Role Summary

As our Director of Philanthropy, you will play a pivotal role in accelerating the transition to a more sustainable future where everyone chooses delicious, healthy food that is good for all humans, animals, and the planet. You will define and implement the fundraising strategy for the next three years. By implementing effective giving strategies of key stakeholders in Europe and beyond, you will support their ambition to create a better world.

Your key responsibilities will include cultivating relationships with existing and new major donors, Trusts and Foundations, particularly in the areas of climate and health. You will also engage mid-value supporters and relevant stakeholders, including the corporate sector. You will lead a small global development team and support ProVeg's country fundraising strategies. Apart from several important long-term and new major donors and foundations, ProVeg International does not have a large supporter database. It will be your responsibility to identify and develop growth strategies.

The ideal candidate will be a confident fundraiser with broad experience building strong relationships with, and securing funding from, major donors/HNWI, trusts and foundations, and corporate donors within environmental or other international organisations.

Responsibilities

1. Major Gifts, Corporates and Foundations

• Identify and prepare proposals for new revenue streams (think outside the box!), with an emphasis on the climate-food nexus. This includes potential HNWIs as well as large institutions, corporates and climate foundations.

• Identify and develop processes and systems to support the growth of major-donor and foundation income.

• Identify suitable projects within the strategic plan to create the case for support for ProVeg countries and programmes, which fulfill donor preferences and foundation strategic priorities.

• Oversee fundraising events for major donors, and assist the President in managing donor relationships.

2. Management & Leadership

• Lead the International Fundraising team, setting annual goals, providing regular feedback, conducting annual performance reviews, and supporting continuous professional development.

• Mentor country-specific Fundraising colleagues and support ProVeg's country revenue-generation strategies.

3. Development Planning

• Design, develop, and implement a resource mobilization and cultivation strategy for one and three-year periods in collaboration with the President and CEO

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum of five years’ experience in senior fundraising at a non-profit, preferably with an international focus. A similar or additional corporate background would also be useful.

• Understanding of effective altruism, and up-to-date knowledge of European fundraising trends.

• A track record of identifying and securing significant, multi-year funds from donors (minimum five to six-figures), particularly new donors and foundations. 

• Significant experience in researching and developing strong stakeholder relationships, as well as experience with writing concise reports.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including confident demeanor and experience in engaging with a diverse range of high-net-worth individuals. 

• Proficient CRM skills and familiarity with fundraising tracking tools and project management

• Willingness to travel, approximately six times per year.

• Strong motivation to support the plant-based movement.

Director of Operations, Resilient Water Accelerator - WaterAid

About the Team: The Director of Operations will play an integral leadership role in the Resilient Water Accelerator team. They will lead work to establish and deliver processes, governance, funding and operations for the Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA), and to oversee its development from a start-up being incubated within WaterAid to an independent, high-performing organisation. They will report directly into the RWA's CEO, shaping and delivering the future RWA as we evolve and grow to become an established, independent, successful organisation.

About the Role:
As our Director of Operations you will play an integral role in shaping and building this new initiative, creating its governance and processes, supporting its transition from start-up to implementation and in putting it on the path to independence. The RWA currently has 11 staff, based in 6 countries, and we have plans to build the team to around 18-20 over the next couple of years, to extend our delivery from 2 countries (currently Nigeria and Bangladesh) to 6, and to secure additional financing to complement the investment we have secured from the UK Government.

This is an exciting time to join the RWA as we move from our early inception phase to implementation and delivery. We are looking for someone who wants to help us shape and build the RWA in this next phase of work. In this role, you will create and lead the business operations for the team, making sure the RWA is able to deliver its full potential.

