About Us

Safer Waves was set up in 2019 to provide support to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment or gender discrimination on board.

Safer Waves provides an anonymous email support service, run by volunteers who are trained in responding to disclosures of sexual violence, and who understand the specific challenges experienced when these events happen onboard a vessel.

We work with shipping companies, industry leaders, law enforcement and maritime training providers to raise awareness of sexual violence within the maritime industry, and to improve the support that is available to seafarers who experience it.

Job Purpose

For the first 5 years, Safer Waves has been a volunteer-led organisation. We are now in the exciting position of being able to recruit a CEO, and we are looking for an individual who has the passion to see this new organisation thrive in the maritime welfare sector.

As the head of a small and rapidly developing organisation, the CEO role will be extremely varied, with the opportunity to shape the organisational structure as needed. The CEO will work closely with the trustee board and Operations Manager to deliver the strategy, improve sustainability and financial resilience, manage risk and deliver high-quality services to our beneficiaries.

We are a growing organisation, and this is a unique opportunity to grow and innovate with the organisation and to contribute to our future success. Applicants will need to be prepared to take on a wide range of tasks at the outset including compliance, accounting, training, public speaking, banking, leading volunteers, engaging with external partners and funders, overseeing the website and email service and many other tasks.
 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities 

The CEO reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

• Strategy: Shape and deliver the charity's strategy over the next five years, whilst also ensuring the day-to-day running of the charity remains effective.

• Finance: Maintain and develop relationships with funders, and find new funding streams for the charity. Prepare budgets and control spending accordingly.

• Risk management and compliance: Work with the trustees to ensure strong governance, including effective management of risks and compliance with current legislation.

• Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with international organisations including charities, shipping companies, law enforcement and government agencies among others.

• Line management: Manage staff and volunteers

• Communications and Outreach: Work with the Operations Manager, Trustees and volunteers to raise the profile of the charity and increase the number of seafarers reached

Person Specification

Essential 

• Experience in being self-sufficient and driving progress, ideally in a business or charity setting.

• Senior Management Experience

• Able to demonstrate alignment with the core values of Safer Waves.

• Knowledge and understanding of supporting survivors of sexual violence

Desirable

• Experience working in the charity sector. 

• An understanding of the maritime sector

About this job

The Philanthropy team is part of the Philanthropy and Partnerships department, whose primary goal is to engage high value supporters and fundraise for the Stop MS Appeal.

As Philanthropy Officer, you will work closely with the Philanthropy manager, raising income for the MS Society from philanthropy fundraising activities as per the agreed objectives and targets.

You will identify, engage and steward philanthropy prospects through events and other appropriate fundraising activities, generating income to achieve ambitious targets and delivering a first class supporter experience.

You will ensure the provision of excellent individual care to ensure long term commitment, contributing to the overall implementation of our Philanthropy team’s objectives.

Role Overview

This role contributes to the delivery of the key objectives of the Marketing and Communications team:

• To increase awareness of Global Fund for Children’s work (the number of people who ‘see’ and ‘think’ about our work).

• To convert supporters from people who ‘do’ (follow us on social media, sign up to the mailing list) to people who ‘care’ (fundraise, donate, take an action, share and create user-generated content).

You will be responsible for creating high quality, engaging and original content for various channels, including reels, carousels and posts for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. You will be keen to develop and establish new communities on other channels as the social media landscape changes.  Translating the work of our grassroots partners and GFC staff into powerful social media narratives, you will produce content that is aligned with our mission and ensure that we are maximising the potential of our digital channels to grow our supporter base and build a growing global movement.

You will collaborate with graphic designers, videographers, various digital agencies and colleagues around the world on a daily basis in undertaking your role coordinating campaigns and our daily social media schedule.

You should have a passion for staying up to date with industry trends and innovations, a track record of creating content aligned with cultural moments and a knowledge of how popular culture can drive social change. You will be skilled in producing viral content and driving actions and donations through social media.

To that end, you will also play a role in building relationships with our growing network of Global Ambassadors who use their networks and influence to raise the profile of our work and inspire their communities to take action. You will also provide support in managing relationships with our Global Ambassadors and other key influencers to maximise content opportunities and community building.

