We are seeking an experienced fundraising and communications manager to cover maternity leave in our award winning charity working to end homelessness one person at a time in East London.  

About the role

Based within the fundraising team, The Fundraising, Communications & Supporter Manager will provide direction and manage the team responsible for brand, communications, events and fundraising through individual giving, legacies, community and corporate partnerships. This role will also directly be responsible for Major Donor relations and income.

The role and its responsibilities are critical in the charity’s growth and delivery of strategic goals through brand development, stakeholder engagement and delivery of some key streams of fundraised income. This role will work closely with the new Head of Fundraising and Communications role which has recently been created, and with our established Trusts Fundraising Manager, to support diversification/growth of income streams.

Salary: £39,520 - £46,800 annual salary

Hours: 37.5, Monday to Friday 
Location: Hybrid/Canning Town, East London Office 

Other responsibilities include

• Develop the brand on an ongoing basis, in collaboration with the Chief Executive and senior leaders, to ensure it is serving the charity as it grows and helps to achieve strategic goals
• Ensure the charity’s visual identity and organisational narrative are upheld through all communications and PR, ensuring messaging is story and outcomes based
• Support the Heads of Fundraising and Communications to devise a communications strategy aimed at engaging new and existing audiences, building the charity’s profile and increasing fundraising income
• Oversee web presence and marketing campaigns, ensuring the delivery of distinctive, engaging and integrated content, reflecting the charity’s mission and values
• Oversee the organisation and execution of corporate, stewardship and fundraising events
• Work with departments across Your Place to maximise opportunities to promote work and activities, and champion the voices of those accessing services, supporting residents to convey their stories
• Sourcing and working with agencies, consultants and suppliers

Public Relations:

• Identify stories and opportunities to increase brand awareness
• Identify and keep abreast of internal and external reputational and financial risks to the charity, developing crisis management plans and responses, working with the Chief Executive and Board where necessary
• Be main point of contact for our Patrons and President to encourage ongoing involvement, and identify and approach appropriate, prospective supporters to the charity including patrons/ambassadors and people of influence
• Oversee the development of corporate and public relations collateral, including impact reports
• Oversee applications to awarding bodies, working in close partnership with other departments
• Collaborate with partners on campaigns that align with our mission and values

Development:

• Input into organisational development plans, working closely with the Strategic Management Team
• Devise and oversee development and implementation of the fundraising and audience audit and strategy
• Review existing and future fundraising and marketing activities to ensure compliance with regulations and best practice, ensuring internal controls are adhered to in order to ensure supporter satisfaction and to mitigate against reputational and financial risk to the charity
• Keep up to date with best practice in fundraising, identifying and sharing trends, developments, regulations and legal requirements that impact Your Place - specifically, this includes the Fundraising Regulator’s requirements including the Fundraising Code, GDPR, PECR, and Charity Commission regulations
• Manage budgets, contracts and resources across the relevant parts of the department
• Prepare forecasts for income and report on the team’s performance against targets and KPIs
• Oversee accurate recording of income, sources and allocation to ensure proper organisational expenditure
• Contribute to the production of the organisational annual accounts and Directors Report
• Development of relevant departmental policies and procedures as required

Managing and Developing People:

• Manage the work of direct reports, agreeing and setting objectives, targets and deadlines
• Be responsible for monitoring workflow and managing performance, ensuring that work meets agreed objectives, targets and deadlines
• Discuss and agree personal development plans and objectives annually, and on an ongoing basis. Provide appropriate development and coaching opportunities to support the Fundraising and Communications department in working towards their objectives.

General:

• Directly take responsibility for supporting and communicating with our major donor / high net worth supporters, and work to deliver against agreed targets for this income stream.
• Produce reports for and attend meetings internally as and when necessary, for example, Directorate, Management and planning meetings
• Undertake other duties within the competence of the post holder which may be required from time to time

The Recruitment team is responsible for sourcing, selecting and hiring for 500 places for Approach Social Work (previously known as the Frontline programme) in local authorities across England.

About the Role

Reporting to Head of Fundraising and Communications, you'll play a crucial role in raising funds by engaging with SME's and the local community. The Youth Zone has developed a targeted funds infrastructure with live impact data established and ready to utilise in funding presentations. It costs £1.7 million a year to run, 90% of which is generated through voluntary donations of which this role will be aiming to contribute £200k in the first 2 years.

