We’re looking for an experienced and creative fundraiser to lead our individual giving and supporter engagement programmes, grow our supporter base, and champion innovation in public engagement and income generation. You’ll be rallying resources which will ultimately help us grow our impact for wild orangutans and the people living alongside them.

The Role

As Head of Individual Giving & Supporter Engagement, you’ll lead the strategic development and delivery of SOS’s public fundraising portfolio – inspiring individuals around the world to take action and give generously for the future of Sumatra’s rainforests and wildlife.

You’ll be responsible for individual giving, digital acquisition and retention, legacies, appeals and campaigns, and supporter events. You’ll be given the freedom to innovate, identifying and developing new income streams and engagement products and approaches that help us reach and inspire new audiences.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with strong acquisition experience, who can help us grow and diversify our supporter base.

Reporting to the CEO, you’ll work closely with communications, partnerships, and programmes colleagues to build an engaged community of supporters and advocates for SOS.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead the development and delivery of SOS’s public fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s mission and income targets.

• Set and manage income and expenditure budgets for all individual giving fundraising streams, ensuring healthy ROI and sustainability. 

• Set clear targets and KPIs, with robust financial planning, forecasting, and monitoring.

• Foster innovation across public fundraising, developing and testing new products and propositions.

• Promote a culture of data and insight-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and connecting our supporters to the impact they enable.

• Adhere to the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practise and Data Protection legislation and ensure the SOS Donor Promise and Fundraising Values are alive and visible in all fundraising activity.

Individual Giving & Donor Development

• Oversee acquisition, retention, and uplift strategies for individual donors, ensuring a seamless and inspiring supporter journey.

• Design and manage a calendar of appeals and campaigns, including the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

• Work closely with Communications & Marketing colleagues to deliver compelling creative content and integrated fundraising campaigns across digital channels.
   

Digital Fundraising

• Lead on digital acquisition strategy and performance, testing and optimising paid and organic campaigns to grow SOS’s online giving and supporter base.

• Manage and optimise digital giving platforms, donor journeys, and analytics to improve conversion, retention, and lifetime value.
   

Legacies & Events

• Develop and implement SOS’s legacy marketing strategy, raising awareness and nurturing pledgers and enquirers with care and authenticity.

• Manage fundraising events (such as our Buffoonery comedy night) and oversee community fundraising initiatives, optimising engagement and lifetime value.
   

Collaboration & Management

• Line manage the Development Assistant, ensuring that our supporters receive outstanding stewardship.

• Work closely with colleagues across Development, Communications, and Programmes to ensure a joined-up approach to engagement, conversion, and storytelling.

• Keep up to date with sector trends, digital innovations, and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and best practice in all fundraising activity.
   

About You

You’re a strategic and practical fundraiser who knows how to inspire public giving. You combine creativity with an analytical approach, and you’re motivated by purpose and impact. You’ll flourish in a small, committed team where innovation and collaboration are key.

Essential:

• Significant experience in individual giving and/or digital fundraising, including both strategy development and delivery.

• Proven track record of meeting or exceeding income targets across multiple channels.

• Familiarity with CRM systems and digital fundraising platforms.

• Strong understanding of digital acquisition and retention techniques, data-driven fundraising, and supporter journeys.

• Experience managing appeals and campaigns, ideally including match-funded initiatives (e.g. the Big Give).

• Excellent copywriting, creative and analytical skills, with an eye for compelling storytelling.

• Experience in budget management and performance reporting.

• Collaborative and adaptable, with excellent project management and communication skills.

Barnardo's is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to join our Fundraising & Marketing Directorate as Interim Head of Individual Giving. This is a pivotal senior management role, responsible for leading a team delivering a supporter and data focused fundraising programme, inspiring the public to donate, do more and build loyalty through authentic and compelling communications aligned to Barnardo's strategy. About the Role 

As Head of Individual Giving, you will lead a high-performing team of fundraising specialists across regular giving, cash, raffle, lottery, and legacy marketing. Our client works to advance how we see and understand visual arts, as an internationally renowned centre for the teaching, research of art history and a major public gallery. As such, the Advancement team is growing, and the institute is now recruiting a Development Lead (Legacies).

The Development Lead (Legacies) is a newly created position that will develop the legacy strategy for the organisation and own a growing area of strategic importance, leading the delivery of a compelling, pro-active legacy giving programme to support the institute's long-term ambitions. The strategy you will develop will be multi-year in its scope and will increase legacy income through fundraising, marketing and stewardship, and will integrate legacy giving into broader fundraising and alumni engagement plans.

The selected candidate will have proven experience in legacy fundraising with a track record of developing and implementing successful legacy giving strategies, with demonstrable experience too of securing significant legacy pledges. You will have experience of developing annual and multi-year strategic plans that drive forward in-year activity with long-term growth.

• A seasoned senior leader (CEO or equivalent), ideally within the charity, membership or community-services sectors.

About the role

This is a creative and purpose-driven role at the heart of our charity’s communications. As Senior Communications Officer, you’ll help us tell powerful stories, share our impact, and build connections with our members, supporters and partners.

You’ll lead on producing engaging digital content, managing our social media and newsletters, and keeping our website fresh and accessible. You’ll also support light-touch fundraising campaigns, helping us grow our income and supporter base.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys combining creativity with strategy, you’ll use your writing, design and digital skills to make our work visible and compelling, while ensuring the voices of those living with rare conditions remain at the centre of everything we do.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Membership and Communications and our new Director of Engagement and Impact, contributing ideas that strengthen how we engage all our audiences.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

• A strong communicator with at least two years’ experience in a communications role.

• Skilled in producing visual and written content for websites, social media and newsletters.

• Confident using digital tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe suite, Wordpress/Drupal).

• Organised, creative, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.

• Motivated by making a difference for people affected by genetic, rare and undiagnosed conditions.

Experience in the health, social care or charity sector would be an advantage, but curiosity and empathy matter just as much as direct experience.

The Generous Giving Manager is a very exciting and influential role at the Diocese, as you will build on the strong and energetic foundations within our two-person Generous Giving Team to strengthen the financial sustainability of local churches by encouraging generosity in time, talents and financial giving.

Working closely with deaneries, parishes and their leadership teams, you will identify local challenges and opportunities for generous giving, sharing innovative giving practices to help parishes and deaneries develop creative and effective ways to resource their mission.

Communicating clearly and inspiringly the principles of Christian giving to diverse audiences, you will keep up to date with National Church resources, promoting and supporting a wide range of giving methods such as the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS), online and contactless giving. You will also offer guidance to parish officers for resources on giving campaigns, legacies and grant funding.

This is an ideal role for someone with a good understanding of church life, a passion for helping local churches thrive, a strong commitment to community engagement and an understanding of generosity grounded in Christian teaching.

With demonstrable experience in fundraising or parish ministry, you should bring an awareness of the financial and missional challenges facing churches today, particularly in rural contexts. 

With an understanding of the Church of England’s structures, ethos, and range of traditions, you will have the proven ability to plan, advise on and lead giving or fundraising programmes in a not-for-profit or charitable context. You should also have a clear understanding of the teaching which underpins the Christian principles of giving.

Your motivational and collaborative approach across a variety of settings, combined with your outstanding interpersonal skills and natural ability at rapport building will ensure you are able to generate and develop creative, solution-focused ideas, engaging and inspiring individuals and groups, both in person and online.

Typically, you will operate during office hours but will need to adjust your working pattern in order to meet with parishes in the evenings and/or occasionally attend their Sunday worship, so the ability to travel to remote locations and work flexibly is a necessity.
