Role Overview
We are seeking a Secretary / Trustee to join our board and ensure strong governance. The Secretary will help the charity meet its legal and regulatory responsibilities while supporting the delivery of its mission.

About Refugees at Home

We are a leading provider of hosting with an annual income of £1 million, dedicated to the prevention of homelessness for those claiming asylum or with Refugee status by offering temporary placements within our volunteer hosts homes. We recruit and support volunteer hosts who are willing to offer a temporary home and a helping hand.  Our role is to carefully match each guest and host, to assess and prepare them ready for hosting, to advise on hosting arrangements and accommodation, and to provide ongoing support to hosts throughout each stay. We provide support to our guests across all four nations of the UK and to date have provided over 700,000 nights of accommodation. 

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Fundraising professional to join our Board of Trustees. We are open to the type of experience candidates may posses and recognise the importance of transferrable skills.

Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this post will provide support to the Schools, WASH and Solar projects implemented by the NGO. The successful candidate will work within a combined national and international team to assist in the development of projects, from initial planning stages to final evaluations.

Primary responsibilities include the writing of donor reports and proposals, providing additional support to the project team surrounding project management, and monitoring and evaluation. The role is predominantly office-based with some bush travel. The diversity of activities undertaken will provide a wide-ranging experience for an early career development professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development. It is essential that the post holder is able to work in English to a high standard and it would be desirable to have at least basic French. Duties and Responsibilities:

● Write project reports, to a high standard of English, that clearly demonstrate the successes and challenges of the WASH and Education infrastructure projects, learning from the project and providing clear budgetary information

● Compile funding proposals based on past evaluation, team discussion, and international best practice in an engaging and professional manner

● Conduct internet searches and searches through SEED’s funder database for potential donors to fund projects

● Take a leading role in gathering statistics and ensure that all existing statistics relating to the projects are accurate

● Work alongside the Communications and Media Officer writing regular social media updates, blog posts, and website copy

● Support the development of projects that fulfill local needs and sit within the aims of SEED, taking into account research findings, contextual constraints, government objectives, and SEED’s previous experience

● Conduct research into international best practice with regard to Solar, Digital Learning, WASH and Education infrastructure programmes and take the lead in discussing these with the team

● Monitor and update project trackers according to project activities, ensuring the project is on track to meet project indicators and objectives

Person Specification

● Hold an undergraduate in or relating to WASH, international development, or have transferable skills or equivalent experience

● Minimum of 1-3 years’ professional experience in securing funding, project management, donor compliance, and donor reporting

● Demonstrate excellent writing skills, previous experience in grant-writing is an asset

● Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in Environment and Sustainable Livelihoods, Community Health, WASH and Education Infrastructure, and their interface with international development; previous experience in WASH, Solar education, or community-based work would be an asset

6. Support the development of projects that fulfil local need and sit within the aims of SEED taking into account research findings, local needs and constraints, government objectives and SEED’s previous experience

About the Organisation

SEED Madagascar is a British Charity working in partnership with communities in the southeast of Madagascar. We integrate high quality community health, sustainable livelihoods; education infrastructure and conservation programmes to support long term, sustainable change and add to international best practice through research and publication across all of our programmatic areas. What is the plan?

The person who is starting the charity up is autistic, has ADHD, CPTSD and also multiple physical conditions that effect daily life and is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has faced a lot of issues in life because of these things.

Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. It is not easily defined but we hope the charity objects below will help put context to what we want to achieve, what we can say is that below are the issues we are trying to address, how we do this will change as quickly as society does, but the issues we want to tackle are these:

3) Limited employment, training and education opportunities

4) Lack of support during times of crisis or need

5) Lack of equity and agency for many people in society

6) Institutional discrimination that is not challenged

Who are we?

Well, it is a small operation at this point, there are three people that are working to set up the charity, but we are all neurodivergent and have disabling aspects to our lives and experienced lack of opportunity or presumed ideas based on others perception of us. We are just people who care in reality and want to make a true change in society for everyone we work with.

Where are we now?

We are ready to become a CIO; we want to go straight to a fully incorporated charity so that we are able gain the most support as possible and open up opportunities for growth from day one as well as ensure people know they can trust us.

We need 3 trustees to start and understandably, two of us don’t want to be trustees due to personal reasons, so we need at least another two, maybe more, trustees to start up. That is hopefully where you come in!

We have our governing document, and we are still completing the further documents we want to launch with. We hope that new trustees will add to the plan and bring fresh ways of us working and how communicate the message of the charity.