Position Responsibilities

Social Media Management and Digital Content Creation

• Support the execution of an integrated strategy for our social media channels including leading on content planning and creation, posting and analysis.
• Staying on top of trends and learning from analytics to create compelling and engaging content that meets agreed KPIs.
• Develop and produce high-quality multimedia content for various platforms, including social media, websites and email campaigns.
• Edit raw footage into finished videos using industry-standard software, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
• Support on digital ads delivery.
• Support in managing relationships with digital agencies.
• Support other teams across GFC to use social media as a method to engage and communicate with key audiences and stakeholders. 
• Work with colleagues on managing third party specialists (freelancer or agency) to maximise our website maintenance and development, digital projects, paid advertising to ensure good return on investment and that objectives are met on time and on budget.

Email Marketing

•  Act as social media content lead for major campaigns and fundraising activities
• Recommend and execute social media strategies to achieve fundraising and campaign objectives and KPIs. 
• Support the delivery of the Marketing and Communications team email marketing programme to meet agreed open and click-through rate KPIs.
• Support the team to build, design and send acquisition and retention emails using the email distribution system (Pardot).
• Support the review and analysis of email marketing results, report and evaluate overall and specific campaign success.

Global Ambassador and Influencer outreach and support

• Lead on delivering the Global Ambassador engagement strategy and influencer engagement activities.
•  Support the cultivation of existing and new influencers and Global Ambassadors. Work across teams to coordinate asks/outreach and ensure relationship managers are briefed and supported to deliver cultivation plans.
• Work with colleagues across the organisation to identify new potential celebrity supporters and influencers, develop one-pagers and coordinate sign-off process and develop recruitment plans to bring them on board.

Project management

• Lead and co-lead specific digital campaigns and projects throughout the year.
• Manage and catalogue digital assets (photos, case studies and videos) and upload them to digital asset management system.
•  Along with your colleagues, make sure that ‘Safer Communication’ and safeguarding are at the heart of all our asset collection and creation. Undertake your work in line with the safeguarding policy and best practice for marketing and communications work.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: This role is open to candidates from any location. If the candidate is based in the UK, the salary will be c. £50,000

Terms: Full-time contract, home-based with attendance from time to time at the UK office in central London when necessary or requested to deliver work plans. 

Weekly hours: 35 hours per week

Flexible Working Location: This position is open to candidates from any location, but you must be able to collaborate easily, on a daily basis, with key colleagues (currently UK, Spain, Kenya) in the Marketing and Communications team.

Holidays: 30 days annual leave and eight public holidays. The basic annual leave allowance increases to 35 days after four years continuous employment.

What you’ll be doing

As a Campaigns Analyst, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping River Action’s fight for cleaner rivers by transforming complex data and information into compelling narratives that influence public opinion, media coverage, political advocacy, and legal action.

Reporting to the Head of Campaigns, you’ll be at the heart of our evidence-based approach. You’ll be analysing government and industry data, uncovering insights, and equipping our team with the intelligence needed to challenge polluters, hold regulators accountable, and push for policy reform. 

Like a detective, you will be the person we rely on to seek out and identify the smoking gun - as well as to meticulously build out the pieces of the jigsaw - that demonstrates the malpractice, illegal behaviour or mismanagement of a water company, a factory farm or a failed regulator.

• Monitor government regulators and industry updates, tracking regulatory programmes, announcements, data, reports and other information.

• Develop and lead proactive data collection efforts including by making Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulation (EIR) requests to inform and support campaigns, legal actions, investigations and communications.

• Plan, execute and report public opinion polls to gather insights that strengthen campaign messaging.

• Analyse and interpret complex data to uncover key insights that drive impactful campaigns and communications.

• Map and assess major campaign factors, including pollution sources, supply chains, regulatory frameworks and industry compliance.

• Investigate polluters, evaluating their legal obligations, governance structures, sustainability claims, environmental performance, finances and resource allocations.

• Investigate government regulators including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and Ofwat, analysing the performance of their monitoring, reporting and law enforcement duties.

• Maintain and update internal databases and fact sheets with the latest intelligence.

The Operations Director reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

The Hardman Trust is the only charity in England, Wales and Scotland focusing on the unique needs of people on long term sentences.
People facing decades of prison time often completely lose connection with their family and friends on the outside. Depending on the prison, there may be limited access to rehabilitative programmes and educational courses until later in the sentence. It can be hard to maintain hope, and direction, or create meaningful plans for the future.
People leaving prison after 10 years will have different needs to those leaving after 10 months. The world has changed – there are different habits and new social norms. Since 2014, ARC has pioneered the use of financial incentives to improve access to healthy food and combat food insecurity through our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg projects. To date, we have supported over 11,000 families, including over 20,000 children, to access £3.5 million of fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities.

