About the Opportunity
We are looking for an inspiring and strategic leader to join our People Directorate Leadership team as the Head of Involvement at Alzheimer’s Society. This pivotal role will focus on deepening our understanding of the lived experiences of those affected by dementia and driving the development and delivery of our Involvement Strategic Plan. You will empower people affected by dementia, co-producing initiatives, and sharing their invaluable experiences, ensuring inclusion and equity in all aspects of our work.

The Opportunity:

This is where this new role comes in: The Head of Fundraising will play a crucial role in supporting the stewardship of the current donors while also securing the vital resources needed to realise our bold ambition and help us transform the lives of millions of young refugees and conflict affected youth across the globe.

You will be part of leading a growing and changing organisation, and will work closely with Amala’s two Co-founders and the Fundraising Manager to develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy, cultivate and deepen key donor relationships and boost our income growth from our current £800k towards our £3 million target by 2027, driving the financial sustainability necessary for Amala’s continued growth and impact.

Who we are looking for:

A strategic, entrepreneurial and ambitious senior fundraiser with a proven track record of securing significant UK and international funding (£1m+ annual income generation), developing high-impact strategies, and building strong donor relationships. You will be an inspiring leader with exceptional people management skills, with experience in leading growing organisations, and who enjoys the strategic side of the role as well as having a hands on approach. 

The role would be best suited to someone who is committed to making a difference to the lives of young refugees, with a strong grounding in international charity sector fundraising. and international funding.

Essential experience:

• Proven experience in a senior fundraising management role within the non-profit sector, ideally within international development.

• A proven track record of success in fundraising, particularly in developing and executing complex fundraising strategies for a growing non-profit organisation.

• Experience developing and implementing multi-year income generation plans.

• A strong history of securing six-figure, multi-year grants and contracts in the UK and internationally, with an annual income generation of £1m+.

• Senior-level experience managing relationships with multiple, diverse funders and donors.

• Experience writing successful partnership bids, grant proposals, cases for support, and theories of change.

• Experience in leading change in a growing organisation.

• At least three years of experience leading and managing a team, with a track record of developing and supporting staff.

What we offer:

This full time, fully remote position offers a salary of £50,000-55,000 if you are a UK resident. If you reside in a different location, the salary will be adjusted accordingly. As the Head of Philanthropy, you will inherit a successful philanthropy area of fundraising for the organisation and will devise and implement a comprehensive strategy to build income from individuals across the full suite of structured giving schemes. Do you have experience in generating and sustaining charitable giving from individuals and nurturing a Friends scheme in the Arts education sector? Are you passionate about choral singing and its power to change the lives of children and young people and can you successfully advocate on our behalf to potential major donors?

The primary focus for the new role is to generate sustainable charitable giving from individuals, maintaining and growing our Friends memberships and developing significant income from major donors. We are a leading choral singing organisation and run residential summer courses for children and young people. Our artistic director, Ralph Allwood, founded the organisation 45 years ago, since when over 10,000 young people have benefited from our life-changing courses. Nowadays, around one third of students receive generous bursary support to attend a course and we also work with a range of partner organisations to encourage even more young people from diverse backgrounds to take part in our choral singing courses. We want to secure the future of the organisation and increase the number of students we can support by significantly growing our individual  giving.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to work up to 2 days per week on a freelance basis to help us move up a gear or two in terms of our fundraising, specifically to develop private giving from our extensive alumni network and the many successful individuals who feel music education at a young age made them the person they are today.

About this role:

The main duties and responsibilities for the Heads of Development role are as follows:

INDIVIDUAL GIVING

· Maintain and build relationships with our donors, and identify new individuals who would like to see the Rodolfus Choral Foundation thrive

· Use our extensive alumni list to source and maintain donors

· Use contacts from the artistic director and trustees to generate new donors

·  Ensure that our top and potential donors are well looked after and researched, passing on key information to the Artistic Director and, where appropriate, arranging meetings between him and our donors

· Organise and co-host special donor events in unique venues

· Help establish a legacy giving scheme for Rodolfus

· Have overall responsibility for reaching individual giving targets

· Develop a five-year Fundraising Strategy

· Set ambitious but achievable targets for each year, within the overall Rodolfus budget

