In 1967, David Sainsbury wrote out a cheque for five pounds to establish the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. Lord Sainsbury has since given Gatsby more than £1 billion to distribute to charitable causes in fields he is passionate about, including neuroscience, plant science, development in East Africa and public policy.

Gatsby established a small team focused on education policy in England almost 40 years ago. The team’s priorities have typically mirrored and sought to address the policy challenges of the times, from addressing the uptake of engineering degrees in the 1980s to our commitment to the improvement of the nation’s technical education and career guidance systems today. While priorities have changed and evolved, our approach has been consistent: we aim to be more than a funder. We act as an enabler for projects, working with partners in designing, developing, and, in some cases, delivering activities. We take a long-term view as we do not think much can be achieved by short, one-off projects.

We believe that a strong technical education system can open up good career opportunities for young people and adults, as well as drive greater national productivity and economic competitiveness. That is why our current work is focused on supporting the implementation of technical education reforms and the embedding of a stable career guidance system in England.

About the role

Gatsby is seeking a proactive and curious Project Officer to support the delivery of work that strengthens T Level implementation and expands high-quality industry placements across England. Working in the Industry Placement Team, you will help manage grants and contracts, coordinate employer-facing projects, organise events and networks, and capture insights and outputs to inform future activity. You will contribute to developing training and support for industry placement coordinators, produce case studies and blog content, and build relationships with providers, employers and sector partners.

This role works across several T Level subject areas. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in or adjacent to further education, strong organisational and communication skills, and an enthusiasm for supporting technical education.

About the opportunity
Action Tutoring is the largest tutoring charity in the country. At the heart of our work is closing the attainment gap for pupils facing disadvantage in the UK by harnessing the power of tutoring. We are seeking an inspiring and strategic Interim Chief Executive Officer (maternity cover) to lead our growing charity, ensuring the charity continues to achieve benchmark-beating results for the pupils we support. In 2025-26, our work will reach 7,000 pupils supported by more than 80 staff and 2,500 volunteer tutors.  This role would suit someone with experience of interim senior leadership roles, wanting to make a difference in an area with proven impact on outcomes for children and young people.

The Volunteer Coordinator we are looking for will enjoy this unique opportunity to grow and develop our current volunteer work into a thriving and sustainable programme. Our large Cadbury family home with five acres of beautiful grounds is a retreat centre for justice, reconciliation and peace and, as a result of this role, will become a fantastic space for volunteers to flourish while supporting the physical place, vision and work of the charity.

‘Energy Check’ is a new project run by Zero Carbon Guildford (ZCG) as part of our Sustainable Business Network. Around 30% of Surrey’s emissions are from commercial premises, and whilst SMEs are agile, and can collaboratively make significant reductions in Surrey’s overall carbon footprint, they often lack the resource, knowledge and funding to take action. This project aims to support 30+ small businesses by providing high level energy assessments which give actionable recommendations to reduce energy use, bills and improve sustainability. 

Zero Carbon Guildford is a Surrey-based charity tackling environmental challenges with practical, local solutions that make a real difference. From supporting energy efficiency in homes to monitoring water quality and reducing food waste, we’re helping to make Guildford and Surrey greener, healthier, and fairer places to live.

This role is part of the Community Energy People project, funded by the National Lottery. 

About the Role

Job description

The Business Energy Assessor will be the sole member of staff working on this project. The role holder will be responsible for booking and carrying out high level energy assessments for small businesses across Surrey, and providing recommendations and light touch follow up support to those businesses. They will sit in the Zero Carbon Guildford team, with support from both staff and the Sustainable Business Network volunteers. 

Responsibilities:

• Provide high level on-site energy assessments and written reports with energy saving and decarbonisation recommendations to micro and small businesses in Surrey.

• Manage the booking system and be the single point of contact liaising with businesses throughout the process, from registration to post-assessment feedback.

• Follow up with businesses after assessments to provide light-touch support to implement recommendations. 

• Collate feedback and learnings from the assessment process to support developing the project in future years.

• Understand and communicate current available grant offerings and any other appropriate support available to customers. 

• Work with ZCG marketing and operations team to promote the project to potential users and the general public. 

• Report project progress to the ZCG staff team and Sustainable Business Network core team. 

Training and development

• Option to train and qualify as a Non Domestic Energy Assessor (NDEA), funded by ZCG, with 50% of training time included in the role’s hours.

• If this option is taken up, the role-holder will be contracted to either stay in the role for at least 6 months following completion of the training, or to repay ZCG the cost of the training.

BIAS’s welfare and housing advice service supports members of the local Irish community and beyond with a range of complex issues, including disability benefits, pensions, Universal Credit, Irish passports, homelessness, rehousing, tenancy sustainment and disrepair. We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic person who has a background or demonstrable interest in advice, welfare or housing to join our friendly advice team. Your role will involve contributing to the establishment, expansion and day-to-day running of BIAS’s advice service in Haringey borough, providing specialist advice on welfare and housing via one-to-one client appointments, completing casework and advocating for positive outcomes for your clients.