The role will include the following responsibilities:

• Business planning: lead work on annual business planning and the development of a 5 year plan, bringing in others in the team and externally to support this work and ensure buy-in. The plan will need to show how the RWA is delivering on funders' objectives as well as demonstrating how the RWA will work with new partners and expand and consolidate its operations, funding and impacts.
• Financial oversight: manage financial activities to ensure the strong performance of the RWA, including regular financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. The Director will manage the organisation's grant awards, reporting, accounts/audits and contracts with partner organisations, including procurement. They will support the CEO and others on fundraising, and will advise teams (including those in country) on budget availability to inform activities. They will need to work with WaterAid teams on all of these areas, and ensure compliance with WaterAid policies.
• Transition to independence: work with the CEO on plans for the RWA's independence from WaterAid, setting out and analysing options and making recommendations on structure, policies, governance, financing and timing, and overseeing the smooth transition from incubation within WaterAid to RWA being an independent not-for-profit organisation. The Director will need to consider legal, financial, governance, reputational, HR and other elements, seeking relevant external advice to ensure that the transition works for both the RWA and WaterAid. They will also advise on the creation of a Board and Advisory panel, and other relevant structures and relationships.
• Programme and project management: build out programme and project management for the RWA at both a global and country level, including internal reporting, updates and management of team's resources, and risks. Provide frameworks for effective decision-making and information management - including stakeholder databases; monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL); and knowledge management.
• Operational delivery: the Director will oversee the day-to-day internal operational activity of the RWA, and will need to deputise for the CEO in internal and external meetings. This will include shaping engagement with the current Steering Committee, setting team meeting agendas and preparing papers; overseeing recruitment; ensuring reporting to partners is delivered to time and quality; keeping track of contracts; overseeing due diligence; and working with Legal teams on core documentation such as contracts, NDAs and MOUs.

About You:

• At least 10 years' experience of designing and implementing appropriate organisational and operational governance structures, ideally including some time working for a small organisation, start-up or not-for-profit.
• Financial literacy, with experience of financial management in an organisation, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
• Strong relationship management skills with a range of NGO, government and private sector partners.
• Experience of working with geographically dispersed teams.
• An organised and structured approach to work, managing deadlines and competing priorities.
• Strong communications skills with experience of preparing and presenting clear and timely information to internal and external stakeholders, and of assessing options and making recommendations.
• Able to work on own initiative, providing proactive advice and recommendations; comfortable operating with a degree of uncertainty and change.
• Ideally experience of setting up a new organisation, creating fit-for-purpose policies and helping teams to operate these.

1. Background:

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Research Commissioning Centre (RCC) has been established to commission and manage quality, equitable research at value to inform international development priorities in the UK and globally. Led by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), the University of Birmingham, and a consortium of 17 UK and global research partners, the RCC aims to commission different types of high-quality research in FCDO’s key priority areas. The FCDO is expecting to deliver 20-30% of its total research budget through the RCC within a four-year time frame (total research budget was roughly £300m in 23/24).
The RCC has been operating since June 2023, working very closely with FCDO’s research teams through an early pilot phase. The key objectives of the RCC are to deliver ‘world class’ research commissioning processes and to build and manage a coherent R&D digital platform for the FCDO. These will promote equitable and streamlined access to FCDO funding and accelerate paths to research impact. This involves addressing the challenges associated with research bureaucracy, as highlighted by the Independent Review of Research Bureaucracy.

During the pilot phase the RCC has set up early processes and mechanisms ahead of the first research commissions, which launched in April 2024. Progress has been made to develop a digital platform for FCDO research and to build an R&D brand identity. We are now recruiting a full-time Director to lead the RCC through the next four years to implement the RCC’s vision, consolidate and deepen strategic connections across the consortium and wider networks within the sector, and direct and manage teams and resources towards delivery of a ‘world-class’ commissioning centre.

It is in this exciting context that 3ie seeks an outstanding candidate to serve as the Director to lead the Research Commissioning Centre. The Director will be supported by a secretariat and will report to the Executive Director of 3ie and to the Steering Committee of the RCC (this will include representatives from the FCDO, the consortium, and externals). The secretariat will include three units; an academic delivery unit, a programme management, due diligence, contracting and finance unit, and a stakeholder engagement, communication, and impact unit, and is projected to grow to 20+ positions over the course of the next 12 months. The Director will be a 3ie employee (or seconded from their existing institution) whose terms of employment are contingent upon the FCDO project financing their position.
The position covers a wide range of responsibilities including:

