrable ability in donor management, including managing existing relationships, meeting donor reporting requirements and in raising funds for future projects and activities (desirable);
• Working knowledge of another language used in Sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America such as French, Portuguese, Kiswahili or Spanish (desirable).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the Senior Legal Managers and/or Legal Manager to deliver and implement the programme strategy, in conjunction with the Executive Director, partners, staff and Board;
2. Assist in developing an understanding of the most effective policy tools and legal interventions to deliver the programme objectives, through engagement with volunteer lawyers, ILP partners, staff, Board and others;
3. Support the building and maintenance of ILP’s programme(s). This includes:
• Liaising with partners to identify legal/policy needs and offer potential legal and/or policy reform solutions, including through conducting legal analysis;
• Assisting the programme lead(s) to build a pipeline of relevant projects and cases, including through engaging in outreach to potential pro bono partners;
• Supporting programme staff to network and build relationships with volunteer lawyers who have relevant technical expertise;
• Mapping and developing relationships with regional and international development entities and other technical assistance providers to identify potential partners, needs and focus countries;
• Representing the programme(s) in external fora and events;
4. Assist with ensuring effective project delivery and evaluation of impact including:
• Coordinating project implementation through the full project cycle;
• Supporting the preparation of financial and narrative reports for donors;
• Maintaining strong programme management and knowledge management systems and processes;
5. Support fundraising activities to support both the programme(s) and organisational overheads, including exploring opportunities for potential funding and assisting with funding applications;
6. Share in the necessary operational activities of the organisation. This includes some administration and contributions to website and social media communications.
Key details about the position:
• Location:Flexible for the right candidate including those outside the UK. Office premises are located in central London, with hybrid working (approx. 2 days per week in the office) if London-based.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy and programme development (50%)
- In consultation with Director of Mass Markets, UK, lead on the development, implementation and monitoring of the UK Acquisition strategy and operational plan
· Maintain and develop a monitoring and reporting framework for acquisition activity and associated KPIs that show the performance of the acquisition strategy
- Oversee donor acquisition and revenue activities across cash, regular giving, lead gen, lottery and the mid-level portfolio
· Deliver emergency appeals both as IRC and as a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, review and develop processes and collaborate with other departments and the DEC to ensure speed to market and maximum net revenue during activation
· Continuously assess and improve our core business and work to diversify our channel and product mix, alongside exploration of audience profiles that enable us to reach new segments of the UK public with meaningful propositions and messaging

Budgeting and planning (20%)
· Oversee the acquisition planning and budgeting process, ensuring all activity and project work is aligned with UK Mass Markets strategic objectives, is created in conjunction with Retention priorities and is balanced against team and organisational resources
· Propose investment / disinvestment where appropriate, and advise the Director of Mass Markets UK on additional long-term and short-term investment opportunities
· Balance in-year net income opportunities against multi-year investments, ensuring plans balance new donor targets with revenue generation
· Monitor the effectiveness of activities on an ongoing basis and take contingency action as appropriate to achieve monthly net income targets and return on investment
· Oversee income and expenditure tracking and manage the reconciliation and monthly variance reporting, providing commentary to the Director, Mass Markets and FP&A colleagues on a regular basis
Leadership and management (10%)
· Lead and develop the Acquisition team, ensuring performance objectives are managed throughout the year and opportunities for development and progression are identified and prioritised
· Be an active part of the UK Mass Markets management team, modelling leadership behaviours and supporting the Director, Mass Markets UK in developing a team culture of high performance, continuous improvement and constructive feedback
· Deputise for the Director, Mass Markets UK as and when required

Insight, analysis and data management (10%)
· Ensure all activity and budgetary decision making is insight driven
· Oversee detailed end of campaign reports to ensure all relevant information is documented and used to inform future activity
· Work closely with the data teams and external agencies and services in order to gain a detailed understanding of IRC supporters, both behaviourally and attitudinally, and use this insight to inform targeting and marketing activity
· Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current GDPR legislation and ensure all acquisition activity is compliant

- Keep up to date with the sector developments and benchmarking in individual giving and digital fundraising to ensure IRC is at the forefront of fundraising developments.

