Head Of Education Jobs in Charing Cross, Greater London
We have two exciting new opportunities for those with a passion for racial justice, equality and inclusion to join our Diocesan staff team, as we seek to live out our commitment to racial justice.
- Racial Justice Development Officer
- Racial Justice Training and Resources Officer
Almost 40% of our churches are attended by a majority of UKME/GMH congregations and a large proportion of the pupils in our schools also come from ethnically diverse backgrounds. We recognise, celebrate, and embrace this diversity, committing to an integrated Diocesan approach to racial justice, as reflected in our Diocesan Vision, and prioritising and supporting healing and reconciliation in our communities.
In 2021 we launched the Diocese of Southwark’s Anti Racism Charter (ARC) which builds on earlier work in the Diocese and developed a subsequent 12-point plan to embed the ARC in real action.
We have worked hard to embed the ARC into our Diocesan vision and our management oversight structures and are now focusing even more intentionally on our recruitment, training and education challenges in our parishes and in the communities they serve. We have two new roles to help us on our journey:
These are great opportunities for someone to make a real difference to the work and progress of the Diocese, and more widely the National Church, in advancing in the area of racial justice for all.

We support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be effective tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. In addition, a dedicated school-based staff member mentors the students so they have the knowledge and support to make strong university applications. Our results show this approach works.
The Access Project Values
Empowerment: We support students and our people to develop the skills and knowledge to accomplish their goals.
Courage: We encourage our students and our people to be authentic, innovative, and ambitious in order to reach their full potential and deliver our mission.
Impact: We evolve our programmes through an evidence-led approach, supporting our students to achieve their best outcomes.
Inclusion: We respect and value individuality and engage diverse voices to achieve our mission.
Ownership: We hold ourselves accountable in all our actions and efforts. We ask, “What can I do to improve my results?”

Our vision is of our world where communities unite to create the futures they want to see, through education.
Since 2016, through collaborating extensively with over 250 local volunteers, who take a central leadership role in the development of the network, we have supported 50 communities in creating and running community-led and owned education spaces named ‘Spots’, with a strategy to support them in moving towards our ‘Dream Spot Model’. Together, we are developing a model for a community-led education space with accompanying network engagement that could have relevance in settings across the world.
Our Ghana-based programmes team creates collaborative learning opportunities through three leadership programmes for volunteers: the Ignite, Catalyse and Peer Mentoring Programmes. These enable them to lead EduLit, EduSTEM, EduKidz and Ignite Equity clubs, alongside locally designed education projects, reaching over 10,000 students of all ages annually.