• Setting the strategic direction for the FCDO RCC and its role within the broader FCDO research brand to ensure the core objectives and vision are delivered
• Leading the FCDO RCC secretariat and operations within the Centre, including effective allocation of resources to implement workplans agreed with the FCDO
• Liaising closely with FCDO Senior and Programme Responsible Owners (SRO/PRO) and research team leads to identify and respond to research commissioning needs
• Oversight of all research commissions, including ensuring access to the right academic expertise and development and implementation of world leading processes for research commissioning
• Engaging and collaborating with other UK Government R&D funders and the broader research commissioning community to ensure the RCC adopts world class, ethical, inclusive, and impactful research commissioning practices
•  Engaging with the wider RCC consortium to ensure synergies with and across partners are maximised and relationships within the network deepen, to build strategic partnerships and generate added value 
• Regular engagement with FCDO leadership and reporting to the Executive Director of 3ie and the RCC Steering Committee

2. About 3ie

The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) promotes evidence-informed equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development. We support the generation and effective use of high-quality evidence to inform decision-making and improve the lives of people living in poverty in low- and middle-income countries. We provide guidance and support to produce, synthesise and quality assure evidence of what works, for whom, how, why and at what cost.

We do so through evidence programmes, production of public goods, professional services, and support for institutional advancement initiatives. The evidence programmes include impact evaluations, implementation research, replication studies, systematic reviews, and evidence gap maps. Our work encompasses a wide range of topics, sectors, and themes, including health systems and services, nutrition, and related social sector programmes.

3ie is registered as a non-governmental organisation in the United States. We have offices in New Delhi, London and Washington, DC.

3. Role Summary:

The Director of the RCC will be responsible for the day to day running of the RCC and implementing the vision of the FCDO RCC as a leading, responsive, equitable and efficient funder and custodian of world-class, policy-relevant, and impactful research (addressing and) informing the global challenges of our time. The individual will do so through developing and nurturing the FCDO and 3ie (and consortium) partnership and oversee the strategic planning, implementation, and delivery of the FCDO RCC programme.

The ideal candidate is a visionary leader passionate about leveraging research for global development impact.

The position will be based in the UK/ London, on a remote work basis, but with regular in person interaction expected with the stakeholder teams.
 

4. Key responsibilities

4.1 Strategic Leadership and Vision:

• Define and implement strategic goals and ambition in alignment with the RCC’s vision and FCDO’s overarching research objectives
• Develop long-term strategies for scaling up research initiatives, with a focus on achieving measurable impacts on UK global development priorities
• Develop and promote culture of lessons learning and continuous improvement and innovation conducive to world class commissioning and cutting-edge research in FCDO’s key priority areas
• Report progress and strategic insights regularly to the Executive Director of 3ie and the RCC Steering Committee

4.2 Research Commissioning and Management:

• Oversee the development of the RCC operational framework, including the commissioning process
• Oversee the research commissions, from scoping and development of calls for proposals, through proposal review and selection, to due diligence and contracting
• Ensuring transparency, efficiency, and adherence to ethical standards in all the RCCs work
• Facilitate transparent and effective communication between all parties involved in the research commissioning process
• Oversight of the progress of research commissions to ensure they meet predefined objectives and quality standards

4.3 Partnership and Network Development:

• Engage and collaborate with other UK Government R&D funders and the broader research community to ensure the RCC effectively shares lessons and adopts world class, ethical, inclusive, and impactful research commissioning practices, whilst aligning and reducing burden on research where possible
• Engage with the Bureaucracy Review Reform and Implementation Network (BRRIN) led by the UK Government Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
• Strengthen relationships with existing partners in the RCC consortium through regular engagements and oversight of RCC commissions
• Engage with international research communities to exchange knowledge, best practices, and actively seek new partnerships to enhance research capacity and output
• Develop targeted strategies and approaches to capacity-strengthening programmes to enhance the skills and knowledge of RCC stakeholders to respond to requests for proposals
• Advocate for and support the principles of inclusion and equitable partnerships within all research activities

