Key information:
Location: Remote working. (UK only) Must be able to attend a minimum of 5 mandatory meetings per year (includes overnight stay for 2-day meetings) at our office in Shrewsbury and occasional meetings elsewhere.
Contract: Permanent. Full time 37.5 hours a week.
Salary: Between £30,000 – £33,000 a year depending on experience.

Job Purpose
Working across fundraising and communications you will develop and manage your own portfolio of existing Trusts and Foundations, community and individual donors, and research and prioritise new opportunities ensuring high quality stewardship to secure ongoing support. This role will focus on producing high-quality applications and reports to funders and by providing excellent account management and cross-team collaboration. You will play a vital role in communicating our work through compelling positive case studies, stories, impacts, and images, to raise our profile and motivate people to give via supporting digital campaigns, website and social media channels. Engaging new, existing donors and all stakeholders via all communication streams is key.
Responsibilities
Trust Fundraising

Develop, manage, and maintain a trust and foundations fundraising portfolio with a clear, scheduled pipeline of funding applications, coordinating opportunities and team resources to meet targets.

Cultivate strong working relationships with current and new trust and foundations, proactively seeking meetings, ensuring excellent relationship management.

Collaborate with colleagues to create compelling proposals and reports.

Work with monitoring and finance colleagues to inform impact and budgetary needs, ensuring timely reporting to donors in line with their grant conditions.

Build resilient, long-term relationships with identified supporters, keeping them well-informed about events, campaigns, projects, and the charity itself, to foster a strong sense of belonging to Village Water, ensuring excellent stewardship.

Use multiple research methods and communication channels to build and manage a prospective donor pipeline.

Research and write applications to grant-making trusts, targeting an amount in line with Village Water's annual budget, with an emphasis on securing unrestricted funds where possible.

Ensure all information on your portfolio of donors is well stewarded, recorded, and actioned in Village Water's database.

Develop ad-hoc events and campaigns both in person and via Zoom, recruiting and managing volunteers where necessary.

Send personalised thank-you communications and updates to individual supporters, manage ongoing engagement with regular donors, and oversee the distribution of physical milestone cards to celebrate significant achievements.
Communications:

Create and curate a calendar of multimedia content to increase engagement and audience reach through digital and traditional marketing materials, social media posts, e-newsletters, and our website.

Support the development and management of Village Water’s website, ensuring content and architecture are up to date, consistent, and engagingly showcase our work, current campaigns, news stories and calls to action.

Lead on the development of paid for digital campaigns including budgeting, A/B testing, asset creation, copywriting, and reporting.

Create a range of digital graphics and assets, including animations, images, videos, banners, and infographics.

Design printed marketing items - such as reports, leaflets, flyers, banners, and signage.

Develop a timeline for the ‘comms hub’ remote capacity building for the local partners in Zambia and Mozambique to train in specific comms activities, gather material and share learning.
General

Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, external suppliers, and local partners to advance organisational goals.

Attend networking events and build relationships that benefit Village Water.

Participate in and report during weekly team meetings and, when necessary, at Trustee meetings.

Provide assistance for other fundraising initiatives as needed, promoting a collaborative work environment and supporting the overall fundraising efforts of the organisation.

Ensure compliance with the organisation's safeguarding policies by completing all required training.
Skills and experience:

Demonstrable success in securing grants, including awards between £20-£100k.

Confident and effective communicator with excellent presentation skills, able to engage with a range of supporters in groups, individually, face-to-face, and remotely.

Proven experience in writing compelling cases for support and supporter updates that inspire and persuade donors.

Experience with Canva, Adobe, Salesforce desirable.

Ability to develop, analyse, and interpret budgets and financial information.

Scope
As a charity the RHN has to raise over £3.4M in voluntary income each year to pay for vital therapies and services that improve the quality of life experienced by people with severe or complex disabilities caused by brain injury. This includes a chaplaincy service, music therapy, therapeutic art, leisure and family services, assistive technology, research, medical equipment and capital refurbishment projects.
The Trusts & Major Gifts Team has annual income responsibility of £1M; the Legacy Team has annual income responsibility for £1M; the Events Team has annual income responsibility for £230kk from event and £75k from Corporate fundraising; the Donor Development Team has annual income responsibility of £550k.
The Trusts and Foundations Officer will work with the Senior Trusts Fundraiser and the Trusts and Major Gifts Manager to generate income though grant giving organisations. As a member of a small fundraising team, there is also a requirement to help with other ad hoc fundraising activities, in particular helping with events when necessary. In order to fulfil the role and understand nature of the hospital, it is required to work on site the majority of the time, with flexibility around hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect Research - To conduct prospect research into appropriate trusts & foundations to identify new support for the RHN, and to and carry out suitable research on trusts and trustees using the internet and secondary research sources.
- Planning – Carry out extensive income planning and preparation ahead of each new financial year, including application planning using Excel to chart monthly applications, amounts sought and estimated response dates.Assist the Trusts and Major Gifts Manager to prepare the Fundraising Team’s projected income ahead of each new financial year. Take ownership of, understand, rationalise, and where necessary, adapt how the post holder’s personal income target is to be achieved.
- Annual Trusts Mailing, collating and checking the list of recipients, writing funder updates, administering the mailing, acknowledging all gifts and documenting all correspondence or Raiser’s Edge, relevant spreadsheets and electronic files.
- Administration – Ensure that records are regularly updated to reflect fundraising activity on Raiser’s Edge; use spreadsheets to record planned applications, projected income and secured income. Keep records of all donor correspondence on Raiser’s Edge and electronic files.
- Information gathering - To have an updated and working knowledge of funding requirements for the RHN which have been budgeted for and develop an understanding of how gifts for special purposes are allocated.
- Events – To support the wider team in hosting and preparation for events. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Best Practice - To adhere to best practice in prospect cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and ensure that the appropriate ethical policies and practices of the RHN are followed.
- Relationship Development – to ensure effective and co-operative relationships are established and maintained with donors and also internal staff, volunteers and senior volunteers.
Essential skills
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of fundraising best practice, with at least 12 months experience in trusts fundraising and a proven track record of developing a trusts pipeline and securing funds.
- Possess an energetic, pro-active, ‘can-do’ attitude.
- Good IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office, and preferably a fundraising database such as Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience of using research tools to acquire information about existing and prospective funders. Excellent prospect research and profile creation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – relationship building and networking skills to develop and nurture donor relationships. Ability to establish rapport with a diverse range of people.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and financially numerate.
- Organised approach to work – proactive, good and methodical administrative skills, with good planning and time-management. Ability to prioritise and think work well under pressure.
- Creative thinking and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills to put across compelling and persuasive cases for support with outstanding written style.
- Experience of working as part of a team as well as on own initiative.