The charity objects

So, who are we looking for?

The answer to this is complex. What we are looking for in a trustee is someone who is passionate about creating equity for everyone while sustaining equality, someone that has lived experiences that would mean they can relate to the objects of the charity, whether that be personally, as a support for someone that does or has struggled to be given equity in society or someone that works or has worked in an industry that has played a part in restricting others in society and want that to make real change.

We think this covers a large number of people.

The role of trustee in Living Reasons will always be a remote role, meetings will be held online as standard as we would like to have trustees that are from all areas of the UK and that anyone can be a trustee, regardless of any accessibility requirements.

Additionally, to the personal experiences, the below are also necessary for all trustees of all charities:

The requirements of skills and understanding of the undertaking of trusteeship with Living Reasons:

1) Being a trustee comes with requirements and responsibilities in terms of acting in the best interest of the charity at all times in line with the law and the charity’s governing document, which will be supplied to all trustees before agreeing to be a trustee and will be discussed with any person selected to be a trustee before they agree to be a trustee.

2) An understanding of financial information is required, this is to ensure that financial reports are assessed correctly and that any anomalies are highlighted, this does not mean you need to have in depth accounting or finance experience by any means, but it is important that you are able to analyse financial reports and risk as they arise.

3) Specific to Living Reasons, you will need to be someone that thinks creatively and is not scared of challenging traditions and pre-existing ideas and open to hear from a wide audience to make informed but innovative changes that are sustainable, realistic but also dynamic and challenging the current societal norms.

The Stuart Hall Foundation is inspired by the life’s work of Professor Stuart Hall in the interlocking worlds of activism, academia and the arts. Hall’s work was characterised by its breadth and its interdisciplinary nature, spanning across cultural studies, media theory, political analysis, and the study of race and identity.

We are looking to appoint a new Chair who has a demonstrable commitment to the Foundation with the ability to lead and manage a unique and growing national charity. 

The Chair has responsibility for providing oversight, shaping strategy and working collaboratively with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees to further develop the organisation’s vision for the next three to five years. Responsibilities

The role of the Board of Trustees is to receive assets from our partners and donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Causeway. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of the charity, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility.

Specific responsibilities as Treasurer and Chair of FAR

· To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document and its own financial rules, charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation or regulations.

· To ensure that adequate financial procedures and controls are in place and that the organisation operates within a sound financial framework.

· To advise the Trustees on the financial implications of their strategy and policy objectives, and ensure appropriate financial risk management and reserves policies are in place.

· To lead the creation and chairing of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and to attend the Remuneration Committee.

· In association with the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Finance, to ensure that all financial dealings are properly accounted for, including grants and restricted funds.

• Prepare concise reports, briefs, and dashboards to share insights with the CEO and COO.
• Support strategic projects such as pitch decks, grant applications, and partnership proposals by contributing research-based insights.
• Monitor industry news, conferences, and innovation clusters to identify opportunities for Kimedes.

Requirements

• Strong analytical and research skills, with ability to process and synthesize information clearly.
• Familiarity with market research methods and business intelligence approaches.
• Interest in climatetech, water management, or smart infrastructure.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setup and deliver on agreed timelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English (Spanish/Catalan a plus but not required).
• Bonus: Experience in competitor analysis, trend reports, or academic/consulting research projects.

Every day, The Shakespeare Hospice makes a difference to the lives of local people living with a life-limiting illness, and to those who matter most to them.  We are now seeking a new Trustee to help us shape the future of this vital work.

Based in Stratford upon Avon, we offer services across South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas.  Our aim is to ensure that people living in our community with a life-limiting illness, and their family and friends, are supported with the care and compassion they deserve.

We are now looking for a new Trustee who shares a passion to serve our community and who can help us ensure that we are able to deliver our services today, tomorrow and for always. This is a voluntary role, working alongside fellow Trustees, the Senior Leadership Team and our Chief Executive to ensure the Hospice continues to thrive in today's challenging environment.

We welcome applications from individuals who can bring professional expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Fundraising strategy and donor engagement
• Corporate partnerships and sponsorship
• Charity retail
• Trusts and foundations

Strong local connections in Stratford upon Avon and the wider area would be especially valuable.

As a Trustee, you will bring your professional insight to provide oversight, challenge and support.  Just as importantly, you will share our Hospice values: compassion, community and commitment.

The time commitment is around one day per month, including four Board meetings, at least one strategic planning day, the AGM and participation in one of our committees.  Trustees also enjoy attending Hospice fundraising events and engaging with our local community.