4.4 Operational and Financial Oversight:

• Lead the RCC secretariat and ensure the effective administration of the Centre’s operations
• Oversight of budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure sustainability of the Centre’s activities
• Implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential challenges impacting research timelines and outputs

4.5 Capacity Building and Team Leadership:​

• Develop targeted capacity-strengthening programmes to enhance the skills and knowledge of RCC stakeholders, including the RCC team itself, consortium partners, and the wider research institutions network. Special attention will be given to partners from the global south, to help ensure a levelling of the playing field
• Mentor and guide RCC staff, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and ethical conduct
• Lead and motivate the team to achieve high performance and meet research commissioning targets

4.6 Stakeholder Engagement, Communication, and Impact:

• Oversee the development and implementation of the strategic engagement and communications strategy for the RCC
• Oversee the development of RCC’s approach and systems for developing and tracking evidence use and impact of RCC commissioned research
• Ensure all RCC-commissioned research includes planning for stakeholder engagement and evidence uptake and use
• Contribute to thought leadership to amplify RCC’s work, reflect on lessons learned and showcase impacts.
• Regularly engage with the FCDO, academic institutions, policymakers, and other stakeholders to align research activities with broader policy goals
• Represent RCC in national and international forums to promote the RCC, lessons, impacts and innovations from the RCC

5.Qualifications and skills

5.1 Education and Work Experience

• Educational Background: Master’s degree or higher in International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies, Economics, or a related field
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in research management in international development or a related field
• Partnerships and Networks: Track record of building strategic engagement with research funders and relationships across the research network; and building and managing partnerships across geographies and disciplines
• Research Commissioning: Track record of successful research commissioning and management, including adopting and testing innovative approaches and solutions to increase effectiveness and inclusion
• Research Expertise: Experience in managing large-scale research projects and working with international development agencies is highly desirable
• Research-Policy interface: A deep understanding of the research to policy interface, including a track record of either conducting of managing research with policy impact
• Familiarity with FCDO or Similar Entities: Knowledge of FCDO’s operational framework and objectives, or experience working with similar international development organisations
• Publications and Thought Leadership: A record of publications or contributions to influential reports or thought leadership in relevant fields
• Financial Acumen: Experience in financial management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and fiscal reporting.

6. Eligibility
3ie will recruit one individual for this full-time position, with a preference for candidates who have authorisation to work in the United Kingdom. The candidate will be based in the UK and will be expected to be physically present for meetings with FCDO staff on a regular basis. Job summary
The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is a Society of over 1,700 members from 100 countries, who work in, or are interested in tropical medicine and global health.

RSTMH organises and participates in events as a crucial way of showcasing, discussing, and debating key areas of tropical medicine and global health research and practice. Our range of events are wide. We deliver conferences and webinars, social events, research meetings for early career professionals, and high-profile debates and discussions. They happen across the UK and around the world, both online and in person. Our events add to the impact of our work in tropical medicine and global health, but also raise funds to allow us to continue our work as a charity.

The Meetings and Events Manager would lead on the delivery of the RSTMH meeting and events strategy. The role requires a self-starter who is excited by the prospect of working on such a broad range of meetings and events. The candidate needs to have excellent communication and relationship building skills, and to be organised, flexible with a great attention to detail. They should be comfortable liaising with venues for meetings space, developing budgets for events, managing logistical aspects of the events programme and setting up new events online and in person.  

Main responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for the meetings and events programme meeting its financial and other goals and KPIs under the existing strategy
• Overall responsibility for the delivery of the events with a focus on expanding global reach, supporting careers, and improving the financial position

About this key role

As a valued and integral part of the Fundraising and Communications team, our successful candidate will lead a small sub-team to generate at least £500,000 income each year, including the direct line management of a Senior Fundraising Officer, who you will support to line manage the Fundraising Assistant.  We will count on you to implement effective processes and procedures across the fundraising and collaborating teams, manage and refine processes for recordkeeping and devise, maintain and update our Fundraising Handbook.

Developing and designing high-quality applications, presentations, and pitches to secure five-, six- and seven figure funding opportunities from Trusts & Foundations, Community Partners and High Net Worth Individuals is a key element of this role, as is providing excellent stewardship to existing donors.

