GamCare is looking for dedicated Helpline Advisers to provide essential support to those affected by gambling-related harm.
GamCare offers helpline support through multiple channels, including our Freephone Helpline, Live Chat, WhatsApp, and other digital platforms such as forums and chatrooms. The Helpline operates 24/7, 365 days a year, ensuring support is always available.
As the first point of contact, you will offer help, advice, and emotional support to individuals struggling with their own or someone else’s gambling. As part of our award-winning Helpline team, you will work on a rotating schedule with shifts running from 7am to 3am.
In return, we will provide you with comprehensive training, regular supervision, and a full CPD programme to support your development.
About You
As the successful candidate, you will hold a professional qualification in Health, Social Care, Psychology, Youth or Community Care, such as NVQ Level 3 or above, or a Diploma in Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies, Advice, and Guidance. Alternatively, you will have demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable individuals affected by addiction harm and/or complex needs.
We also welcome applications from those with lived experience of gambling-related harm, provided they have professional experience in a supportive environment and a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation.
You will be able to engage effectively, sensitively, and with empathy when supporting callers reaching out to GamCare. The ability to deliver non-judgemental, confidential support is essential to this role.
You will also play a key role in collaborative working, engaging with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure a joined-up approach to support. Contributing to GamCare’s overall performance, you will help maintain a positive, inclusive culture within the organisation, encouraging teamwork and shared success.
Additionally, you will be committed to maintaining a strong understanding of problem gambling and will have a genuine interest in the areas of gambling addiction, treatment, early intervention, and prevention.

Do you want to make a difference by raising awareness of gambling-related harms with community groups across Greater London, to help build confidence in talking openly about gambling and support available from our service?
If so, one of the key priorities of GamCare London is to reach out to individuals, families, and communities to make it easier to talk about gambling and gambling related harms. This is done by working across the area to engage with underserved communities, to ensure everyone can access information and support.
As an Outreach and Engagement Practitioner you will be responsible for building effective working partnerships with professional services through the delivery of presentations, networking and creating new referral pathways. Your role will be integral in making the service accessible and embed support for gambling related harm across communities in Greater London.
Working hours usually are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, however, to meet the needs of the service the role might include some evenings and occasional weekends.
About you
As the successful candidate you’ll be an excellent communicator (written and verbal) and have the ability to present and tailor content for a range of professional and public audiences on sensitive topics.
You will be experienced in community-based work and have the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external, to champion our vision for gambling support in Greater London.

As a Gambling Support Practitioner, you will play a key role in helping people affected by gambling harms to make positive changes. You'll provide one-to-one and group support, both in person and online, giving people the tools and encouragement they need to regain control, repair relationships, and move forward. You will create tailored recovery plans using proven approaches to build confidence and resilience. Alongside your client work, you will also have the opportunity to help raise awareness of our services by attending community events, building partnerships, and ensuring more people know where to turn for help.

Your background in supporting people through mental health, addictions, or social care has given you the skills to build trust quickly, listen with empathy, and adapt to each person’s needs. Compassionate and resilient, you are confident in handling sensitive situations and safeguarding responsibilities, always keeping recovery at the heart of your work.
