About the role
We are seeking a technically capable, qualified accountant with strong knowledge of the Charities SORP to provide effective stewardship and oversight of the Finance function at Kinship. You will be responsible for financial controls, management accounting and ensuring the effective delivery of ‘business as usual’ financial management.
As well as producing monthly management accounts, you will be responsible for running the annual budget and the year-end processes, preparing for the yearly external audit and ensuring that the organisation complies with statutory obligations.
You will prepare papers for and attend the quarterly Finance Committee meetings and will liaise with a range of stakeholders including auditors, the bank and investment managers. You will be the ‘go to’ business partner at the charity, supported by the Chief Operating Officer and Fractional Chief Financial Officer.
You will manage a team of two colleagues – a Senior Finance Officer and a Payroll Manager – providing them with guidance, coaching and support to enable them to perform effectively. You will also collaborate and work with Directors and senior managers across the organisation to inform them on performance against budget and conditions of funding, as well as supporting fundraising and commissioning bids.
You will have excellent communication skills and will be able to organise conflicting priorities around the monthly management accounts cycle, while supporting the achievement of our strategic objectives. You will be flexible and adaptable in your approach to supporting transformational change in our processes and systems, as well as dealing with, and leading on, the day-to-day financial management.
This is a broad and challenging role for a dynamic and systems-driven individual who wants to grow within the organisation, proactively problem solve and help colleagues to deliver on our mission.
Essential requirements include:
- Fully qualified ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles, standards and the Charities SORP, and experience of applying these in a service delivery organisation
- Experience managing a Finance function in a charity with £1-10m annual turnover
- Experience of line management and developing a team using approaches that are empowering
- Experience of Business Central, or the ability to quickly learn a new accounting system
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to use Pivot Tables and other functions to analyse large data sets

Responsibilities
In this role you will have 6 key responsibilities:
Financial: Managing a portfolio of high-value relationships and to deliver income at the agreed annual target in the first year with an expectation this will rise year on year.
Management: You will be one of the first points of contact internally for trusts/foundations and individual major donors (IMD) related queries and will work in accordance with the major giving team strategic plan and existing procedures, practices and standards.
Relationship:You will seek to actively develop and manage excellent relationships with an agreed portfolio of trusts/foundations and IMD capable of donating a minimum of £25,000 or more as a single gift each year. In addition you will need to:
- Develop and implement professionally written action plans which will engage, inform and nurture prospects and donors to deliver gifts at the agreed level.
- Undertake timely administration to capture and record knowledge of supporters within the customer relationship management database. Work with the organisation’s systems team to utilise this information to enhance applications and giving levels
- Pro-actively develop relationships with key stakeholders within the MAF organisation(s)
- Present MAF proposals alone or with others, (member of the operational field team, CEO etc), to prospects and donors.
- Participate in events to develop relationships with donors, inviting individuals from portfolios where appropriate and co-ordinate visits to MAF overseas operations where appropriate to introduce these donors directly to the work of MAF.
Information: Information management and analytical thinking is essential as you will present detailed, accurate and high-quality fundraising proposals to prospects and donors, ensuring any specific deadlines or funding windows are complied with. In addition you will need to:
- Ensure that donors are thanked appropriately for their gifts with timely and appropriate reports, letters and phone call.
- Provide timely ‘report backs’ that are appropriate/agreed with each donor, to evidence effective use of funding and to encourage the opportunity to make further applications based on good stewardship and achievement of agreed outcomes.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge, and the funding priority, of projects available for funding by trusts/foundations supporters and prospects.
- Actively seeking to grow the trusts/foundations portfolio and income through the use of research
- Attending regular appropriate training courses, external forums and networks to ensure continuous personal development
Major Donor team (practice/ procedures/training):As a key member of the team you will need to ensure procedures and standards are developed/maintained to ensure we are effective and compliant with any legislation/regulation.
CRM Database: To provide support to the Partnership Executive, who will be the team’s CRM database lead and maintain a thorough working understanding of MAF UK’s CRM system in order to answer specific team queries. You will need to support the teams day-to-day CRM activities including producing reports, importing data, adding activities, amending details and any other relevant tasks

Speech and Language UK does incredible work supporting young people who face challenges with talking and understanding words. The Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships will lead across Trusts & Statutory, Corporate Partnerships and Major Donors income streams, supporting the team in securing income and building relationships with institutional and philanthropic funders.
To be successful as the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, you will need:
- Significant experience securing 5- & 6-figure gifts from Trusts and Statutory Funders.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with high-value donors and developing new major funding propositions.
- A track record of devising, implementing and monitoring successful fundraising strategies.
- Experience with leading a team, supporting individual members on their professional development and working collaboratively to achieve income targets.

- Lead cross-cutting strategic analysis projects across marketing, fundraising and campaigning teams.

About you
To be successful, it is important that you have:
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience applying advanced analytical techniques in marketing, including segmentation (e.g. cluster analysis), behaviour prediction (e.g. propensity modelling), churn analysis, A/B testing, and data visualisation.
- Strong skills in R (R Studio) or Python for statistical analysis in a commercial context.
- Experience with data analytics tools and platforms such as Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Salesforce, Microsoft Power BI, and website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics) is desirable.
- Experience working with large datasets, including extracting and preparing data using SQL and a strong understanding of relational databases.

Ways of Working:
The majority of our roles can be performed remotely in the UK, but there are likely to be times when you will be required to come to your contracted office in London (up to 2-4 days per month or 6-8 days per quarter). This will be agreed with your Line Manager and team and is intended to be time spent alongside the analysis team for collaboration and innovation activities, and for divisional in-person days. The Analysis team currently works in 3-week planning sprints with two virtual team stand ups a week.

Role overview:
A pivotal senior position within the Legacy and In Memory Fundraising team, this role works closely with the Head of Legacy and In Memory Fundraising to lead key fundraising initiatives and stewardship efforts. Single Friendly Church Network is a young charity which encourages churches to welcome and value single people at every stage of life and of all types of singleness. Our work and influence are growing across a wide range of denominations. We want to reach more churches across the UK who could benefit from our resources and training, with the vision that all single Christians will be able to find a welcoming Single Friendly Church in their local area where they can flourish.
We achieved charitable status in 2023 (before that we were a Community Interest Company) and have a newly refined purpose and identity set out in a new website and other digital media (including in our promotional film ‘Inspiring Change’ available on YouTube). We have developed ‘5 Steps‘ towards becoming a Single Friendly Church.
We now aim to expand our impact across the UK and deepen our engagement with churches from a wide range of Christian denominations, in accordance with our strategy.
After 3 years our existing Executive Director is stepping down from the role and we are seeking a new person to take the next steps forward.
The role
- Leading a review of the Charity’s operational strategy in accordance with our agreed Mission and identity

The successful applicant does not have to be single – but does need to show awareness and understanding of the challenges facing single people in both Church and Society as a whole.
Terms
There is an office in central London. We are looking for someone who can commit up to 3 days per week on average, on a freelance basis. The successful candidate would likely be in the office one day a week. The hourly rate offered would be between £35 and £45 depending on experience.