About the role​​

We The Curious is about to enter an exciting new phase in its mission to connect and empower everyone through shared creative science learning experiences, as we prepare to reopen after two years of closure in early 2024. Our new multi-year strategy, Plan 2030, encompasses numerous major projects for which we must develop and cultivate support.​​

The Development Team is responsible for fundraising across the whole organisation and the stewardship and development of our donors and supporters. The other members of the team are the Development Manager, the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Development Account Manager. We are looking for a Trusts and Foundations Manager who is collaborative, organised and an excellent communicator to join the team to help us maximise and unlock some very exciting fundraising opportunities.​

As Trusts and Foundations Manager you will use your skills in research and persuasion to identify grants funding opportunities, establish new relationships and write and submit proposals to trusts, foundations, Lottery funders, the local authority, universities and research councils. Working closely with the rest of the team and project managers from other departments you will raise between six and seven figure sums for our programme of creative science learning and inclusion projects.​

What will you do in this role?​​

Role specific responsibilities​​

_Identify new grants funding sources, including trusts and foundations, research councils and statutory/government funders. ​​

_Prepare and submit high quality funding proposals, expressions of interest and budgets in accordance with strict deadlines and application criteria, to a diverse range of funders, for up to seven-figure sums. ​​

_Work closely with internal departmental teams to develop We The Curious projects so that they are ready for fundraising and write detailed and compelling cases for support that include timelines, budgets and evaluation and reporting plans. ​​

_Support the funding applications of other partner organisations by collaboratively drafting budgets, attending project development meetings and writing letters of support. ​​

_Support the Development Account Manager to cultivate potential funders, including attending on-site visits and events, phone calls and delivering presentations to secure support. ​​

_Support the Development Account Manager to manage a portfolio of funders including overseas relationships, fulfilling reporting and public recognition requirements, thank you letters, regular communications and other correspondence. ​​

_Liaise with the finance team to record new income and report on expenditure in accordance with funder deadlines.​​

_Support the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Development Manager in identifying new strategic opportunities and exploring new types of income stream. This may include presenting to the leadership team. Contribute to the delivery of the fundraising strategy, including proposing financial targets for grants, lottery and research income. ​​

_Work closely with the Open City Research (OCR) Manager to identify and pursue new funding opportunities for our ambitious OCR programme and work with the finance team to establish a new funding model for this activity. Support the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Sustainability and Science Director in cultivating high-value stakeholders in STEM and research sectors. ​​

_Assist in the implementation of the Development Team’s migration onto a new CRM database working closely with the Development Account Manager to customise the database for the Development team’s needs.​​

_Work with the finance team to understand our financial position and as requested by the Finance Director, contributing to key organisational financial documentation, such as the annual business plan.​​

_Manage Fundraising Volunteers supporting the administrative workload of the team and attend Volunteer Key Contacts meetings. ​​

_Attend and occasionally present at We The Curious staff meetings, exhibition launches, project meetings, project development presentations and meetings as required. ​​​

What we’re looking for from you​​

_You’ll have at least three years of fundraising experience, with success at delivering against financial targets and strict deadlines. You’ll have the ability to network, build and manage funding relationships with a wide range of funders and other stakeholders. ​​

_You’ll be confident explaining and pitching ideas to internal and external stakeholders. ​​

_You’ll have experience of working very closely with project delivery teams to develop projects, ensure they know what they need to deliver for funders and monitor their expenditure. ​​

_You’ll have excellent budget management skills, the ability to work independently and effectively and will be confident reporting on six or seven figure budgets. ​​

_You will have good understanding of the financial and regulatory environment charities operate within. ​​

_You’ll have some technical knowledge and experience at using and developing fundraising databases. ​​

_You’ll have experience and confidence in managing multiple projects simultaneously. ​​

Team

ShareAction’s Banking Standards team seeks to work with stakeholders such as banks, investors, and NGOs to make sure the banking industry take responsibility for their impact on people and planet. We have a history of campaigning on key aspects of banks’ climate strategies – such as their emission reduction targets or their fossil fuel policies – and we are gradually expanding our campaigning, research, and engagement work to other sustainability themes and banking regulation.