· Produce a fundraising report for the annual accounts, identifying strengths, weaknesses and areas for development in the Fundraising Strategy

TRUSTS AND GRANT-MAKING BODIES

· Liaise with the General Manager to ensure a coordinated fundraising plan and targets, in keeping with the artistic vision for Rodolfus

· Proof and submit applications and be the point of contact for Trusts and Foundations (this work is currently supported by the General Manager and a fundraising consultant)

GENERAL

· Attend Team and Board meetings as required

· Be a passionate advocate at all times for Rodolfus

· Adhere to all legal requirements relating to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as all other company policies and procedures

Overview:  

Spires supports homeless and vulnerably housed people in South London. Spires has undergone a period of rapid transformation, moving to a model of multi-site working across three London Boroughs. Our core services include, day centre style drop ins for homeless people, a Women’s drop in, a Refugee drop in and outreach targeted at supporting Women who are sex working.  
 
The Head of Fundraising and Communications will be joining the organisation at an exciting time. Recent successful funding outcomes provide a short period of relative funding stability and an opportunity for the post holder to develop our communications and community fundraising strategies.

Part 1:  Job profile 

 
1.1 Purpose of job 

To generate income from a diverse funding pool that includes trusts and foundations, legacy and individual giving, community giving, government contracts and corporate support. Trusts and foundations remain the primary funding source for Spires so maintaining consistent application output is a core element of the role.

Oversee Spires’ external relations and public profile. The post holder will be responsible for all communications and will look for areas to increase the organisations profile.

Work with Spires CEO and the Head of Client Services to ensure that data and outcomes are being effectively captured in a way that is helpful for evidencing impact.

1.2 Position in organisation 

The post holder joins Spires’ Senior Leadership Team and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The post holder will join the finance, fundraising and risk subcommittee which includes members of the board of trustees.

The post holder will manage the Communications and Community Engagement Lead who currently leads on community fundraising, social media and volunteer recruitment.

Part 2: Key duties and responsibilities 

2.1 Management Responsibilities 

• To manage the fundraising/communications staff and volunteers.

• Hold and record regular staff supervisions.

• Ensure that Spires’ policies are adhered to.

• Attend Spires’ managers meetings.

2.2 Income generation  

• Maximise existing and find new income to meet agreed income targets. 

• Research, write and present attractive propositions for a range of quality funding bids, proposals and documentation. 

• Produce and submit quality funding reports to meet deadlines.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fundraising regulations, networks and developments across the sector, advising on best practice 

2.3 Planning, monitoring and reporting  

• Contribute to the internal planning and budget setting, setting out clear plans for income generation. 

• Contribute to forecasting and regular reporting, producing verbal and written reports for the CEO and Board of Trustees. 

• Actively manage contracts to ensure that Spires is delivering agreed outcomes and spending restricted funds correctly.

2.4 General 

• Review and update the fundraising strategy.

• Undertaking other duties compatible with the level and nature of the post and/or reasonably required by more senior members of staff, including session cover 

• Attend and participate in staff and team meetings and other meetings as required

Part 3: Person specification 

3.1 Essential experience 

• Experience of working in the fundraising sector in a professional capacity 

• A demonstrable track record of successfully generating income and achieving targets 

• Producing impact and evaluation reports for funders

• Writing for different audiences/contexts 

3.1.2 Desirable experience 

• Working in the homelessness or social care sector 

3.2 Knowledge 

• Understanding of the principles of effective fundraising 

• Understanding of the principles of effective marketing, communication and diverse donor motivations 

• Good financial acumen, including being able to produce budgets and forecasts.

3.3 Essential skills and personal qualities 

• Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Part 4: Summary of terms and conditions of service 

Location: The postholder will be an employee of The Spires Centre. This post is based at 2nd Floor, Elmfield House, 5 Stockwell Mews, SW9 9GX This role will by hybrid with three days in the office and two days from home.

Probation: This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.

Notice: This post is subject to an 12 weeks’ notice period once confirmed in post. 

