As Philanthropy Officer, you will be an organised and proactive fundraiser, adept at multi-tasking and working across a variety of projects to successfully support senior leaders. You will be keen to learn from senior fundraisers and implement exciting new approaches for the Sutton Trust, and bring strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
The philanthropy income team is a team of two, working closely with the Director of Development to secure and steward individual donors. As Philanthropy Officer, you will support both the Head of Philanthropy and Director of Development in their work with individual donors, including undertaking prospect research, writing briefings and compelling reports, coordinating meetings and donor visits, and maintaining accurate donor records.
The role sits in the Philanthropy team of the Development Department and is managed by the Head of Philanthropy. You will work closely with colleagues across both the Development Department and the wider organisation.
Main duties
New Business
- Undertake prospect research across the spectrum of philanthropic income in collaboration with the Head of Philanthropy - including identification, due diligence, qualification, and creating briefings and outreach plans
- Work with the Head of Philanthropy to identify and cultivate a prospect pool of potential donors, looking at lapsed supporters, current low-level donors, stakeholder network mapping through the Board and Trustees, as well as philanthropists with an active interest in education/social mobility
- Work with the Head of Philanthropy and other colleagues to implement, promote, and maintain a low-level online giving campaign, including transition of our online giving capabilities to the Trust's website, and automated stewardship activation
- Support the Head of Philanthropy to lead the Sutton Trust's approach to alumni fundraising - working collaboratively with the Alumni team in the Programmes directorate to develop and deliver a compelling alumni fundraising campaign
- Support the Head of Philanthropy to devise and implement a compelling legacy campaign, driving sustainable future philanthropic income
- Work with colleagues across the Development team to identify, qualify, cultivate and secure prospects, using resources effectively where there are links between corporates, individuals, and trusts & foundations
Stewardship and Cultivation
- Manage the Trust's online fundraising platforms, such as JustGiving and CAF, to enable smooth processes and a high-quality experience for donors, ensuring new and existing donors are appropriately thanked and have inclination to support in the future
- Be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of mid-level donors, providing excellent relationship management from cultivation to stewardship
- Be responsible for elements of the planning and delivery of meaningful engagement events for supporters of the Trust, supported by and working with the Head of Philanthropy and relevant colleagues
- Support the Director of Development and Head of Philanthropy to provide high-quality stewardship and management of the Development Board and Fellows
- Support the Head of Philanthropy to develop and deliver appropriate and high-quality stewardship journeys for segmented philanthropic giving, including producing compelling collateral, reporting, and communications that increase affinity and loyalty

Fundraising, Finance and Reporting
- Respond to queries from prospective and current donors in a warm, professional and timely manner, delivering high-quality stewardship and upholding the reputation of the Trust
- Support the Director of Development and Heads in the Development team to manage logistics of their roles - including support for booking meetings and travel, submitting expenses, and creating briefings
- Act as an ambassador for the Trust with external audiences, delivering presentations and providing expertise as required
- Work with colleagues to deliver impactful events to cultivate prospects and steward partners, with a focus on experience for individual supporters and prospects
- Work with colleagues across Development and Finance to ensure accurate forecasting, income tracking, and reporting for philanthropic income
- Ensure you appropriately follow policies and procedures on due diligence, Salesforce and data management, account management, stewardship, and reporting

Person Specification
Skills and experience:
- Experience building and managing relationships with individuals, ideally in a philanthropy team or other fundraising capacity, or in sales or other relevant professional capacity.
- Experience researching and prioritising information to drive decisions. Evidence of researching qualifying individuals, ideally to create a clear and prioritised propsect pipeline, is not essential but will help you to stand out.
- Experience working with or supporting colleagues across an organisation to make successful asks or secure a specific outcome. Evidence of making financial asks, ideally to secure major donors and cultivate new donors, is not essential, but will help you to stand out.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and tasks to successfully achieve project or other goals
- Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to write persuasive and engaging materials, and to communicate effectively with the aim of inspiring and encouraging giving
- First-class interpersonal skills - a natural relationship builder able to represent the Sutton Trust with confidence in a range of settings

We are recruiting two Research and Insight Managers; one on permanent basis and one as 12-month Fixed Term Contract.
This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you’ll need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.
About you
You’ll bring solid experience from a dedicated market or social research role, whether client-side or agency, with a strong track record of using a broad range of qualitative, quantitative and secondary research methods such as surveys, focus groups and interviews. You’ve led a wide variety of projects, including brand tracking, customer satisfaction, creative testing and proposition development, and you’re confident working across different business areas to meet a range of organisational needs.
You’re comfortable managing research from start to finish – from writing briefs and designing surveys or discussion guides, to overseeing fieldwork, conducting analysis and presenting findings. You’ve worked closely with external research agencies, managing procurement and delivery, and you know how to translate complex methodologies and data into clear, actionable insights that resonate with colleagues at all levels, including those without a research background.