Position

What you’ll do (key responsibilities)

The research arm of the Banking Standards team ensures that ShareAction’s banking campaign is based on sound analyses and facts. Our Research Managers are responsible for analysing banks’ position on climate change, related industry standards, and market developments. Based on in-depth assessments, they formulate recommendations to strengthen banks’ commitments and inform engagement by investors and other stakeholders. Insights and recommendations are typically grounded in the following types of research:

• Investor briefings and short research notes reviewing climate-related commitments made by individual banks, either on a specific area of their climate strategy (e.g. in response to a new commitment) or across their climate strategy (e.g. to support a shareholder resolution or voting recommendation).
• Thematic reports and internal position papers reviewing how the European banking sector aims to address a specific issue and/or the relevant standards banks relies on (e.g. to inform engagement on new areas of work like green finance or refine existing campaign asks like fossil fuel policies).
• Banking surveys ranking European banks on their approach to climate change across are a range of themes (e.g. governance, climate targets, sector policies), in collaboration with the Financial Sector Research team.

The Research Manager is responsible for tracking banks’ commitments on an ongoing basis and ensure this information feeds into all types of research in a consistent and timely manner. This role closely collaborates with campaigners and support engagement efforts with research insights. They also lead on certain investor briefings, research notes, and thematic research under the supervision of the Senior Research Manager.

Specifically, the Research Manager leads on the following areas of work:

• Monitoring banks’ climate-related commitments on an ongoing basis and reflecting new commitments and updates in an internal database (‘banking tracker’) in a consistent and timely manner, enabling accurate and efficient uses across various research and campaigning activities. For example, the banking tracker will help streamline the pre-filling of banks’ individual questionnaires for the banks survey.
• Producing thematic research to inform ShareAction’s position and recommendations on climate-related issues. Initially, the Research Manager will conduct research on topics included in the banking survey but not covered by existing thematic reports (e.g. governance). This research will directly inform the development of the next banking survey questionnaire.
• Drafting investor briefings and similar research materials in close collaboration with campaigners to support engagement with focus banks, members of our investor coalitions, and journalists, amongst others.
• Presenting research to banks and other stakeholders including investors in meetings or webinars.
• Drafting responses to external consultations and taking ownership of consultations in specific areas of expertise.
• This role will be possibly required to line-manage and mentor one Senior Research Officer, addressing development needs and fostering their professional growth.

The Research Manager will also support other areas of work in the banking team, including:

• Delivering the banking survey (feeding into the research questionnaire, collecting data, and inputting into specific sections of the report
• Filing shareholder resolutions
• Drafting investor letters and AGM questions
• Among other operational needs (e.g. note taking during meetings)

The Research Manager will initially be contracted on a 12-month fixed term contract. We are aiming to make this position permanent; however, this is contingent on securing longer term funding for the role by the end of the 12-month period.

What you’ll bring to the team

Essential

• Passionate about climate change, sustainability, and/or the role of the financial system in addressing these issues.
• In-depth understanding of climate change issues, particularly as they relate to financial institutions and preferably the banking sector.
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to autonomously manage research projects, allocate tasks, and prioritise multiple competing priorities to meet deadlines.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative data, produce detailed reports, and summarise findings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to leverage Excel to produce research insights and/or manage data.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to convey complex information to a wide variety of audiences and build productive working relationships.

• Experience in managing or mentoring more junior members of staff.

Head of Healthy Active Children

This is an exciting opportunity to join Active Oxfordshire in a senior management position, working with a fantastic team and multiple partners across the county. The role is indicative of the growth of Active Oxfordshire and the strategic relevance of physical activity in Oxfordshire, especially for children and young people. 

About the role:

Too few children in Oxfordshire get the opportunity to be active. We work with partners to tackle inequalities so that every child and young person in the county can have the best possible active start in life. 

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Active Oxfordshire, the successful candidate will lead the development and growth of our Healthy Active Children strategic work, build relationships with partners, line manage two members of the team and ensure our Healthy Active Children programmes of work complement each other.

