If the opportunity to lead and grow Shelter Scotland's Trusts & Foundations programme sounds like the kind of challenge you'd relish, then join us as a Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager. We'll provide the infrastructure, the strategy and the rewards, including flexible working. All you need to bring is knowledge of fundraising best practice across Trusts and lottery disciplines and proven experience of achieving ambitious income targets.
Shelter's Income Generation team is primarily London-based. This exciting role however, will be based in Shelter Scotland's Edinburgh office, with a reporting line into the Head of Trusts and Foundations, based in London. Collectively, the Income Generations Directorate will raise close to £40m to support Shelter's work across a diverse range of income streams, including Retail, Individual Giving, Community & Events and High Value Partnerships, which incorporates Trusts & Foundations.
The Trusts team specifically aims to raise close to £3 million in 2025-26, over a quarter of which is income from Scottish Trusts and lottery donors.
About Shelter Scotland
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet over a million people in Scotland struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction.
So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter Scotland we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter Scotland and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the role
Your challenge? To act as an external face for the charity and meet agreed annual and long-term financial targets by cultivating high value partnerships with UK and Scottish grant-makers to fund Shelter's work in Scotland. You'll also work closely with our Directorate Leadership Team in Scotland to develop compelling and strategic funding propositions and ensure the high quality stewardship of all Trusts and lottery donors.
Finding opportunities to deepen partnerships and secure new grants that could transform our income base will be important too.
You will also line managing a Fundraising Manager and foster a collaborative and results-focused working ethos by providing effective management and support to them.
About you
With a proven track record of securing five and six figure gifts from Scottish high value Trust donors, you will be comfortable working towards ambitious income targets. You'll demonstrate strong commercial awareness and good knowledge of the Trusts market in Scotland. You'll also need the ability to quickly develop an understanding of how to position Shelter as a partner for major grant-makers. Adept at building and managing complex and high-value customer and internal relationships, you will have some line management experience too.
This is a senior role within the Trusts team so you will be expected to contribute to shaping the strategy and direction of the Trusts team in general and lead specifically on the Trusts fundraising strategy in Shelter Scotland.
You will need to be proactive, creative and innovative, with the ability to respond positively to change and a willingness to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas when appropriate.

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions.
Degrees’ programmatic work is centred on capacity-building through research grants and North–South and South–South collaboration schemes, outreach activities, and cross-cutting community building. As part of this, Degrees runs workshops in the Global South that bring new voices into the SRM conversation, and our research funds support scientists and other experts in developing countries as they research what SRM could mean for their regions and become part of a global research community.
The Administrative Officer role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to help scale up the organisation’s work, building on the successes of the last decade, and to help the most climate-vulnerable countries make up their own minds about SRM.
Joining a growing team, the Administrative Officer will support the Policy Engagement and Programmes teams through the provision of administrative services to ensure the efficient organisation of, execution of, and participation in events. Secondarily, the Officer will provide general administrative support to the Policy Engagement team.
The Administrative Officer will work under the supervision of the Policy Engagement Director, while supporting the Policy Engagement Managers and the Programmes team. Responsibilities will include:
- Arranging travel, lodging and other travel logistics for Degrees staff, funded scientists, policymakers, and other external participants;
- Managing the policy engagement events budgets;

- Scheduling staff and other meetings;
- Supporting processes for this new team, including aspects of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL);
- Maintaining the list of external policy engagement contacts;

Who we are
St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity is a UK-wide homelessness charity. We fund a range of projects across the UK, providing innovative services within healthcare, legal advice and mental health support to facilitate a long-term transition out of homelessness. We work to prevent this situation from happening in the first place. When it does happen, we provide emergency financial assistance that can transform the lives of those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them find and keep a safe place to live and call home.
Our Values
We put... people first
We value those we work with, seeking out and listening to all voices to understand how we can work together to make sure anyone experiencing homelessness is moved into a safe home with the necessary support in place.
We are... a learning organisation
We reflect on what we learn, act on the evidence, and share learning with others.
We work... collaboratively for change
We build relationships based on trust and shared vision.
Trusts and Foundations Manager
St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity (SMITFC) is looking for a strategic, relationship-driven Trusts and Foundations Manager to help shape the future of our income generation from charitable trusts and foundations. This is a pivotal role within our Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations Team, working to ensure that we not only maintain but significantly grow our sustainable income streams in support of people experiencing homelessness and extreme vulnerability.
Working alongside the Philanthropy Manager and Prospect Researcher, this role will be responsible for identifying and securing new 5-6 figure+ gifts, maintaining and deepening engagement with our existing funding partners and developing a pipeline of future funding opportunities designed to spread risk and build for a reliable, realistic income growth over time.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Work with the Head of Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations (P&TF) to develop the Charity’s Trust and Foundations growth strategy ensuring it maximises sustainable net income from both general and restricted Trust and Foundation funding sources, diversifies income and starts to spread income timelines away from a reliance on our Christmas appeal period.
- Work collaboratively across the charity to acquire an excellent knowledge and understanding of SMITFC values and programmes, to inform the creation of bespoke donor materials, cases for support, funding proposals and reports.
- Lead on the creation and submission of bespoke proposals and reports to existing Trusts and Foundations, maintaining accurate development and submission deadlines and excellent records of progress and outcomes on CRM.
- Lead on the cultivation and maintenance of strong relationships with existing funders and trustees, identifying opportunities for key decision makers to become active and engaged in the Charity’s activities, whilst gaining a greater understanding of a project’s long term aims and consequent impact.
- Work in collaboration with the Prospect Researcher to develop a pipeline of new 5-6 figure + Trusts and Foundations prospects able to give within the next 3 years.
- Lead on the bespoke stewardship and engagement of newly identified 5-6 figure + Trusts and Foundations prospects and ensure that submission deadlines are met, and reporting schedules observed.
- Work with the P&TF team to deliver our annual Christmas Appeal – to include the development of the P&TF Christmas Appeal 2025, deliver the annual Christmas Appeal Launch event, and optimize the use of social medial and other platforms to reach potential new funders over the Christmas period and beyond.
- Work with the P&TF team to develop the high value offering for the 100 Anniversary appeal 2026.
- Ensure that resources and budgets are managed effectively and provide Trust and Foundation fundraising financial information as required by the Head of P&TF – including contributing to income risk assessments, identifying gaps or shifts in funding and support contingency planning with the wider P&TF team.
- Ensure accurate records of funding opportunities, donor contact details and prospect research are maintained across CRM and finance systems.
- Work collaboratively with SMITF partner charities to align stewardship, donor asks and maximise income.
Our Team: We are friendly, ambitious, creative bunch, who value and maintain relationships of trust and transparency with our donors. We all work flexibly between home and the office but love to come together to plan, get creative and enjoy some lunch in the Crypt at St Martins Church.