You will therefore play a vital role in keeping the charity financially sustainable through the development of local business and community fundraising. You will be given ample scope to test your creative ideas and drive forward income generation, supported by the Head of Fundraising and Communications, the Chief Executive and a forward thinking and engaged Board of Trustees.

About You

Being self-motivated and action orientated, you will be able to create and grow your own pool of potential supporters and thrive on 'making the ask'. As an enthusiastic ambassador, you'll be able to communicate this in an inspiring and tailored way and be comfortable in seeking and securing donations, whilst working alongside colleagues in the team to monitor and steward these donations appropriately.

Knowledge and experience:

Proven track record of generating income from Community and/or Corporate Fundraising.

Migrateful runs cookery classes led by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants who are on the journey to integration and gaining access to employment. Our cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community.

Since its establishment in 2017, Migrateful has made a profound impact on the lives of 92 cookery class teachers. Together, they have conducted over 3500 classes, sharing the rich tapestry of their cultures and cuisines with over 40,000 participants.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will support the Head of Chef Development in the organisation, recruitment, and facilitation of our Cookery Teacher Training Programme. You will also be responsible for developing, writing, and amending class documents for our cookery class experiences, including recipes, class plans, and allergen matrices.

Over time you will forge the skills to monitor classes and provide nuanced, effective feedback to Cookery Class Teachers to maintain and improve the quality of their teaching.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a warm, empathetic, and engaging individual with exceptional organisational and communication skills for the role of  Chef Training Coordinator at Migrateful. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for people and inclusion, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

They should be proactive, flexible, and creative in their approach to problem-solving. Experience with recipe development, food safety certification, and working with refugees, migrants, or non-native English speakers is highly desirable,  and professional or personal cookery experience would be a plus. Nobody is immune from misfortune. When unexpected hardship strikes, like injury or illness, money pressures can quickly pile up. The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund is the leading UK charity for doctors, medical students, and their families. They provide financial help, mental health support and practical advice to people whose lives have been turned upside down by adversity such as illness, injury and bereavement.

The Philanthropy Manager will grow income from the existing warm donor database in order to develop the mid-level and high net worth individuals programmes. You will use your experience to identify, attract and cultivate new donors and will work closely with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to implement donor segmentation, build on supporter stewardship and appeal strategies for major donors. You will also ideally have experience of attending fundraising events; RMBF have a healthy portfolio of stewardship and cultivation events each year to support fundraising asks.

The selected candidate will have the ability to identify potential donors, prioritising workload and developing effective fundraising strategies. You will have excellent written skills with an ability to craft compelling and personalised proposals and will have a track record of delivering income against targets, ideally within a fundraising environment.

This role is a permanent position that will have hybrid working in the Wimbledon office two days per week and two days from home. The salary for this role is £42k - £45k FTE and is offered on a 28 hour week basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Research and evaluate new funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, and other grant funders, maintaining a 12-month funding calendar.

2. Cultivate and nurture relationships with funding/grant-making organisations, both new and existing.

3. Develop compelling cases for support for designated projects or organisational areas, tailoring funding bids and applications accordingly.

4. Enhance Buttle UK's ability to deliver compelling reports to donors, meeting or surpassing their expectations.

5. Submit timely reports to donors, ensuring compliance with monitoring and evaluation requirements.

6. Support the maintenance of systems tracking fund allocation and expenditure, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information for funders.

7. Manage donor records on the Raiser's Edge fundraising database, including recording activities, income, and producing management reports.

8. Stay informed about funding opportunities and trends in the sector through attending conferences, workshops, and events.

9. Generate accurate and timely management information on fundraising activities and budgets.

10. Ensure integration of fundraising activities within the wider staff team and provide necessary support.

11. Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Fundraising and Marketing and/or the Trust Fundraising Manager.

12. Proactively assess own performance and development needs.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience

1. Proven experience and success in developing and drafting proposals and/or reports raising funds from trusts, foundations, other grant makers or the equivalent.

2. Experience of creating compelling and concise funding proposals, written documents and reports from a range of information sources, including detailed technical or sector specific information. about the organisation’s work.

3. Proven ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.

4. Experience of research techniques applicable to identifying funding opportunities and framing funding bids.

5. Financially literate with the experience of producing and interpreting budgets, or other detailed numerical information.

6. Experience of working under your own initiative, dealing with conflicting demands and working under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

7. Experience of project planning and/or project coordination.

8. Proven IT skills, ideally with experience of using databases.

9. Good knowledge of the charity sector.

The Community Fundraising team at Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) is responsible for securing income from individuals, regional businesses and groups fundraising in the community, effectively managing relationships to maximise income.