About you:

 You will have experience in identifying strategic opportunities and the ability to develop and nurture relationships at a senior level in partner organisations.
As an experienced line manager, you will be able to bring people together around a specific agenda and create a sense of energy and purpose. 
You will have experience in managing budgets and identifying clear priorities to manage an interconnected workload.

What we offer:

This is a fixed-term contract, initially for 18 months.  The role is a part-time position, working 3 days / 22.5 hours per week.
You will receive a salary of £27,810 (based on a 22.5 hour week, which is a full-time equivalent salary of £46,350) and benefits including a generous 10% contributory pension scheme, Cycle to Work scheme, 38 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays (pro rata) and our new bespoke Employee Support and Wellbeing Programme. 
Hybrid working is available, which means typically one day a week is in the office (Monday) with the rest of the week working remotely from home, within the community or with partner organisations.

Team

ShareAction’s Banking Standards team seeks to work with stakeholders such as banks, investors, and NGOs to make sure the banking industry take responsibility for their impact on people and planet. We have a history of campaigning on key aspects of banks’ climate strategies – such as their emission reduction targets or their fossil fuel policies – and we are gradually expanding our campaigning, research, and engagement work to other sustainability themes and banking regulation.

Position

What you’ll do (key responsibilities)

The Research Intern will primarily support the Senior Research Manager in updating, maintaining, and further developing a database tracking climate-related commitments made by the largest European banks. The commitments that we currently track include banks’ fossil fuel policies and emission reduction targets. The banking tracker is a critical source of information with multiple use cases: data collection for the banking survey and other research reports, engagement with banks and investors, and ability to respond quickly to announcements and media queries. The banking tracker was initially developed in 2021 to address specific research-related needs but has rapidly grown in size, in line with the scope of our banking research. Its use cases have also evolved in line with campaigning activities, and researchers aim to update it on an ongoing basis (e.g. when a bank makes a new commitment). Maintaining the database mobilises significant resources and further developments are needed to unlock the intended efficiencies and economies of scale across various use cases. The database is currently hosted in Excel and we are exploring alternative database management systems. The Research Intern will primarily support this effort during a 12-month internship.

In close collaboration with banking researchers, the Research Intern will contribute to the following tasks:

• Streamlining the structure of our internalbanking tracker (currently in Excel) and data collection process to ensure updates are made in a consistent manner across banks and themes (e.g. decarbonisation targets, sector policies such as fossil fuel policies).
• Developing our banking tracker to include new research themes (e.g. green finance targets).
• Integrating our banking tracker into the research process for banking surveys, ensuring that data can feed into survey questionnaires and scoring sheets.
• Strengthening the environment and infrastructure of the database to address performance issues and minimise operational errors.
• Reviewing banks’ sustainability disclosures and updating the banking tracker accordingly.

We are keen for the Research Intern to get exposure to all areas of ShareAction’s banks workstream. Depending on the team needs, the intern might be asked to:

• Support the Senior Campaigns Officer review resolutions paperwork.
• Contribute to the development of research positions that will inform the contents of our next banking survey and the more systematic consideration of climate justice concerns into our work.
• Provide ad-hoc admin and team support.

Role Summary

The purpose of the post is:

• To organise and deliver a range of on-site corporate, donor, Capital and other ad-hoc events generated by the Development department, such as drink receptions, seated dinners, backstage talks, private building tours, press nights and corporate training events. In collaboration with the Head of Events, taking ownership of, and leading on, a combination of these events.
• To assist in the delivery of all major fundraising events.
• To lead on all events administrative duties including managing the schedule of events and communicating information to internal departments, external suppliers and sponsor stakeholders.

Your Team

The Development Events Manager is essential to deliver events that support the aims of the team and organisation.

We are at a key stage in our fundraising efforts, as we continue to raise funds for our capital development, a new Backstage building adjoining the existing historical building, which will house a new studio theatre, learning centre and café/workspaces over five storeys. Ground has been broken on this exciting project and we aim to open it in 2025.