You will need to have strong people skills and the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, clients and partners, an aptitude for working independently, excellent organisational skills and the ability to digest complex briefs. You will be required to manage an active caseload, ensuring that cases are appropriately actioned and recorded and that deadlines are met. You will work with the Advice Services Manager to build and develop the new advice service in Haringey, ensuring that we replicate our excellent quality of service, strong record of positive outcomes and loyal client base.

KEY WORK AREAS AND MAIN DUTIES

• Providing appropriate advice, information and practical help to clients via in-person appointments, outreach visits, telephone, letter or email. Where necessary, advocating on behalf of clients in the appropriate forums.
• Ensuring that all casework records are kept up to date and completed clearly and effectively.
• Contributing to monitoring service delivery and recording client outcomes.
• Maintaining a good knowledge of other available services, and signposting or referring clients as needed.
• Participating in regular team file reviews and supervision sessions, and contributing to maintaining BIAS’s high-quality service in line with Advice Quality Standard (AQS) requirements. 
• Engaging positively and constructively with other service providers, including local authorities and housing providers, to maintain partnerships.
• Staying up to date with developments in welfare benefits and housing legislation and identifying opportunities to effect positive policy change, together with the Advice Services Manager.

These are the basic duties required of the Welfare and Housing Adviser. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and you may be required from time to time to perform other reasonable duties which are required for the efficient running of the organisation. We will also offer training opportunities to support your career development.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. This role will be based in our advice venues in  Haringey[1], with some presence required at our main office in Willesden and some options for flexible working (i.e. one or two days per week).

[1] BIAS is currently running its Haringey advice services from the Hornsey Vale Community Centre, with plans to expand into additional venues in the borough later in 2025.

BIAS is a local charity which has supported England’s largest Irish community in Brent for over forty-five years. We deliver our support through our welfare advice drop-in service, our active ageing clubs and our Be-a-Friend volunteer scheme. We raise over £2 million in extra income for the most vulnerable every year and have over 3000 attendances at our club services. BIAS has exciting plans for further expansion and has a range of medium- to long-term grant funding, including from Ireland’s Emigrant Support Programme.

Location: The position will be based in Northern Ireland and will have a desk at Northern Ireland Hospice, Belfast. This role is eligible for the Hospice UK Hybrid Working Arrangement from the start of employment.

Hospice UK’s head office is based in London. This role will have full web-based connectivity to the central office, with regular opportunities to engage with the line manager and colleagues via email, face-to-face meetings, video calls, and telephone.

Whilst we work flexibly, because we work with decision makers in Stormont, there will be an expectation that you can travel to Belfast at short notice if required.

This exciting new role in our award-winning External Affairs department will work on policy and public affairs in Northern Ireland. You will fight for the hospice sector and people who need their care and support, helping us to create a nation where no one misses out on the care they need at the end of their lives.

This will be our first on-the-ground role in Northern Ireland, providing the post-holder with the opportunity to build our influencing work from the ground up. You will have the chance to build on our work over the last three years and the strong relationships we have with hospices. You will be working closely with our Policy and Public Affairs Manager (Scotland and NI) to expand our impact in Northern Ireland.

Key aspects of this role will include:

• Policy research, development and analysis - keep track of policy and political developments in Stormont, analyse their impact on hospices and people who need palliative care and brief colleagues and hospices on this. We would also expect you to prepare succinct and influential reports, consultation responses and briefings on policy issues for a range of audiences.
• Public affairs and campaigning - plan and deliver public affairs activity to achieve Hospice UK’s strategic aims and react to opportunities to influence the political debate in Northern Ireland, engaging with civil servants, parliamentarians and other external stakeholders in Northern Ireland.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key partners and stakeholders
• Act as a media spokesperson and represent Hospice UK at external events, meetings and conferences
• Build relationships with hospices in Northern Ireland to understand the challenges they face and the context they operate within. 

It is essential that you have experience in policy, public affairs, campaigns or a related field in Northern Ireland and a good understanding of policy development and/or parliamentary processes in Northern Ireland.

We would also expect you to have excellent communication, influencing and relationship building skills and an ability to quickly read, understand and respond to complex information.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation 

Plan, film, and edit short-form videos and other content (including Reels, Stories, TikToks, YouTube Shorts) that show our services, staff, and community in action – explaining the impact of our work to patients, carers, professionals and fundraisers.

Capture photos at our Worcester HQ and at events, patient groups, or partner sites around the country.

Write and schedule social posts that match our tone and campaign goals.

Work with the wider Engagement team to generate content for internal communications and direct marketing materials.

Work with the Design Officer to produce graphics and templates for digital channels.

Repurpose patient stories, blog posts, and booklets into engaging social-friendly formats. 

Ensure all content meets accessibility and consent standards. 

Social Media and Engagement 

Manage day-to-day posting across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok, and any other relevant channels.

Work with our external social media agency to plan and deliver paid and organic campaigns.

Monitor engagement, respond to comments and messages, and ensure our online tone is kind, inclusive, and supportive.

Track performance through analytics and share monthly reports with the team.
