We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Supporter Engagement Manager to join our dedicated income generation team on a 12-month, fixed-term contract.
The Supporter Engagement Manager will lead the acquisition, retention and development of individual donors through our multi-channel campaigns, ensuring growth in our donor base and engagement with our supporters. You will use data insights to optimise fundraising strategies and enhance the supporter experience.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in direct marketing and individual giving, with strong copywriting, budgeting and project management skills, and proficiency in CRM systems and data analytics. They will have a good working knowledge of GDPR and IoF Codes of Practice.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, managing and executing the delivery of the Supporter Engagement Programme, including supporter acquisition, retention and uplift through all on- and offline direct marketing channels
- Leading fundraising initiatives such as seasonal appeals, matched funding and legacy giving
- Maintaining all supporter records on the database

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern
This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

The role is offered on a fixed term contract part time basis with flexible, hybrid home and office working arrangements from our Head Office in Eastleigh, Hampshire.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:
- To develop, implement and manage regional (community) fundraising the associated income and expenditure budgets, ensuring that all budget targets are achieved
- To evaluate regional fundraising plans on a regular basis and make changes when necessary
- To cultivate relationships with existing individuals, fundraising committees, businesses, schools and community groups by executing exemplary, personalised stewardships in order to maximise fundraising income, and to ensure their life long support.
- To research and identify prospective new regional fundraising opportunities and activities and to produce funding proposals for donors and prospects, ensuring that the potential of these sources is fully maximised
- To secure charity of year adoptions for organisations, including community groups, golf clubs, schools and smaller companies.
- To undertake talks to community groups to maintain relationships, nurture new contacts and elicit donations.
- To work closely with the Supporter Services Team and to uplift support under £1,000.
- To actively promote and recruit participants to the Event Programme as per event target (to be outlined) for each activity.
- To input into the development of the Ambassador programme, working with members of the Volunteer Support Team.
- To work in conjunction with the Marketing Team to ensure strategic marketing and communication plans are created to promote community fundraising activity effectively
- To support and manage volunteers utilising skills and resources available, working with other Trust personnel as appropriate.
- To develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the region, the companies, community and events including the smaller parishes that are in the region.
- To produce monthly activity plans and reports.
- To monitor income against agreed targets, escalating issues as necessary and agreeing remedial actions
- To carry out any other duties as required by the Fundraising Management Team.
Hours and Benefits:
This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. You will work Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
This role offers hybrid work, working 3 days in the office at our Hospices in Sutton Scotney, and 2 days remotely. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to travel around the region to meet community leaders, donors and supporters.
Salary - up to £30,750 FTE, dependent upon experience.

The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) - whose mobile food clubs give access to low cost weekly shops and affordable food to communities starved of money, food and resources - is seeking a passionate, strategic and proactive fundraising leader to join their dynamic team at a pivotal time in the charity’s growth.
The charity’s vision is to make life more affordable, to build strong communities and to reduce food waste. Since launching in 2016, The Bread and Butter Thing has grown rapidly – now reaching over 100,000 people through more than 140 community hubs across the North of England, with an annual income of circa £6 million. As well as tackling food poverty, the charity creates spaces that foster community connection, reduce social isolation, and improve general wellbeing.
This role will take a lead on growing and diversifying income from trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors and public sector sources, and will be responsible for championing a culture of partnership, building meaningful relationships and helping to amplify the organisation’s impact and story.
The Philanthropy Lead is central to TBBT’s ambitions to grow their geographical reach and raise their national profile to reach more communities, working to shape and deliver a high-value fundraising strategy, lead multi-sector funding bids, and work hand in hand with delivery teams, partners, and stakeholders. As the subject expert in fundraising, the post-holder will be hands-on in developing proposals and cases for support, managing key accounts, and working as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team to identify and progress opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have a proven record of building relationships and securing income from high-value sources, including trusts and foundations, corporates, major donors and public bodies. You will have experience of developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies with measurable outcomes. A strong understanding of the funding landscape for community development, poverty reduction, and/or food justice would be an advantage.
As well as having excellent communication skills you will be an outstanding relationship-builder, able to connect with funders, partners, communities, and colleagues. You will be a strategic thinker, comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Final you will be collaborative, proactive and passionate about tackling poverty, food insecurity, and inequality.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategy and Leadership
- To support the day-to-day management of the charity and contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction and growth, as part of the senior leadership team.