· Comprehensive understanding and experience of audience segmentation, analytical modelling such as LTV and use of insights to drive strategy and performance
· Commercial mindset, with the ability to set and evaluate short and long-term strategic objectives and pivot based on results

Philanthropy Manager

About the role:
We are looking to appoint an experienced Philanthropy Manager to proactively lead the cultivation and stewardship of potential and existing major donors, trusts and statutory bodies, with a particular focus on driving significant income growth.
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Engagement, the Philanthropy Manager will drive the growth of a portfolio of existing supporters and new prospects giving at the five and six figure gift level, with a particular focus on generating major gifts from new donors. The postholder will think strategically to develop inspiring fundraising cases of support, and impact reporting working closely with Care service colleagues, the finance team and the wider fundraising and engagement team.
This role has line management responsibility for three experienced fundraisers who manage their own portfolios of Major Donors, Trusts, and Foundations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Oversee, convene and deliver TAC programmes, developing live and digital content in line with our strategic priorities.
- Fulfil the leadership role of contributing to the development of The Africa Centre’s emerging strategy.

About the Role:

The RWA currently has 11 staff, based in 6 countries, and we have plans to build the team to around 18-20 over the next couple of years, to extend our delivery from 2 countries (currently Nigeria and Bangladesh) to 6, and to secure additional financing to complement the investment we have secured from the UK Government.
This is an exciting time to join the RWA as we move from our early inception phase to implementation and delivery. - Business planning: lead work on annual business planning and the development of a 5 year plan, bringing in others in the team and externally to support this work and ensure buy-in. - Financial oversight: manage financial activities to ensure the strong performance of the RWA, including regular financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. They will support the CEO and others on fundraising, and will advise teams (including those in country) on budget availability to inform activities. - Transition to independence: work with the CEO on plans for the RWA's independence from WaterAid, setting out and analysing options and making recommendations on structure, policies, governance, financing and timing, and overseeing the smooth transition from incubation within WaterAid to RWA being an independent not-for-profit organisation. The Director will need to consider legal, financial, governance, reputational, HR and other elements, seeking relevant external advice to ensure that the transition works for both the RWA and WaterAid. They will also advise on the creation of a Board and Advisory panel, and other relevant structures and relationships.
- Programme and project management: build out programme and project management for the RWA at both a global and country level, including internal reporting, updates and management of team's resources, and risks. Provide frameworks for effective decision-making and information management - including stakeholder databases; monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL); and knowledge management.
- Operational delivery: the Director will oversee the day-to-day internal operational activity of the RWA, and will need to deputise for the CEO in internal and external meetings. In Ukraine, HALO is the largest demining organisation, having operated in the Donbas since 2016. Russia’s invasion has resulted in mine laying and explosive contamination on a scale not seen in Europe since the Second World War, including across vast tracts of farmland. This prevents agricultural production, which is critical to Ukraine’s economy and global food security. Across seven regions, more than 1,000 local Ukrainian staff have already enabled the removal of more than 19,000 explosive items and the clearance of more 3.1 million m2 of land- bringing safety to communities and supporting Ukraine’s economic recovery.
True peace cannot come until land is safe. HALO’s work to clear the deadly debris of war is the first step towards recovery and reconstruction. And the return of hope.
About the role:
The HALO Trust has more than doubled in size over the last eight years by growing support from both Governments and philanthropic donors. Global income from philanthropic donors (including the US) has significantly increased over the past five years – from circa £4 million to £15 million in 2022/23 and reaching a further peak of £44 million in 2023/24 in response to exceptional donor support for Ukraine. Unpinning this is growth in six and seven figure partnerships with major donors, corporates and foundations, initiated by our exceptionally well-connected network of trustees and ambassadors - and nurtured by our committed and professional global philanthropy team.
The team has a global remit and this, together with HALO’s extensive geographic footprint, creates significant opportunities for growth in our portfolio of partnerships.
By nurturing and growing high value partnerships this role plays a key role in supporting the delivery of HALO’s life-saving work around the world.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead growth within a portfolio of high value (six and potentially seven figure) relationships by providing excellence in supporter stewardship and through the development and delivery of relationship strategies, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Head of Global Grant Partnerships
- Support senior HALO staff, advocates and trustees to engage and inspire individuals linked to agreed relationships
- Work with international programme teams to ensure the development of high-quality proposals and reports to tight deadlines
- Contribute to departmental strategic priorities including supporting the stewardship of other major relationships, follow up of new opportunities, and the development of philanthropic products for wider use. Deputise for the Head of Global Grant Partnerships where required
- Manage donor records and correspondence in Salesforce
- Work closely with Philanthropy and Partnerships (Gov funding) colleagues in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East and overseas programs as part of a distributed team to provide support to global fundraising efforts
Essential Requirements:
- Three years' experience of personally leading successful relationships with high value philanthropic donors (Trust and Foundations, corporates or high net worth individuals or equivalent), including those giving at the six or seven figure level
- Experience of building effective relationships with advocates linked to philanthropic donors
- An excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues in different cultural environments
- Outstanding written skills with the ability to work with programme and finance colleagues to design robust project proposals, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation
- Confident in working with financial information including project budgets
- Excellent written and verbal skills with strong attention to detail
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication and gravitas
- Experience of working with a fundraising database to maximise relationship development
- A commitment to HALO’s mission and objectives
- Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate HALO’s various programmes and strategies in a compelling way
- Tenacious, self-starting, and able to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial context
- Collaborative, team player, with a low-ego and a positive and upbeat approach.
Desirable:
- Experience of high value fundraising in the following areas is desirable: humanitarian and international development, mine action, conflict, the environment / conservation
- Experience of pipeline and relationship development in international markets for example Europe/US and/or the Middle East.

Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change. We are now looking for a Climate Economics & Diplomacy Senior Director to expand our work on a climate just economy.
What’s the role?
Economics is the study of the distribution of finite resources across our planet. And yet the profession often seems to forget that resources really are finite, and that distribution must be equitable. The number one argument we hear against most climate measures is economic: what about growth? What about jobs? What’s the business case? Opportunity Green’s Senior Director will develop our narrative to ward off these questions but more fundamentally, bring economics systems change – and how to influence policymakers to incorporate this change into their thinking - to the forefront of all our work. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for any economist who believes that the climate movement needs more economic expertise and can bring ideas on how to embed the necessary change in economic thinking to climate policy. You will be OG’s first economist hire (other than the CEO) and you will have the opportunity to shape our economics strategy.
Initially you will work with our established international shipping policy team, working to ensure that the shipping sector which is historically undertaxed, begins to contribute in financial terms to climate vulnerable countries. Meanwhile, many large shipping companies have large revenue which goes to shareholders in the global north. One of your first projects could be to assess the current geographical imbalance of financial flows from the shipping industry, and work alongside our international shipping team to reimagine the economics of the shipping sector to meet our climate goals.
A very similar argument can be made on the aviation side. The EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) currently only covers intra-EU flights but soon a discussion will be had on whether that should also cover international flights. Opportunity Green believes the EU ETS should cover international flights and that, very importantly, some of the ETS revenue must go to support the climate vulnerable. We are looking for someone who can support both these goals but more fundamentally, raise the profile of both sectors as potential sources of climate finance in broader international climate finance discussions.
However, we recognise that agreeing to raise revenue from aviation and shipping sectors is only the first step. The next step will be to ensure that those revenues actually reach climate vulnerable communities. The Senior Director will work with the international shipping team to expand OG’s policy on the distribution of revenues, with the explicit goal of maximising their support for climate vulnerable communities. You will follow international climate finance discussions and strategically intervene for OG when our goals can be supported.
Initially you will report to the CEO, while the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer is on parental leave. You will manage a team of three, with one direct line report initially, who are already well established in supporting climate vulnerable countries in the International Maritime Organization.

- Experience working with policymakers to improve and drive ambition
- Experience of generating ideas to drive economics systems change and crafting an easily understandable narrative that can be communicated to policymakers around that change
- Ability to get to grips with technological and policy detail around aviation, shipping, buildings, steel and agriculture as necessary and to know when that detail is needed in policymaker meetings
- Experience of leading a team and working with staff to inspire the greatest possible impact, including remote staff
- Ability to clearly articulate a theory of change and direct a team to articulate that theory of change
- Active listening skills, negotiation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
- An engaging public speaker
- Ability to think critically, independently and creatively
- Effective at building relationships at all levels of the organisation
- Experience of philanthropy and fundraising for an NGO

The successful candidate will be offered an annual salary of £80,000 plus 10% employer-contributed pension. Please note that OG has fixed salary scales, with the possibility of step increases with strong performance. When hiring we always hire at the bottom of a band and do not enter negotiations with new employees as negotiations have been historically shown to disadvantage women and minorities.