To deliver this scale, we work with 73 children and family centres and community organisations, 69 market traders and independent retailers, two fruit and vegetable vans and one fruit and vegetable delivery box scheme. We estimate that our projects have generated a total economic value added of almost £9 million for the local economies of the eight locations where we work: five London Boroughs, Barnsley, Liverpool and Glasgow.

About the role  

As we launch our new 5 year strategy we are looking for an experienced Head of Finance & Business Services to help deliver our mission and support the growth and consolidation of the charity. The Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS), the UK’s largest national charity dedicated to improving bone health and beating osteoporosis, is seeking a bold and dynamic fundraising and communications leader who can drive transformative income growth and galvanise public engagement.

Half of women aged over 50 live with osteoporosis, plus a fifth of men.  The condition causes bones to break (fracture) following everyday occurrences – e.g. sneezes, coughs and falls.  Fractures are the fourth worst cause of disability and premature death, but most people with osteoporosis are undiagnosed.

ROS works to improve diagnosis and access to care for the unacceptably high number of people whose lives risk being destroyed by this highly treatable condition each day. They equip people with practical information and support to take action on their bone health and, working with healthcare professionals and academics, influence and shape policy and practice at every level. The charity’s research arm is investigating new diagnostic approaches, including the world’s first screening programme, as well as novel treatments to beat osteoporosis for good.

This is a pivotal time for ROS as they aim to seize on momentum garnered from half a million people checking their risk, two national media partnerships, a groundbreaking Ministerial pledge to roll-out early diagnosis clinics to every area, and more people than ever engaging with their services. They aim to lead a movement for change around bone health similar to those that have gained widespread attention by menopause and prostate cancer campaigners.

To capitalise on this momentum and as the charity prepares for its 40th anniversary, the time is right for ROS to step up fundraising and public engagement to address one of the most urgent threats to people living well in later life and meet the charity’s vision - No more broken bones, no more broken lives. Strategic and Operational Leadership 

• Set a positive leadership culture aligned with SCT’s ethos, values and mission. 

• Lead the development and implementation of annual operating plans across services, in line with SCT’s strategic goals and budgets.

Service Development 

• Oversee and support the development of SCT’s front-line services including Addictions Counselling, Supported Housing, Housing First, and Training & Development (incorporating ‘Progressions’ and ‘Choices’). 

• Maintain high service quality, measurable outcomes, and trauma-informed, recovery-focused practice. 

• Develop referral pathways into services, and ensure that client progression is planned, consistent, and reflective of individual needs and ambitions. 

• Lead best practice approaches in Safeguarding and Health and Safety, prioritising client and staff wellbeing. 
• Take the lead in shaping and developing co-production across all services, ensuring that people with lived experience are meaningfully involved in the design, delivery, and evaluation of support.

Housing and Recovery Support 

• Ensure accommodation-based services provide secure, therapeutic environments that support clients to maintain their tenancy and build recovery capital. 

• Oversee SCT’s peer-led recovery community (‘Choices’) and user involvement in our social enterprises, creating training and work experience pathways for people in recovery. 

Staff Leadership and Management 

• Provide strategic leadership for a multi-disciplinary service delivery team. 

• Oversee recruitment, supervision, appraisal and development of staff, ensuring they are fully supported, briefed, and empowered. 

• Promote a culture of inclusion, collaboration and high performance.

Person Specification 

Essential Skills and Experience 

• Proven success in managing and developing high-performing, multidisciplinary teams in complex, person-centred services. 

• Significant experience delivering homelessness, housing, addiction recovery or therapeutic services. 

• Expertise in delivering services that work with people with lived experience of social exclusion. 

• Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management and trauma-informed practice. 

• Skilled in managing budgets, contracts and KPIs within charitable or commissioned services. 

• Skilled in using In-Form or similar CRM system.

• Highly effective communicator with excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills. 

Desirable 

• Experience working in a values-led organisation or charity supporting marginalised groups. 

• Knowledge of Housing First and Recovery Capital models. 

• Understanding of social enterprise and peer-led service models. 

To provide strategic and operational leadership to multidisciplinary service delivery teams, ensuring high-quality, innovative, and outcome-focused support for people in recovery or experiencing homelessness. The role is central to enhancing service standards, fostering a culture of inclusivity and compassion, and embedding lived experience in practice. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Services will help shape SCT’s strategy and build sustainable partnerships to maximise impact and long-term success.
