Role Purpose

The role holder will be part of the Operations & Transformation Directorate reporting to the Head of PMO / Change and Delivery Lead.

The incumbent will have a pivotal role in the management of change, implementation and continuous improvement projects, mostly in the digital and IDS sphere. The role holder will help to ensure the work is aligned with the strategic objectives of the organisation, promoting the team’s relevance and value. Working on a broad spectrum of digitally focussed projects, this role will partner with the senior management team and other internal stakeholders.

Key Activities

• Project Management of Mobilisation and Implementation projects covering systems, continuous improvement, and strategic projects
• Creating project plans & mapping dependencies from bottom-up in collaboration with key stakeholders
• Define and track project milestones and ensure dependencies are understood and accepted by the relevant owners
• Report on the status of projects and ensure the appropriate governance and compliance is applied
• Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of a complex range of initiatives and/or projects
• Act as Project Manager by planning, supporting, facilitating and monitoring progress of activities, ensuring that delivery is on track, as well as establishing mitigating activities where risks and issues may arise.
• Oversee a number of complex projects
• This role requires a proactive approach to relationship building - collaborating, negotiating and managing internal and external stakeholders, ensuring delivery is achieved by the most effective and efficient means.
• Ensuring the project stays on time and within budget to deliver outcomes and measure expectations
• Working with the Risk Manager on risk and issues management

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

• Significant and demonstrable project management experience (3-5 years) in a multi-project environment, from inception to implementation and closure
• Extensive experience delivering complex projects with strategic change component
• Experience managing projects through multi-disciplinary teams
• Project/Programme qualification e.g. APM, PRINCE2, MSP; experience working with both Waterfall and Agile methodologies
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills (verbal, written and listening)
• Strong attention to detail
• Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and proactively
• Resilient and able to handle ambiguity
• Personal, relatable character, able to build relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage data and information with discretion

Desirable:

• Have had exposure with matrix working and strong capability as a business partner in relationship building with stakeholders
• Demonstrable experience dealing with Director-level stakeholders and challenge thinking where appropriate
• Government / public sector experience would be advantageous

The position:

You will manage our Volunteer team, requiring exceptional communication, a natural affinity for people management and organisation, and an ability to inspire people to get involved with our work. You will be responsible for the overarching strategy and success of the Volunteer Program.

Line managing two members of staff, you will ensure our Volunteer team sets and meets their strategic goals, contributing to our organisational priorities. Developing strategies which effectively mobilise our volunteers to drive campaigning work, you’ll ensure volunteers make the biggest possible impact for animals whilst remaining engaged and supported.

Hours:

This is a temporary 12 month maternity cover, full-time position over Monday to Friday.

From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing. 

During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms for the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.

Who you are:

Volunteers will be your passion. You’ll have a deep understanding of the importance of this kind of supporter and how to best steward their specific experience and manage their unique needs. You'll understand how to best manage and recruit volunteers, mobilising our UK wide network effectively both remotely and on the ground in order to create change. You’ll know how to best communicate and engage with them in order to make the most out of their time and efforts. You are someone who wouldn’t ask volunteers to do something you wouldn’t do yourself and you’ll ideally have some kind of experience of campaigning in a paid or voluntary capacity (e.g. attending protests).

Someone with previous line management experience is desirable, as you’ll need to be able to effectively manage and lead your team of direct reports.

As a member of the Leadership level of the organisation, you’re someone who can meaningfully contribute to organisation wide decision making, thinking holistically and strategically across teams.

As the manager and leader of your team, you’ll have demonstrable experience of organising several deliverables or projects, which involve multiple teams, at any one time.

You can forward think strategically and collaboratively, considering the volunteer program as well as the work of other teams, setting realistic timelines with this in mind and meeting deadlines reliably.

You’re adaptable, and can work nimbly, with desirable experience working specifically within a campaign environment in some way, where things can change quickly and unexpectedly.

You’re someone who can keep your cool in challenging situations, being able to problem solve and reprioritise with ease to lead your team to success, even when things change at the last minute. You are able to continually evaluate and identify areas of improvement for the volunteer program, recognising key opportunities to evolve and adapt for the best possible impact for animals.

Home based, you’ll have a strong ability to work independently, but you’re also someone who can work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Duties:

Management

Manages the Lead Grassroots Campaigns Coordinator and the Volunteer Program Administrator

• Ensures staff receive the training, resources and support to do their jobs effectively, encouraging the professional development of individual team members

• Manages and leads the Volunteer team to achieve agreed goals

• Develops volunteering goals, in collaboration with the Programs department, and is responsible for timely reporting and tracking of these

• Sets/clarifies job expectations and provides regular feedback, guidance and support to your team

• Empowers staff in the ongoing delivery of their work, from development of strategies and techniques through to successful day to day outputs

• Manages time off requests and approval of expenses for the Volunteer team members

• Manages overarching budget for Volunteer team

Strategy

• Develop and manage all plans and overarching strategy for our Volunteer team, including volunteer stewardship, recruitment and grassroots activism on the ground, ensuring the day to day is delivered effectively by the team

• Work together with the Head of Programs to develop and guide THL UK Volunteer strategy and activities, identifying key priorities and strategies to further the program