The Regional Fundraising Officer role will play a significant part in contributing to a high-performing fundraising team. The role will cover the Kent and Sussex region.

You will report to the Community Fundraising Manager and support the Head of Regional Fundraising to drive the continued growth of the charity’s community fundraising income in your area. You will also be required to show excellent relationship-building skills to support community partnerships and volunteer groups, driving towards agreed targets.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract, or on return of the substantive post holder, to cover a period of maternity leave.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

Strategy, finance, and reporting

· Responsibility for 3 income streams within the Kent and Sussex region including corporate, community groups and Do It Yourself (DIY) fundraising.

· Identify and apply for ‘Charity of the Year’ partnerships with corporates in the region, account manage these relationships up to a value of £50,000 per annum and support the Partnership Development Team with partnerships in your region with a value of up to £100,000.

· Support existing volunteer fundraisers to encourage continued loyalty to the charity and to maximise funds raised, following fundraising legislation and good practice.

· Recruit new fundraising supporters in line with strategy.

· Support the Community Fundraising Manager (CFM) and Head of Regional Fundraising (HORF) in developing the Community Fundraising strategy for ARUK to increase income within this stream.

· Support and extend volunteer networks within the geographical area in line with strategy.

· To ensure that fundraising activity is implemented and managed locally to deliver budgets, targets and income in line with strategy. To achieve this by supporting and facilitating the development of groups and volunteers across the geographical area.

· Work across a diverse geographical area and within a geographically dispersed team, whilst managing own workload cost-effectively and proactively.

Supporter Management

· Provide excellent customer service to community fundraising supporters (including maintaining a polite, enthusiastic manner with prompt responses to enquiries), to acknowledge support and increase long-term loyalty.

· Provide high-quality account management to volunteer groups in geographical area.

· Effective management of volunteer relationships within geographical area.

· Support, motivate and develop local fundraising volunteers, ensuring they have a clear understanding of ARUK to enable them to represent the charity’s work effectively.

· In liaison with the Partnership Development Managers and Partnership Development Officers, provide high-quality account management to corporate supporters within the specified geographical area and/or of relevant value.

· Keep up to date with fundraising legislation and codes of practice to be able to provide relevant advice to fundraisers.

· Ensure volunteers and fundraisers have all necessary materials for fundraising initiatives.

Increasing Community Support within geographical area

· Use own initiative to extend volunteer networks, develop new groups and supporters, and respond to fundraising opportunities within the geographical area, in line with strategy.

· Run volunteer events with both a recruitment and cultivation function, liaising closely with the Stewardship and Events team to ensure a seamless supporter journey, and with the Press team to include media volunteers.

· Manage the recruitment process of new ARUK volunteers in the geographical area, providing relevant support and training.

· Liaise with local community organisations (e.g., golf clubs, educational institutions etc.) – both previous and new potential supporters – to extend income and activity in line with the strategy.

· Initiate and roll out community fundraising events in the geographical area with evidence of effective ROI and achievement of strategic goals.

· Provide face-to-face talks and presentations to community organisations for recruitment/ cultivation purposes.

· Arrange appropriate volunteer representation at events in the community (for example, for cheque collections and talks), spreading the charity’s reach cost-effectively.

· Identify, research and target prospective community organisations, in liaison with CFM.

· Identify, research and target prospective local corporates in liaison with CFM / HORF and ARUK’s Partnership Development Managers and Partnership Development Officers, in line with both community and corporate strategies.

· Accurately track and record contact with both community and corporate prospects for planning and reporting purposes.

Monitoring and Reporting

· Ensure that your activity is monitored and evaluated, clearly communicating progress to your Community Fundraising Manager.

· Manage relevant information on the charity’s database, keeping detailed, up-to-date records of activity and income.

What we are looking for:

· Experience in partnership fundraising and/or relationship-building.

· Experience in public speaking, such as giving presentations and talking at events.

· Knowledge of recruiting key volunteers and fundraising supporters.

· Experience and a keen interest in building long-term relationships with supporters.

· Full driver’s license with access to own vehicle. 

· Flexibility to work some unsocial hours and willingness to travel independently.

• Develop a Major Gifts strategy that delivers agreed income goals and leads to increased and multi-year financial commitments from Major Donors.