You will be joining a high performing Development team who take great pride in their work to raise income for The Old Vic. Whilst you’ll sit within the wider Development team, the events team is a busy team consisting of the Events Manager and Head of Events. Your skills will lie in organisation, teamwork, superb attention to detail and event planning and delivery.

Areas of responsibility

The Development Events Manager will be responsible for:

Event Planning & Organisation:

• Prior to a show going on sale, working with the Development team to schedule all the department’s event requirements, ensuring tickets and spaces are held in good time
• Support in organising all event logistics such as catering, drinks, flowers, furniture hire, entertainment, lighting and negotiating the best price with external contractors

• To manage relationships with clients, suppliers and internal Old Vic teams to the highest possible standards
• Ensure guest speakers are booked in, sending timely reminders and speech/briefing notes
• Approaching creative teams, The Old Vic’s Senior Management team, and cast to ensure they attend the necessary events
• Liaising with wider Development team to gather any outstanding information for upcoming events
• Completing events memos and confidently discussing them at weekly meetings

• Planning and managing all event deadlines and ensuring information is circulated and received in good time with internal stakeholders, external clients and suppliers; such as RSVPs, final numbers and dietary requirements
• Supported by the Head of Events, plan and deliver 1-2 Press Night parties a year
• Leading on the scheduling, planning and delivery of The Old Vic’s lucrative and developing Corporate Training programme, including liaison with and contracting of facilitators, external clients, caterers and Stage Team, booking space and producing schedules, while working closely with the Corporate Development officer to ensure outstanding quality of delivery.

Event Delivery:

• Attending evening, early morning and weekend events as and when required

• Overseeing the event setup, ensuring all requirements are met. Delivering the event in partnership with the Event Duty Manager and representing the Development team at events
• Being the central contact for the Event Duty Manager, Event Team, caterer, suppliers, internal stakeholders and external clients
• Managing guest arrival and confidently circulating staff and cast around the room with the support of relevant senior team members
• Corporate Training events (including offsite Corporate Training)
• To support colleagues and Head of Events with the delivery of the Backstage building’s event activity

Event Support for Major Events:

• Providing general administrative and event management support for major or ad-hoc fundraising events that may be planned. This support would include:
  • Supporting the Head of Events in many aspects of event scheduling, planning and delivery
  • Selling tickets, overseeing guest communications and marketing
  • To collate all T&Cs for the auction lots and upload copies onto external online site
  • Generating ideas for the auction and proactively making asks
  • Compiling the programme, liaising with the graphic designer
  • Working closely with the Head of Events and Producer to manage all talent communication and logistics, and assisting with the pastoral care of actors, creative and production staff
  • Organising travel, itineraries, booking tickets, and arranging accommodation as required
  • Scheduling team briefings and preparing briefing content/packs and contact sheets

Overseeing the live event lifecycle alongside the Head of Events, Producer and Production Manager; supporting the team with any requests and assistance on the day

• Post-event maintenance will include taking payments for pledges/auction prizes; sending thank you gifts and arranging debriefs
• Once the event has wrapped, the Events team continues to deliver auction prizes year-round.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Organising signatures for memento books and auction prizes
• To ensure Risk Assessments are in place for all event activity. Representing the Development/ Events team as the Health and Safety representative
• Maintaining the calendars used by the Events team to utmost accuracy:
  • Keeping the management of the Clash Calendar and Skedda system up to date with new/cultural events, holidays, etc.
  • Booking in additional events as they arise
• Booking tickets for some events and ad-hoc where necessary via Tessitura; maintaining event attendance on Tessitura
• Processing payments, raising POs and ensuring all events run within an agreed budget
• Representing The Old Vic as part of the Development Events Network; undertaking proactive steps to build industry contacts and create supportive networks with peer organisations

The Diocese of Durham is seeking a creative, proactive and relational team player with a passion for discipleship and prayer to take on a key new role in the Diocesan team.

As Missional Discipleship Enabler, you will be part of the Growing Churches Team and work collaboratively to implement the Missional Discipleship strategy, with a special focus on growing prayer and intercession throughout the Diocese.
