Your mission
We are looking for an experienced, forward-thinking Head of Communications who will be responsible for the global communication strategy and ensure that key stakeholders, such as (institutional) fundraisers and marketing and communication teams in our fundraising markets have the necessary inspiring content, assets and information about our programmes. You will lead the War Child Alliance Foundation’s communications team and will also ensure there is an outstanding communications and marketing platform for our critical programmes, advocacy and scaling work. You will plan for and support the War Child Alliance internal communications processes to foster information sharing and support our People and Culture and Leadership teams.
Team
The War Child Alliance Communications team is responsible for the brand and the reputation on a global level for War Child, as well as overseeing all global and corporate communications and supporting the communications requirements of the War Child Alliance Foundation directorates. In tandem, the team also offers a robust service provision to our fundraising member network, supplying them with content, information and assets to support their communications and marketing outputs, and supports our internal communications processes across the Alliance.
What you will do:
You will report directly to the CEO of the War Child Alliance. Your key stakeholders will be those that are leading our programmes, scaling and advocacy work, global grants managers, research and development teams and the Fundraising and communications professionals operating in our fundraising markets. You'll lead, motivate and inspire a hugely talented team to innovate and adopt new ways of working in order to deliver our global communications.
You will be responsible for:
- Implementing the War Child Alliance Foundation’s communications and marketing strategy, linked to the Alliance strategy and goals, managing risks and barriers and overcoming these
- Designing and running processes with colleagues across the Alliance to coordinate comms approaches which work effectively for all Alliance members and offices.
- Managing (in some cases, developing) in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, communication guidelines and policies, content calendar, campaigning frameworks and other marketing and comm’s tools and standard operating processes that enable strategy implementation.
- Overseeing the creation of creative and inspiring content about country and global programmes, research results and scaling efforts, our advocacy work and campaigns that help to raise brand visibility and engage new supporters and donors
- Acting as an inspirational team leader, able to bring others together so that there is a sense of shared purpose and cooperation among the Alliance members’ communication and fundraising teams.
- Drawing on the benefits of international diversity and our organisational culture, bring together people from many cultures with varied work experiences and different perspectives on strategic and organisational challenges.
- Pro-actively advise the CEO and stakeholders on internal and external global communications.
- Act as a focal point in the alliance for questions regarding internal and external communications.
- Act as a communications crisis focal point and lead in crisis situations.
Your profile
- Experience leading high profile and effective multi-functional, globally focused communication and marketing teams.
- Strong critical analysis and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience of providing strategic, integrated communications and compelling (corporate) storytelling for a well-known brand.
- Proven experience and an excellent eye for content marketing, global campaign and PR possibilities.
- Track record and a keen ability in responding to reputational risks, crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally
- Intellectual and professional level at least equivalent to higher education and with a focus on a background in humanitarian affairs and development, ideally with exposure to child rights.
- Knowledge and experience of global brand identity development and promotion
- Knowledge and experience of global advocacy focused communications campaigns
- Strong ability to express skillfully in written and oral English is a must; mastery in Arabic, Dutch, French or Spanish is preferred.
- A highly networked individual, with a sophisticated network of contacts.

What we offer
- Location : Amsterdam or UK. Preference is given to applicants who reside and have valid working permits. War Child does not offer relocation or visa sponsorship.

- Salary range £62100 - £70100GBP per annum

Join our team as Director of Education, helping us to support teachers, champion great teaching and raise the status of the profession. The Director of Education will advocate for the need for a strong professional body and its importance to teachers and leaders. The role will articulate the vision and ethos of the Chartered College of Teaching and inspire and empower internal and external stakeholders and the teaching profession to achieve the vision. The role will lead the growth of three core income streams: Chartered Status, membership and funded projects, and will represent the Chartered College of Teaching externally and grow our strategic networks. The role will advise on the education content of our external communications. The Director of Education will work with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and oversee implementation of the organisation’s strategy and to lead the Education Directorate to deliver the strategy. The Opportunity

You will have overall accountability for the Education and Research directorate, including accreditation, partnerships, research, events and policy, funded projects, publishing and content and marketing and communication. Lead the growth of Chartered Status and membership; advocate for and represent the College; grow strategic networks
- Provide keynote speeches as required for the Chartered College of Teaching, building on teaching experience and practice. Attend and contribute as required at speaking events, important functions, sector events and meetings across the country
- Develop and manage senior strategic relationships with the DfE, devolved governments, other sector bodies as directed by the CEO
- Exemplify the importance of professional learning, especially sustained enquiry leading to validation e.g Masters, PhD study, Chartered routes
- Maintain detailed understanding of the wider education policy landscape and support our Public Relations dept in commenting to the media
- Lead the College’s income growth from funded projects, seeking new opportunities and work with the Deputy CEO and Director of Finance to ensure that new opportunities have robust commercial model
- Support management of relationships with funders at the highest level in partnership with the CEO and Deputy CEO
Organisational Planning & Strategy
- Work with the Executive Leadership Team to shape the organisational business plan, in partnership with Executive Leadership Team colleagues and Council, supported by a clear budget and plan for income generation
- Lead the implementation of the strategy, ensuring that KPIs are met / action is taken to course correct, and provide day-to-day guidance and long-term strategic direction for all employees within the College
- Oversee the College’s existing and new products and services, ensuring that they are of the highest standard, and are informed by research and impact evaluation
Leadership
- Advise on the education content of external communications
- Provide overall accountability and leadership in a range of areas including membership, publishing, content, research, Chartered status and other professional learning and accreditation
- Report to the Council as required and be the Executive Leadership Team representative for relevant committees, and ensure they have the reports and data needed to make informed decisions for the College
- Provide leadership and development of individuals within the team, including setting clear objectives, responsibilities, performance standards and development goals and managing these accordingly – through informal coaching and feedback and formal discussions including regular one to ones and appraisals
About You
The Director of Education will be passionate about the purpose, vision and mission of the Chartered College of Teaching, including the growth of membership and accreditation, and the importance of high-quality education and research content. You will understand the importance of the College taking a balanced position (beyond ideology) and be able to link our existing content to our members’ needs. You will have gravitas with external stakeholders and be energised by developing and maintaining strong external networks within the education sector and with new and existing funders.
You do not need to have expertise in absolutely all areas, let us decide! Experience and knowledge
Essential
- Teaching expertise - experience of working with teachers and school leaders in a range of contexts, ideally with a focus on professional learning
- Highly credible, increasingly respected profile (including in public speaking) and a strong network within the education sector
- Experience of building and maintaining strong external relationships
- Significant professional experience including a senior leadership role and interactions with board level executives or equivalent
- Ability to motivate and inspire the whole staff team to consistently deliver quality services and develop a high-performance culture
- Be future focused able to make strategic decisions and deliver capabilities ahead of business requirements as well as in response to them
Desirable
- Strong academic skills e.g. at PhD / Masters level or Chartered Teacher Status
- An appreciation of the drivers of company profitability and cost management
- Experience of financial management, risk management and strategic business planning

