BACKGROUND

Join us as we define a new era for The Alan Turing Institute. We are seeking a commercial, ambitious and inspirational Head of Culture and Learning to drive forward the developmental people aspects and initiatives required for the organisation to achieve its strategic objectives.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The Head of Culture and Learning will report directly to the Director of People. They will foster a positive work environment in order to develop a strong organisational culture. You will have evidential understanding of Professional Development, EDI and people practices and will balance creativity with pragmatism.

The ideal candidate will be CIPD qualified or have senior level learning and development experience qualified by practice. They will be able to influence senior management  and have experience of developing coaching, mentoring and feedback skills programmes that positively impact people outcomes.

MAIN DUTIES

•  Translate the Institute’s strategic objectives into actionable learning and development and cultural strategies, with clear, ambitious measurable goals and targets
• Lead, coach and mentor across the People Directorate to align with organisational goals
• Coach the management team on people, culture and development processes
• Work collaboratively with the other departmental People Heads to develop and implement learning and cultural strategies to support business objectives
• Advise executive leadership on professional development and organisational culture related matters
• Be propositional and proactive in suggesting developmental solutions to people challenges
• Lead on succession planning and talent management
• Lead on the creation and implementation of performance management processes and development planning
• Champion and embed the Institute’s EDI strategy within learning, leadership, and cultural initiatives, working in close partnership with the EDI Strategic Lead.
• Act as a senior advocate for inclusive culture, aligning learning and organisational development efforts with EDI objectives.

Terms and Conditions

This full time post is offered on a permanent basis at an annual salary of £80,000 - £85,000 plus excellent benefits, including flexible working and family friendly policies.

The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.

Head of Finance & Operations

The Role

As Head of Finance & Operations, you will play a pivotal role in leading EFN’s financial, operational, and HR functions, ensuring the organisation continues to thrive and deliver on its ambitious strategy.

About You

We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance and operations leader who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

You will have:

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT)
• At least 7 years’ experience in financial and operational management within the charity sector
• Strong understanding of HR, IT, risk management, and governance in small teams
• Proven experience managing budgets, audits, and charity accounts (Xero experience ideal)
• Excellent project management and strategic planning skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and mentor others
• A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach

• Knowledge of UK charity governance and reporting requirements

About the role

We are looking for two exceptional Heads of Philanthropy to join our team to significantly increase philanthropic income for faculty fundraising priorities across King’s College London.Within your application, please indicate which position you are applying to, or if you are happy to be considered for both positions.

One role will lead the Health, Science & Technology philanthropy team, and the other will lead the Arts & Social Sciences philanthropy team. Candidates will need to demonstrate curiosity and genuine interest in the academic areas that fall within the role, and work in partnership with King’s experts and other stakeholders to be successful.

King’s has an ambition to significantly scale philanthropic income for Faculties as we prepare to launch our next major fundraising and engagement campaign in 2027 and mark the university’s bicentenary in 2029. There is currently at least one major gift fundraiser working in each Faculty. Working closely with the Associate Director, Faculty Philanthropy, the postholder will play a pivotal role in developing and growing the major gift fundraising function. They will be responsible for leading and nurturing a team of high value fundraisers to secure gifts at the £50k level and above.

We are looking for someone with a proven track-record of developing new, high value relationships, with experience of closing gifts at the six- and seven- figure level. They will need to demonstrate that they understand what is required to build and scale prospect portfolios. They should be intellectually curious and energised by the depth and breadth of King’s academic expertise, with particular interest and passion to work with senior university leaders and academics to secure funding for a range of priorities across either the Arts and Social Sciences, or Health, Science & Technology portfolio.

Working closely with the Associate Director, Faculty Philanthropy, the postholder will play a pivotal role in developing and growing the major gift fundraising function in advance of the launch of the university’s next public fundraising campaign. They will be responsible for leading and nurturing a team of high value fundraisers to secure gifts at the £50k level and above.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite  contract. P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office, on King’s campuses or meeting donors externally. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we’re very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.