- Experience of audience profiling and segmentation

About the team
This is a very exciting time to be joining Impetus as we aim to support more young people this year than ever before in our history. We are looking for a highly organised and motivated Team Administrator who is excited by the prospect of working for an ambitious Philanthropy team in a sector leading charity. In this varied role, you will have the opportunity to support a variety of different types of donor engagement, including volunteering, pro bono, and events, as well as partnership management, in particular corporate partnerships.
The Philanthropy team raises income for Impetus and for Impetus partner charities. There are thirteen members of the team who are responsible for fundraising, events, and donor engagement, as well as collaborating with colleagues across the organisation to ensure we make a compelling case to generate new financial commitments and wider support for our work. The team also delivers a high-quality engagement programme of volunteering and pro bono for Impetus’s corporate supporters. Impetus has an annual income of over £10 million which we are looking to grow to £12-14 million within the next few years.
Impetus is driven by a shared belief in tackling the barriers that hold back young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in education and employment. Alongside investing extensive financial and non-financial support in our charity partners through our Investment Team we also seek to influence decision makers to design and implement evidence led policy and direct new resources to get young people the support they need through our Public Affairs team. About this role
This is an exciting opportunity for an excellent team player with enviable administrative and organisational skills. We are looking for someone with charity sector experience who is passionate about supporting and creating efficient and effective processes to enable our team to raise more money to support more young people.
The Team Administrator is a highly professional and proactive individual with excellent attention to detail who will directly support a busy and committed team.
We will expect the successful candidate to come into the office at least two days a week as well as attending a range of fundraising events throughout the year, including two evening events and one weekend event, for which they will receive TOIL.
Key responsibilities
Team Support
- Calendar management for the Philanthropy Team, especially the Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships, including arranging external meetings for senior fundraisers.
- On-site support at events as required.
- Draft content for internal and external audiences, such as the internal newsletter, team updates or materials on programmes for funders.Manage incoming enquires quickly and professionally.
- Create and maintain efficient processes for managing and recording fundraising enquiries and information on the CRM system (Salesforce). Support room bookings when required.
Salesforce
- Be the point of contact for creating Salesforce reports to help drive fundraising activity.
- Support the logging of meeting notes on Salesforce working with fundraisers to ensure effective knowledge management and appropriate follow-up.
- Support management of Salesforce accounts, ensuring accuracy and up to date information is recorded.
- Support the creation and development of individual dashboards to help track and increase fundraising.
- Responsible for updating Salesforce database with pro bono and volunteering project information including reporting and tracking information.
Donor engagement support
- Assist with research on donors and prospects.
- Support the Pro Bono function, for instance, supporting the sourcing and stewarding of pro bono support from individuals and companies; and with the onboarding and management of pro bono partners, including inductions and ongoing communication.
- Manage the distribution and dissemination of supporter care materials and fundraising merchandise.
- Support with the preparation of templates and collateral such as presentations and donor communications.
- Proofreading of applications, reports and external communications.Write briefs for senior colleagues in advance of donor meetings.
- Demonstrate professionalism and best practice in all duties, comply with the organisation’s policies and procedures and proactively support the wider team to deliver our mission effectively.
Person specification
Essential:
- Proven experience of working in an administrative role within the charity sector.
- Excellent and demonstrable organisational and administrative skills; with the ability to work under pressure to prioritise a busy and varied workload and meet multiple deadlines.
- Experience of supporting the processing of donations and financial management systems.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision with a pro-active, positive approach and high level of initiative to analyse problems and identify solutions.
- A continual focus on improving service to donors, both internal and external.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills; with the ability to deal with people at all levels, internally and externally, in a confident, assertive and professional manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of team, demonstrated by the ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations.
- Excellent analytical and data reporting skills.
- Excellent PowerPoint and presentation skills.
- Experience of using databases, including input and extraction of data, reporting and experience in using Salesforce or a comparable CRM system.
- Excellent IT and technology skills with strong experience and/or knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Excel skills would be a benefit.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy, with experience of setting up and maintaining administrative records and systems.

Sustainable Living Project Manager
Salary: £35,500p.a. FTE