Fundraising:

- To ensure our fundraising approach and activities remain aligned with our organisational strategy, values and fundraising model.
- To lead, inspire and develop the Supporter Engagement team (formed of the Grassroots, Philanthropy, Institutional Giving and Supporter Care teams).
- To manage a portfolio of donor, volunteer and prospect relationships, travelling regularly to attend meetings, and network to cultivate new prospects and funding opportunities.
- To support the team to develop professional and engaging fundraising materials including fundraising propositions, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches, presentations and reports.
- To oversee volunteer strategy, management and support to further empower our volunteers with a greater role in our shared vision and maximise their skills and networks.
Budgeting, Reporting and Compliance
- To set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure budgets, providing regular reports as required to the Executive Director, Leadership team, wider Mary’s Meals family, and our Board of Trustees.
- To feed into organisational strategic KPIs and team KPIs, and ensure a regular schedule of reporting, and insight gathering is in place to monitor activity and use insight to guide decision-making and drive growth.
People and culture
- To create a high performing team that is ambitious and passionate about the Mary’s Meals vision.
- To ensure teams receive consistent and motivating direction and feedback to enable them to work to the best of their ability.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the charity at all levels, adopting and encouraging a collaborative working approach across the Mary’s Meals family. This role must work particularly closely with the Director of Communications, and collaboration with this role will be key.
- To work with the Head of People to ensure that MMUK is an employer of choice which attracts, recruits and retains a talented team of values-led, paid employees and volunteers, throughout the UK.
- To actively promote safeguarding practices and model behaviours that support a safe culture across all MMUK activities.
About you:
- Significant experience operating at senior management level, including leading a fundraising department, ideally with experience in the areas of grassroots and major giving fundraising.
- Experience of developing and executing strategies to secure significant revenue generation, with specific evidence of delivering income growth.
- Experience of representing an organisation at a senior level, with excellent written, presentation and public speaking skills.
- Excellent entrepreneurial networking and relationship building abilities, with experience of proactively identifying and cultivating new and existing donor relationships, and securing strategic funding partnerships and high-value donations.
- Experience in volunteer strategy, management, recruitment and engagement.
- Experience in setting, monitoring and delivering significant annual income and expenditure budgets, providing regular reports as required.
- Experience of testing and launching new fundraising products (e.g., mass engagement grassroots campaigns, corporate partnerships, major donor events etc.).
- Experience of developing first-class supporter journeys, interactions, products and propositions.
- Experience in innovation and product development.

To support this and deliver our ambitious Fundraising programme we are looking for an experienced Senior Development Manager to lead our Donor Engagement and Legacy teams on a one-year fixed-term basis for a period of maternity cover.
Working with internal and external stakeholders, you will lead the teams to implement a successful donor development and engagement strategy to increase the loyalty and value of our supporters.
You will:
- Work with the Head of Individual Giving to shape the department so it is fit to support and deliver our Fundraising strategy.
- Report monthly on your team’s activity against key performance indicators
- Be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the Donor Engagement and Legacy budgets.
- Act as an advocate for innovation to establish future and sustainable income streams to drive lifetime value.
- Lead a team of five fundraisers.
You will have a proven track record of delivering successful growth programmes for supporter development, including mid-value donors, and Legacy.In addition you will have experience of leading, motivating and managing high performing teams demonstrating a leadership culture that embraces collaboration, excellence and the importance of individual accountability.
This is a one-year fixed-term maternity cover role, working 37.5 hours per week on a hybrid basis with the expectation that our successful candidate will work from our Godmanchester site approximately 1 - 2 days a month dependant on business need. The starting salary for this position will be £45,511 - £50,568 depending on experience. This is complemented by;
- 36 days annual leave per year (inclusive of bank holidays) rising by 1 day each year to 40 days after five years