Annual leave: The annual leave entitlement is 35 days per year including 8 bank holidays. 

Pension: The Spires Centre will contribute 5% of annual salary for those who qualify for our group pension plan. 

Other benefits: The Spires Centre will provide life and income protection insurance for those who qualify for our group plans.

Expenses: This role will require travel within the UK/London. Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid when incurred in accordance with our expenses policy. 

Safeguarding: The postholder will adhere to The Spires Centre’s safeguarding policy for vulnerable adults.

DBS Check: Because of the need to interact with our vulnerable clients a satisfactory  enhanced DBS check will be required. 

Luminary Ltd provides training, employment and community to some of the most disadvantaged women in London. We use baking as a tool to guide women towards employability and independence. We work alongside women who have experienced gender-based violence and live with ‘multiple disadvantage’. Our primary focus is helping these women achieve employment and reach independence - breaking the cycle of poverty, violence and disadvantage.

How we achieve our Mission

Over our two-year programme, women learn to bake, gain a catering qualification and develop transferable skills such as budgeting, interview techniques and resilience.  Women gain valuable work experience through our sister organisation, Luminary Bakery, as well as being paired with a volunteer mentor who helps her develop her career next steps.

Luminary consists of two entities working towards a shared purpose.

Luminary Ltd is a registered charity that provides training and support programmes for women who have experienced violence and disadvantage. Luminary Limited runs the Employability Support Programme, offering training, mentoring, and trauma-informed guidance to women on their journey to independence.

Luminary Bakery Ltd contributes to Luminary’s social impact by offering work experience placements, apprenticeships, and job opportunities for graduates of the charity’s training programmes. Luminary Bakery produces beautiful, artisanal baked goods and is working toward generating sustainable income to fund the charity.

The role you are applying for is with Luminary Ltd (LL), the charity arm of Luminary. While our charity and business work closely together, LL is the employing entity for this position.

The role
Luminary is entering an exciting phase in its development, transitioning from a small, founder-led start-up into a medium-sized charity. Over the past two years, we’ve experienced growth in our income, primarily through trusts and foundations. Building on this momentum, and with generous support from Comic Relief, we are now recruiting our first in-house fundraiser.

Location: Hybrid (3 days based on Luminary site and 2 days from home)

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Contract: Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) 

Reports to: Luminary Limited CEO

Key Responsibilities: 

• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to define and meet annual income targets from various income streams, identifying opportunities for income growth. 
•  Research, identify and apply for grants and funding opportunities from trusts and foundations, and corporates. 
• Research, cultivate and manage relationships with prospective funders and individual donors. 
• Develop compelling funding proposals and pitches.
• Support the development and delivery of a communications strategy to support fundraising.
• Organise and support fundraising campaigns, events and initiatives to engage donors and stakeholders. 
• Monitor and report on fundraising performance, agreeing realistic targets and taking steps to maximise Luminary’s funding opportunities in order to fulfil financial targets.
• Take an active role in the Senior Leadership Team to ensure efficient management of the charity and attend quarterly Trustee Board meetings.
• Stay up-to-date with trends and best practices in fundraising, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Essential:

Due to the role responsibilities, it is a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the post holder is female, permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010

Five years + experience in fundraising contributing to strategy as well as delivery.

Demonstrated  success in fundraising  with a proven track record of securing significant income from trusts and foundations, and/or major donors and corporate partners.
Skilled in relationship-based fundraising with experience of donor cultivation and stewardship to secure long-term partnerships.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop compelling funding proposals, persuasive pitches and impactful reports.
Experience in financial planning including creating and managing budgets, and financial analysis skills to track and report income performance.
Strategic and innovative thinker able to identify, assess and pursue new funding opportunities aligned with charity goals.
Highly organised, self-motivated and proactive with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
A genuine passion for Luminary’s mission, with a strong commitment to empowering women and creating social change.

Desirable:
-Experience in individual giving.
-Knowledge of social media strategy and experience running successful social media fundraising campaigns.
-Familiar with CRM systems.
-Experience of working with a communications team or agency.