Role Overview:
As a key member of our team, you will:
· Support our approach to securing both statutory income (grants and contracts) and voluntary income (trusts, corporates, major donors, individuals), in partnership with the Leadership Team.
· Working with the CEO to support organisational tendering and commercial income generation activities aligned with the strategy, coordinating solution design and written bids.
· Lead on grant identification- conduct research to identify potential grant and foundation funding opportunities
· Lead on grant applications – including the development of compelling grant proposals, you will manage the grant application process, including drafting, editing, and submitting grant proposals within deadlines, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
· Working alongside the Director of Finance, support the preparation of budgets for tenders and fundraising.
· Ensure all our income generation activity is compliant with fundraising governance and legislation, including GDPR, PECR, and the Code of Fundraising Practice, and ensure our systems and processes (including the database and reporting) are compliant and fit for purpose in Business Development.

· Grant writing, fundraising, or development, preferably in the nonprofit sector
· Grant funding mechanisms, including government, foundations, and statutory funding programmes

Since 2018, Connect: North Korea (CNK) has grown from a small community start-up into an effective and impactful organisation with an annual income of approaching £500,000, mainly through grants from Trusts and Foundations. We now want to develop our individual giving programme to build our unrestricted income and secure our long term growth.
As our new Head of Individual Giving, you will be responsible for growing our income from our individual and corporate base to help us reach more vulnerable members of our community. You will lead on individual fundraising relationships and initiatives, including appeals, fundraising campaigns, and all direct marketing activities and communications. You will position us in our supporters’ minds and encourage them to actively support CNK in 2025 and beyond.
Position: Head of Individual Giving
Responsible to: CEO
Based at: Our offices in New Malden KT3 with some remote/home working. We will be as flexible as possible to accommodate the right candidate.
Contract: Permanent. Full-time (35 hours per week) with occasional evening working required. Flexible hours/days possible whilst respecting core hours of 10am-4pm
Salary: £42,000 - £45,000 + 5% pension on qualifying earnings, health insurance and gym membership

The role
Your specific objectives will be to:

Grow our individual supporter base (individual and corporate) by 30% in 2025 through new donor acquisition strategies

Increasing our unrestricted income from major, mid and low level donors and corporate partners to £100,000 per annum in 2025 and beyond

Delivering impactful messages, responsive and successful direct marketing and digital fundraising campaigns

Strategy:

Strategise and plan our annual individual and corporate giving programme with targets and performance indicators.This will be a key focus area within our 2025/6 corporate fundraising strategy.

Report quarterly on progress. Use online analytics, social media insights and other metrics to help us learn, improve and grow our income from low, mid,major donors and corporate supporters.
Annual Corporate and Individual Giving Programmes:

Develop and deliver CNK corporate and individual giving fundraising programme of events, campaigns and appeals to raise £100,000 in 2025.

Work closely with CEO and CNK team members to craft information into compelling copy, asks, supporter updates, social media content and personalised campaign appeals.

Plan and deliver low and mid level individual giving campaigns to cultivate new donors, convert existing supporters from once off donations to regular givers and inspire donors to increase their current support.

Design and deliver our annual major donor giving programme. Cultivate, communicate and inspire new major donors to join us with the aim of increasing our current major donor pool by 10%. Steward current donors, keep in touch, craft compelling asks to support their progression towards more frequent or higher-value donations.

Report monthly to the CEO on the success of campaigns and programming, income raised, number of new supporters/followers, conversion rates, offering insight on ROI, learnings and how we will incorporate this learning to improve how we do things in future.
Fundraising compliance:

Save all profiles, donations, giving history, gift aid agreements, correspondence, and communications with supporters on CNK CRM database. Uphold GDPR and comply with fundraising best practice.
US Individual Giving Programme:

Contribute towards developing a new US individual giving portfolio through prospect research and crafting compelling fundraising asks.
Staff & Volunteer Management:

Create and manage a volunteer fundraising programme to grow individual giving through community events, social media and awareness raising.
The role has no direct line reports at present but there may be in future, budget permitting
Essential skills and experience:
You will have at least five, ideally eight, years experience of:

individual giving fundraising for a small charity, with a track record of developing and delivering successful individual giving campaigns that have generated 5 figure sums

building a supporter base - both amongst low value, but also mid level and major donors

gathering information, case studies, data and finances, distilling and crafting high quality, well articulated compelling funding asks

growing charity brand and positioning, thorough consistent approach, campaigns, asks,use of language and artwork

digital marketing including social media, email marketing, and website content management

designing tools, inputting data and keeping CRM software updated, using data analytics to report on donor journey and drive fundraising decisions
