The role
The research communications and engagement team at Breast Cancer Now makes breast cancer research accessible and engaging to everyone. Its aim is to highlight the value and impact of research and build continued trust and support for the charity.
You'll use your science communication expertise to bring our research to life. You’ll create content covering Breast Cancer Now’s research aims, progress, and achievements for a variety of channels including our social media, website, fundraising and print publications. You’ll work with members of the brand, marketing and communications teams, and digital teams to make sure research content is engaging and drives brand awareness and support.

Primary location of role and hybrid working
This role is primarily based in our Cardiff/Glasgow/London/Sheffield office. However, our hybrid working model allows full-time staff members to work up to 3 days per week at home.

It’s an exciting time to join the Fund with our new strategy ‘It Starts with Community’ and our new and ambitious 3-year Corporate Plan. We have an opportunity for a Head of Strategic Planning to join our team. The role reports to the Chief Finance and Resources Officer, in the Finance and Resources directorate. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic PR and marketing professional in our London fundraising office to design and deliver creative, multi-channel, integrated fundraising and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.

Main responsibilities:
Fundraising

Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will:

Work on the development of technical frameworks, guidelines, standards, certification or audit processes relevant for implementing regulation for children’s rights in the digital environment at international, EU and UK levels. This includes representing 5Rights in technical meetings and working groups, such as at the IEEE and CEN-CENELEC.

Work to promote and support the uptake of these standards by the tech industry, including by working with industry associations, chambers of commerce and tech companies directly.

Lead our work to gather technical evidence on company compliance with regulation for children in the UK and EU.

Identify cases of non-compliance, develop argumentation and engage with companies and regulators for remedy, with legal support as necessary.

Work to promote compliance, by supporting public accountability for non-compliance and positive visibility of best practice.

Lead our work to raise awareness and stimulate action of industry stakeholders, notably advertisers and investors.

Liaise with technologists and experts around the world, exchanging knowledge and staying up to date on the latest developments, research and emerging issues.

Oversee the 5Rights Research Officer, research projects and evidence-gathering programmes.

Draft briefings for Executive Director and policy leads.

Person specification
You’ll be a confident and skilled researcher, a clear, fresh thinker, and an excellent writer. High attention to detail, an eye for nuance, and the ability to digest complex information quickly and communicate it coherently are all musts. A background in technology issues or children’s rights is preferable, but not essential. Most of all, we’re looking for someone who’s thorough, proactive, super smart, and committed to our mission.

Remuneration and details

In this role, you will play a vital part in the RCOG’s mission to improve the lives of women and girls around the world, through the delivery of creative communications campaigns and high-impact media stories. You will enjoy building and managing relationships with stakeholders to deliver opportunities for partnership working – including national health organisations, other Royal Colleges and women’s health charities. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will line manage our Senior Media and Communications Officer and work closely with colleagues in our policy, public affairs and marketing teams to help ensure the College’s external affairs work is integrated, coherent and impactful.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of our annual media and communications plan, including priority campaigns in partnership with marketing, policy and public affairs colleagues
- Oversee our busy press office, ensuring we maintain strong media relations and are achieving high impact coverage on College priorities
- Deliver proactive external communications to promote awareness and impact of RCOG programmes, projects and products
- Ensure we are effectively using our social media and digital channels to listen, engage and influence, including production of videos, podcasts and webinars, etc.

SPANA - The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad is the global charity for working animals in low-income countries. Since 1923, we have supported the welfare of working animals, including donkeys, horses, camels and elephants, in communities that depend on working animals for water, transport, agriculture and their very survival. The Head of Global Operations is a key member of the Global Resources Team, responsible for professional business support at both a strategic and an operational level across the organisation.
