Main duties of the job

The Charity Director is responsible for driving the purpose and impact of Frimley Health Charity (FHC), ensuring the charity delivers meaningful benefits to patients, staff, and the wider community. The role combines strategic leadership with active operational involvement, across income growth and translating the charity’s vision into practical initiatives and improvements. The postholder will develop and implement a plan to deliver on the newly agreed FHC strategy to grow income streams, maximise impact, and maintain low operating costs, while also engaging directly in day-to-day operations to ensure the charity runs smoothly and efficiently.

In addition to strategic planning, the Charity Director undertakes hands-on tasks such as financial management, data analysis, market research, process improvement, and reporting to the Charitable Funds Committee and Trust Board. The role involves leading a small, high-performing team, supporting staff in their day-to-day work, and maintaining a culture of collaboration and accountability. The postholder also engages directly with patients, staff, donors, and community partners, and oversees marketing, communications, creative projects, and wellbeing initiatives, ensuring that all activities align to the charity’s purpose. The charity aims to generate an income of £2 million per annum and there is an expectation of the postholder to grow the charity over the coming years.

About The Role

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Philanthropy manager for Trusts and Foundations to join the King’s Maudsley Partnership (KMP) fundraising team and secure significant long-term philanthropic investment for children and adolescent mental health research and treatment.

The King’s Maudsley Partnership will have its home at Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People in south London, opening in early 2026. The partnership brings together clinical and academic excellence in a unique collaboration between the UK’s largest NHS provider of specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (the Trust), and King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), the leading child and adolescent mental health research team in Europe – with Maudsley Charity as its charity partner alongside other leading philanthropists.

The Centre has been partly funded by philanthropy via a successful capital campaign secured in excess of £30m, and this role will work with the new Director of King's Maudsley Partnership, Professor Philip Shaw, and colleagues across the Trust, IoPPN, Maudsley Charity and KCL fundraising department to ensure philanthropic income continues to be a significant driver of change.

As Senior Philanthropy Manager for Trusts and Foundations, you will lead on cultivating and stewarding high‑value relationships with charitable trusts and foundations to secure six and seven-figure gifts. The role will focus on developing compelling proposals grounded in evidence and impact, managing a robust pipeline of donors and prospects, and ensuring timely reporting that builds long‑term confidence in our work. About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• Demonstrable experience in fundraising from trusts, foundations and statutory funders, ideally in the Higher Education or health/research sector, with a focus on six and seven figure donations.
• Experience of growing a fundraising pipeline, with an emphasis on building new relationships with previously ‘cold’ prospects and managing a cultivation through to solicitation and stewardship.
• A proven track record of using initiative to secure major grants and donations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong powers of persuasion.
• Experience in preparing budgets, monitoring project expenditure and delivering clear impact reports

Location Home-based in the South East of the UK, with regular travel across your region and occasional trips to the charity’s Head Office in Ashford, Kent

Role purpose

To generate sustainable income and grow our community of supporters through regional fundraising campaigns, community fundraising, local trusts and corporates, and regional membership recruitment. This role also supports project-specific giving, ensuring alignment with our priority impact areas, such as raising awareness, patient services and glaucoma research.

Key responsibilities

Fundraising & Income Generation

• Deliver regional fundraising appeals and campaigns aligned to local services.
• Develop and support community fundraising activities and events.
• Research and apply to relevant rusts and grant makers.
• Identify and engage regional corporate supporters.
• Create compelling sponsorship proposals and corporate packages.
• Lead on regional project-led fundraising tied to specific impact areas (e.g. our ‘Eye Health for All’ outreach programme, glaucoma research).

 Membership & Supporter Development

• Support regional membership recruitment.
• Help move individuals from initial contact through to deeper engagement and long-term membership of the charity.
• Promote opportunities for deeper supporter journeys including legacy giving.

 Stewardship & Supporter Care

• Follow up with community and regional supporters to thank and update them.
• Tailor recognition to reflect local efforts and giving.
• Share stories of impact from regional initiatives.
• Identify supporters for deeper conversations (major giving, legacies, etc.).

Marketing & Communications

• Provide regional case studies, stories, and testimonials.
• Support regional visibility through PR opportunities and storytelling.
• Work with the Communications team to develop tailored regional materials to support campaigns and stewardship.

 Collaboration with Support Services Team

• Collaborate closely with our local outreach teams to ensure relevance of fundraising activities:
  • Identify potential projects and fundraising needs.
  • Share local insight and opportunities.
  • Provide updates and feedback from supporters.
  • Build your knowledge of local projects and services that could inspire donations

Skills and Experience Required

Essential

• Proven experience in fundraising (community, trusts, corporates or individual giving).
• Strong relationship-building skills across a wide range of audiences.

• Strong communication skills – verbal, written and interpersonal.

Desirable

Legacy and In Memory income contributes over half of all fundraised income, making this a strategically significant role with the opportunity to drive meaningful and lasting impact. About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Mass Fundraising, you will lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of our Gifts in Wills and In Memory programmes. You’ll shape strategies that drive sustainable income growth, ensure operational excellence, and deliver exceptional stewardship for supporters, families and executors.

You will oversee all aspects of legacy marketing, legacy administration and in-memory giving, ensuring compliance, accuracy and sensitivity in this specialist area. You will also provide clear reporting and forecasting to track performance and identify future income opportunities. Working collaboratively across the charity, you’ll embed best practice, enhance supporter journeys and maximise long-term income opportunities.

As a senior leader, you will guide and develop a skilled team of five, championing a culture of collaboration, learning and data-led decision-making.

About You

You’ll be a strategic, compassionate and resourceful leader with a strong background in legacy fundraising, legacy administration and/or in memory giving. You’ll bring both technical expertise and emotional intelligence — able to oversee sensitive stewardship activity, manage complex matters confidently and influence stakeholders at all levels.

• Significant experience in legacy fundraising, legacy administration and/or in memory giving
