Introduction

Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is in desperate need of Grant Writers. In AHO, Grant Writers are crucial because they bring financial resources to the organization. Most of our money comes from applying for grants and tenders. Our grants come from USAID, UKAID, the European Commission, DANIDA, SIDA, NORAD, grant-making trusts and foundations, the lottery fund, etc. You will be under the supervision of Simbarashe Chifeya, our Grants Director, and AHO Zimbabwe Country Director who is based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Your first day will begin with training on grant writing. The course will be delivered online via Zoom or Teams. Our internships are virtual and can be done from anywhere in the world.

What is an internship?

• An internship is a work experience lasting for a fixed period anywhere between a week and 12 months.
• They are typically undertaken by students and graduates looking to gain relevant skills.

General Duties and Responsibilities of an Intern

The role gives an all-round experience of the business, and students can get involved in the following:

• assist with searching for grants or tenders.
• apply for grants or tenders.
• administration (e.g. emails and scheduling meetings)
• attend grant and tender writing short courses.
• help the team to work on ideas for projects and put forward proposals.
• carrying out research for your chosen project
• Write a grant or tender application.

Person Specification

Jail Time Records is a non profit record label producing the music of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists from prisons in Cameroon and Burkina Faso. We built the first recording studio inside an African prison in the Central Prison of Douala-Cameroon. Jail Time Records believes that art and creativity can be used as powerful instruments for change, integration and rehabilitation. Incarcerated populations are amongst the most marginalised communities worldwide, and particularly in Africa. The punitive justice system in place does little to help those incarcerated reintegrate into society, and society sees incarceration as a sign of stigma and taboo. In Cameroon's prisons rehabilitation programs are almost inexistent.

We bring cultural activities and programs to one of the most marginalised communities in Cameroon and Burkina Faso, the incarcerated population. Through music and visual arts we stimulate inmates and former inmates to engage positively, find ways to express themselves non violently, and find hope and trust in new ways of being. Through the work of the prisoners that we publish and promote, we help transform the way society sees incarceration.

GRANT WRITER

• Help identify and apply for grants and funds that will help Jail Time Records' sustainability. There is potential for this role to become a full-time paid position in the future.

Role Overview

We are looking for Grant Writers from across the world to help us apply for funding from major donors and development aid ogencies. The Grant Writer supports the Director for developing and writing grant proposals to trusts, foundations and other grant-making organisations such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, UKAID, EU Funding, NORAD, SIDA, DFID tenders, etc, and persuasively communicates AHO's mission and programmes to potential funders. In collaboration with the Director, the Volunteer administers the organisation’s grant management activities, including grant proposal writing, editing and compilation, submissions and follow up and prospect research. This position helps to write tenders based on instruction and detailed information from the Director, referring back for editing and final approval, leading to increased success in winning contracts and funding. Applications are welcome from any part of the world.

Purpose of Role

To identify grant and bid opportunities, managing the grant development and proposal process and to produce successful tender proposals - as well as other fundraising applications when required based on good research and excellent communication.

Duties and Responsibilities

Grant writing

• Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organisations persuasively communicating the organisation’s mission and programmes to potential funders;
• Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations;
• Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities - including deadline dates, required materials,
• Complete and submit grant applications to secure funding
• Researches and identifies potential sources of foundation and corporate grants and governmental funding.

Tender & Bid writing

• Writing tenders based on instruction and detailed information from the Director referring back for editing and final approval, leading to increased success in winning contracts
• Maintaining an awareness of contracts due for tender and taking responsibility for acquiring pre-qualification questionnaires and tender documentation
• Collating the input of disparate contributions to create a coherent and well-structured final tender and ensuring the timely submission of tenders and other proposals

Skills Required

• Qualification in any area that results in superb writing skills, including grammar, clarity and style
• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly-organised, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.

It becomes difficult for them to land their dream job as the educational system does not equip them enough on how to win the job market during their post graduation. GRANTS WRITER

Numberfit is looking for assistance researching and applying for grants and funding to help them fulfil their social mission.

Description

Numberfit is a social enterprise that makes learning maths fun and engaging for children across age groups and attainment levels. 