Barnardo's is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to join our Fundraising & Marketing Directorate as Interim Head of Individual Giving. This is a pivotal senior management role, responsible for leading a team delivering a supporter and data focused fundraising programme, inspiring the public to donate, do more and build loyalty through authentic and compelling communications aligned to Barnardo's strategy. As Head of Individual Giving, you will lead a high-performing team of fundraising specialists across regular giving, cash, raffle, lottery, and legacy marketing. You will support in the development of the long term growth plan, work in inter disciplinary teams on campaign development and delivery supporting your team in this new way of working and be responsible for executing the plan so that it drives growth in acquisition, retention, and lifetime value of supporters. 

You will play a key role in the Fundraising & Marketing Leadership Team, contributing to the development of the charity's overarching fundraising & marketing strategic plan and embedding a culture that strives for excellence, focuses on continual improvement, and delivers in collaboration with others. 

This is a role for a experience professional who can translate insight into action, lead complex programmes with agility, and inspire teams to deliver outstanding results. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Strategic Leadership: Support the development of a Fundraising & Marketing growth plan and deliver a multi-year Individual Giving programme that supports sustainable income growth and deepens supporter engagement. 

• Programme Oversight: Lead the planning, delivery, and optimisation of multi-channel fundraising campaigns, ensuring they are data-driven, audience-centric, and aligned with Barnardo's brand values. 

• Financial Stewardship: Manage a multi-million-pound income and expenditure budget, with responsibility for forecasting, contingency planning, and risk mitigation.

Our Client is a UK charity supporting vulnerable women and families facing unexpected pregnancy or pregnancy loss. Through supported housing, a helpline and counselling service, and practical, non-judgemental support, this Charity helps pregnant women, often aged 16-25 and in crisis due to homelessness, abuse, or other trauma, build safer, more stable futures. The Community Fundraising Lead will recruit, inspire and support volunteers, delivering sustainable income growth while balancing hands-on fundraising with the development of long-term initiatives. Working closely with Marketing and Income Generation teams, you will collaborate on projects, cultivate pipelines and develop leads to maximise fundraising activity and donor acquisition across communities, groups and local businesses.

Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, you will implement a community fundraising strategy across diverse networks; designing engaging activities, stewarding supporters, and leveraging national campaigns and events. You'll champion excellent supporter care, build visibility for Life in local settings, and use data and insights to evaluate performance and scale what works.

As Head of Media and Public Affairs you will lead, plan, develop and implement effective media and public affairs strategies to actively promote the RCPCH and its priorities for maximum influence and impact.

The Head of Media and Public Affairs is an important leadership role at the College. You will work closely with journalists and media organisations to champion the College in the media as well as securing political support for our policy messages, through stakeholder relationships within the UK Government, Whitehall and the Westminster Parliament.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Policy & External Affairs, you will manage, direct and motivate the team to successfully achieve performance goals. You will play a pivotal role in driving the College’s Westminster public affairs work to secure our advocacy goals and you will also manage the out-of-hours media rota, being flexible to be on-call to media as required. You will also take responsibility for preparing and monitoring the Media and Public Affairs team budget, ensuring that all operational expenditure is value for money.

Degree educated or with relevant professional experience you will have demonstrable experience of developing and implementing proactive media and public affairs strategies and a strong track record in leading, planning, implementing and evaluating integrated communications strategies.

With proven leadership and performance management skills, you should also have a background of working with and influencing senior managers and have proven stakeholder management skills, being able to develop and nurture high level contacts in media and government.

Experience of briefing senior staff to act as spokespeople through the media and in direct engagement with political stakeholders is essential. Direct experience of working within an organisation that delivers health or children’s services would be desirable.

Key Tasks

Leadership

• Work with the People Sub-Committee (PSC) and SMT to develop and implement organisational people strategies and plans to support the delivery of our organisational strategy for older people.
• Have responsibility for our progress against these plans; measure and report this to PSC and SMT, including by administering our annual people survey, volunteer survey and trustee survey. Identify areas that require improvement and make recommendations for change.

People management

• Oversee People-related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and best practices.