About this key role
As our A&E Hospital Intervention Caseworker, you will be embedded in Coventry Hospital’s emergency department where you will assess referred clients and produce support and risk management plans based on your assessments. You will promote inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process, and including appropriate agencies in the delivery of the service. You will also develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies, including hospital, police, local authorities and other voluntary organisations, and liaise closely with other St Giles teams with reference to referrals, avoiding duplication.
We will count on you to deliver a holistic support service, working solo or with colleagues as the situation dictates, where you will provide a practical service that will include social and housing support, accompanying to appointments, ETE options, benefits work and debt advice. About the role
NHM Unlocked is an ambitious programme to secure the future of our irreplaceable collection, accelerate scientific research and innovation, and enhance our public offer. Made possible by a £201 million government investment, Unlocked will build a new collections digitisation and research centre at Thames Valley Science Park (TVSP), relocate 28 million natural history specimens to the new centre, and a further 10 million to new fit-for-purpose stores at the South Kensington site, capturing digital specimen data that will make the collection available for use by researchers around the world. The programme will not only enhance the UK’s leading role in tackling urgent global challenges, but also unlock the redevelopment of our galleries in South Kensington, transforming our public offer and mission to create advocates for the planet.
The newly created and high-profile role of Project Director, Collections is a rare and career-defining opportunity to lead one of the most significant collection transformation projects in the museum sector. You will inspire and lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for collection moves, storage, datasets and systems to deliver a reorganisation of the collection, driven by collection care and research priorities, that will create the foundations for a new phase of world-leading science, discovery and public engagement. A key part of the programme’s senior leadership team, you will be central to guiding strategic and operational planning for TVSP, turning vision into reality on the build and fit-out projects, and leading the launch of the new centre through to full operation and public opening.

About you
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a background in delivering complex, large-scale projects in the museum, cultural, or heritage sectors, or in similarly dynamic environments where innovation, precision and partnership are key to success. You will be a confident manager of people, capable of inspiring and leading high-performing teams, and adept at bringing together diverse stakeholder groups to deliver meaningful change. Demonstrated excellence in resource and budget management is essential, as is significant experience in procurement, financial and risk management. Experience in delivering construction or fit-out projects, and working with large datasets and systems, is highly desirable. A genuine passion for science, culture and the role of collections in shaping the future will help you thrive in this extraordinary role.

BACKGROUND
Join us as we define a new era for The Alan Turing Institute. We are seeking a commercial, ambitious and inspirational Head of Culture and Learning to drive forward the developmental people aspects and initiatives required for the organisation to achieve its strategic objectives.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The Head of Culture and Learning will report directly to the Director of People. They will foster a positive work environment in order to develop a strong organisational culture. You will have evidential understanding of Professional Development, EDI and people practices and will balance creativity with pragmatism.
The ideal candidate will be CIPD qualified or have senior level learning and development experience qualified by practice. They will be able to influence senior management and have experience of developing coaching, mentoring and feedback skills programmes that positively impact people outcomes.
MAIN DUTIES
- Translate the Institute’s strategic objectives into actionable learning and development and cultural strategies, with clear, ambitious measurable goals and targets
- Lead, coach and mentor across the People Directorate to align with organisational goals
- Coach the management team on people, culture and development processes
- Work collaboratively with the other departmental People Heads to develop and implement learning and cultural strategies to support business objectives
- Advise executive leadership on professional development and organisational culture related matters
- Be propositional and proactive in suggesting developmental solutions to people challenges
- Lead on succession planning and talent management
- Lead on the creation and implementation of performance management processes and development planning
- Champion and embed the Institute’s EDI strategy within learning, leadership, and cultural initiatives, working in close partnership with the EDI Strategic Lead.
- Act as a senior advocate for inclusive culture, aligning learning and organisational development efforts with EDI objectives.

Terms and Conditions
This full time post is offered on a permanent basis at an annual salary of £80,000 - £85,000 plus excellent benefits, including flexible working and family friendly policies.
The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.