With this role, you will help us research, develop, and write grant proposals to various organisations. Agriculture is the primary source of income and food security for over 80% of the population in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). Unfortunately, farmers in this region face numerous challenges that significantly hinder their productivity and overall well-being. These challenges include limited access to important information, inadequate storage infrastructure, transportation limitations, insufficient financial assistance, reliance on rainfall, and a lack of opportunities for training and skill development. As a result, over 7.7 million people in the DR Congo are currently struggling with severe food insecurity.

Our organization is fully committed to supporting farmers by providing them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to enhance their productivity and meet the highest standards of quality.One of the primary focuses of our program is to offer farmers comprehensive training on the most effective agricultural practices. This encompasses guidance on soil management, efficient water utilization, integrated pest and disease control, and responsible use of chemicals. Moreover, we provide training on sustainable production techniques, such as organic farming and permaculture, to minimize environmental impact and safeguard natural resources.

GRANT WRITER

• Create grant proposals in response to open calls and develop templates for future opportunities.

Cameras For Girls aims to address the issues surrounding the lack of female empowerment, gender inequality and poverty across Africa by working with females endeavouring to become journalists and photographers in male-dominated spaces.

Cameras For Girls works with females who have either recently graduated from a Journalism and Communications program at the local university or are in the last year of studies.To get paid work, they must own a camera and know how to use it but many lack the resources to do so. CFG empowers these females with a camera to keep + a 4-phase photography and business skills training. This training is delivered both in-country and online.

GRANT WRITING

Glasgwegians unite for pets in need and their families! Do you have a background in animal welfare or human services? Do you have lived experience as a pet guardian or someone who has sought adoption in the past? Glasgow's pet families need you!

The vision for Glasgow Pet Collective is to create a social justice oriented animal welfare organisation to support Glaswegians and their pets. Our approach will be community informed and will develope innovative programs based on community need. I plan to launch the organisation, with a co-founder or two, so we can help with re-homing pets ASAP because it is a service that is in urgent need.

The role:

Glasgow Pet Collective is seeking one to four co-founders to formulate best practices, policies and innovative programs on which to build the charity. Co-founders will also help to secure charity status, apply for funding, connect with pet parents who need to rehome their dog, cat or other small animal, market pets for adoption, screen adopters and recruit and train volunteers. The scope of the founder's role will be based on their experience, expertise and interest. I anticipate 5 hours of work weekly in the intial phases of set up and would hope that at some point in the not too distant future, we can receive funding to pay for part or (hopefully) full-time staff. As a note, I am a professional grant writer so I am hopeful we can get funding sooner than later!

The problem:

Pet relinquishment requests to animal rescue / shelter organisations have increased up to 60% in 2023. Organisations like Dog's Trust, SSPCA, Cats Protection and Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home are full to the brink and are simply not able to accommodate the deluge of requests for help.

In the mean time, cats and dogs live in homes that are not conducive to either their or their human guardians' wellbeing. Cats are living in homes with co-occupants that cause them great stress, and potentially exhibiting destructive behaviours due to their distress. Dogs with separation anxiety are living in homes who cannot spend enough time with them. And humans are struggling to feed their families and their pets at the same time.

In most cases, human support services that allow the human/animal family to remain intact are the ideal response to these issues. Keeping families together highly advantageous to the wellbeing of all family members - two and four-legged. AND financial assistance, accessiblity of services and/or modifications to the home environment can solve the issues that often lead pet parents to seek rehoming services.

Pet food banks are critical to ensuring dedicated families keep their pets fed without jeopardising the needs of their human families. Training and behaviour professionals can help dogs cope with separation. Accessible veterinary care can allow families with financial constraints to keep their pets instead of relinquishing for hope of the animal getting the help they need.

About me:

My name is Caitlin Mendoza-Price. I am an animal welfare professional from Los Angeles. I spent the last 10 years working in feline lifesaving programs, fundraising and grant writing. Admittedly, the landscape and needs of animals in Scotland is largely different than the one I have built most of my expertise within. 

However, after two years in Scotland, and lessons learnt from conferences and conversations with professionals, pet parents and prospective adopters, I've come to understand that the Scotland is in great need of increased rehoming and human animal support services.
