In this post you will manage and develop The Sanctuary and support the running of The Drop-In – two vital welcoming spaces for refugees and asylum seekers in Sheffield and those working in solidarity with them.  This role is a maternity cover for the current post holder.

• Responsible for: Drop-In Manager; Team of volunteers  

• Period of Contract: This is a temporary contract covering maternity leave for a duration of 9 months with the possibility of a 3 month extension  

• Hours of work: Part time – 0.8 FTE (28 hours a week, 35 hours full time)

• Pay scale: £31,322 per annum (0.8 FTE); (£39,152 1.0 FTE)  

• Pension: 8%

About you

We are looking for a proactive and visible finance professional who is able to engage and build relationships across the organisation as a pivotal member within a values-led high performing organisation. You will be a qualified accountant with proven track record of financial management awareness and a solid understanding of charity audits and statutory accounts preparation. You will have the ability to work with staff across the organisation in supporting good financial governance and oversight of financial operational matters. You will have the ability to analyse financial information and present this in a suitable format for the audience. You will have good ability to meet deadlines, be IT literate with an emphasis on financial systems, spreadsheets, Quickbooks and Excel. You will be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and be able to work with minimum supervision.

About the role

The role will involve the management of the day-to-day financial activities, VAT, gift aid, payroll and the monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and statutory accounts preparation. The job holder will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Finance Officer and volunteers within the team. There will be a requirement to work closely with the income generating staff, budget holders, auditors, banks and credit card providers on a regular basis. The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the Finance Officer and Finance volunteer.

The Group Volunteer Manager will report directly into the Deputy Director of People & Organisational Development.

• Confident working independently in a sole finance role, with both strategic and operational responsibilities.
• Experience building or improving financial systems during periods of change.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills — able to advise trustees and non-finance colleagues alike.
• Hands-on and proactive — comfortable processing invoices one day and presenting strategy the next.
• Familiarity with Sage (or similar) and strong Excel skills.

The Director of the CDMT plays a strategic role in performing arts training, education and assessment nationally and manages the staff and resources of an organisation of UK-wide standing. The CDMT is financed primarily by membership subscriptions. As this source of income is restricted, the successful applicant will need to demonstrate a strategic business sense and a successful income-driven record that will enable the CDMT to create, diversify and take full advantage of developing opportunities.

The Director must be able to liaise effectively with all sectors of the dance, drama, music and musical theatre education communities.  They will have wide knowledge and experience of arts education at all stages of development from entry level, through Further/Higher Education to post-graduate level, and will also require an understanding of qualification frameworks in the UK. Knowledge and experience of inspection and self-assessment mechanisms similar to those operated by the Office for Students, Ofsted and Ofqual, is desirable.

The role includes advocacy on behalf of the sector and requires an ability to offer support and advice to professional schools, conservatoires and awarding organisations as well as informing the thinking of regulators, civil servants and parliamentarians. This demands a high level of tact, diplomacy, professional understanding and tenacity as well as intellectual rigour and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of The Liberty Church’s financial strategy, budgeting framework, and forecasting.

• Manage invoices, expenses, supplier payments, payroll, tax, NI, and pensions with accuracy and compliance.

• Develop and implement policies and procedures that strengthen financial governance.

• Oversee bookkeeping in partnership with the admin office, ensuring up-to-date records through accounting systems and proper filing.

• Manage Gift Aid processes, including declaration forms and monthly HMRC submissions.

• Provide regular reports on income, expenditure, and balance sheets to leadership and trustees.

• Prepare monthly income and expenditure accounts and forecasts.

• Draft year-end statutory accounts in line with Charities SORP.

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Finance/Accounting (BSc minimum).

• 5+ years’ experience in financial management.

• Recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or working towards one preferred.

• Strong numeracy skills and the ability to analyse and present financial data clearly.

• matters relating to business registrants other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be referred to the Investigation Committee, the Registration Appeals, Committee or the Fitness to Practise Committee; 

• matters relating to optical training, education, and assessment; 

• matters relating to registration, other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be considered by the Registration Appeals Committee; and 

• matters relating to the standards of conduct and performance expected of registrants or those seeking admission to the register. 

Time Commitment and Remuneration 

This role is part time with a commitment of approximately 2-3 days per year, including time spent preparing for meetings.  Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices in London or other suitable venues.

A daily fee of £319 will be paid. This is in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule.  This is taxable and subject to Class 1 National Insurance (NI) contributions. It is not pensionable.

Members can claim expenses for travel and subsistence costs incurred on Council business as set out in our expenses policy.