• Be an active member of the Programs department Leadership team, working closely with other managers within programs and the Head of Programs to deliver department goals

• Be an active member of the wider Leadership team across the organisation, contributing to organisation level decisions and working to ensure effective strategic alignment, ensuring Volunteer work is communicated successfully and opportunities for collaboration maximised

• Analyse & report on the effectiveness of activities delivered by the team, including timely goal reporting, feeding into funding proposals and more

• Observe and work with other organisations to learn new approaches and share/coordinate strategies, making connections with other organisations as required

Volunteering

• Lead our volunteer program to ensure our volunteers take action with us and remain engaged

• Ensure the Volunteer team organise effective and engaging actions and opportunities for our volunteers which contribute to our campaigns, working particularly closely with the Campaigns team

• Determine overarching training strategy, recruitment and internal processes for the volunteer program as a whole, with supporter experience at the heart

• Oversee our volunteering policies and procedures and their successful implementation, including regular reviews

• Ensure volunteering remains at the heart of what we do, you identify a diverse range of opportunities for our volunteers to get involved with across the entire organisation which ultimately contribute to campaign success, and high satisfaction amongst the volunteers themselves

In addition:

• Attend conferences, events, protests and actions as required

• Participate in team meetings including leading, note-taking and facilitation.

• Attend in-person workshops several times a year.

• Help us make THL UK an inclusive workplace where employees and supporters are proud to be members of the movement

• Demonstrate commitment to creating a stronger and more effective animal protection movement through inclusion and belonging, recognising the need for all of us to do better for social justice on a personal and organisational level.

BIHR is made up of a talented and experienced Delivery Team who are Human Rights Act (HRA) practice specialists. For this post we are looking for an excellent manager, committed to supporting a small, busy, expert team to deliver Human Rights Act (HRA) practice, communications and policy work.

The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking an Individual Giving and Data Manager to join our Development Directorate on a fixed-term basis, providing key support in the delivery of the Academy’s fundraising efforts, including supporting the implementation of a new CRM system.

The Role

The Individual Giving and Data Manager will work closely with the Head of Development to manage data and deliver communications to individual donors at the British Academy. This will include a regular giving programme, with a target audience of the Academy’s Fellow, and fundraising from public events attendees. This role is unique in that it sits within the small, friendly Development Directorate, and will also work closely with colleagues in the Academy’s Digital Team.

The Academy is currently transitioning its CRM system to Salesforce and the Individual Giving and Data Manager will work closely with the Project Team to achieve this. A core duty of the role involves the migration of data and helping to coordinate and build new fundraising processes within the new system. To do this, the post-holder will work collaboratively across the organisation to ensure that communications to Fellows and other individual donors are co-ordinated. You will be an effective communicator, able to collaborate with both external and internal stakeholders. A keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving, in terms of planning, prioritisation and demonstrating resilience when faced with adversity is essential.

You will also coordinate fundraising-related communications across a variety of platforms, working closely with colleagues in the Digital Team. This includes thanking donors in a timely and sincere manner, delivering stewardship events for donors, and reporting on activities in the annual report.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

• Sales: Providing information about the availability of venues, quotes, and supporting on carrying out site visits
• Operations: Manage the delivery of events, which includes but is not limited to implementation, onsite delivery, negotiation of contracts and vendor arrangements, support and post-event closing. Ensuring the highest standard of customer service is displayed at all times
• Event Production: Supporting the Head of Events and Events Team with the delivery of events produced by Enable and assist with the physical set up and dismantling of events
• Admin/Finance: Managing client invoices, venue bookings and budget

The Bike Project (TBP) is looking for a Marketing Executive to join the Fundraising & Marketing Team.  This role will focus on delivering marketing activity to help drive fundraising donations, increase income through retail sales, and boost engagement with our audiences.

As Project Support Officer you will support the London & South East Area Manager and Regional Managers with volunteer recruitment, documentation of training, giving our volunteers a fantastic experience, guest outreach and giving extra support to our London & South East projects as and when required to aid development and growth within the region.

Each of our Projects is run by Project Leaders (volunteer position) and supported by Regional Managers through recruitment and training of volunteers. Your will support the Regional Managers so that they can manage more projects, knowing that you have helped with the embedding of volunteers, along with supporting expansion plans within their areas. This support could range from developing relationships with our food suppliers, researching local organisations to support with guest outreach, and recruiting new Project Leaders for the Area.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to talk confidently to external people about our Projects. You will also be a good organizer, with the ability to manage multiple tasks within multiple Projects. You will have a passion for food and cooking, and be committed to our objectives and ethics.

This role will require some attendance at our Community Meals projects, to support with delivery as necessary, which will include evening and weekend work. As well as projects across London, our South East projects include Southampton, Portsmouth, Aylesbury and exciting new openings in Slough and Reading in 2024.

About the Role

Reporting to Head of Fundraising and Communications, you'll play a crucial role in raising funds by engaging with SME's and the local community. This role involves developing and implementing fundraising campaigns, cultivating relationships with potential donors, supporting staff fundraising initiatives and coordinating fundraising events. You will collaborate with various stakeholders and build long-term partnerships that contribute to the sustainability and growth of the organisation.

The Youth Zone has developed a targeted funds infrastructure with live impact data established and ready to utilise in funding presentations. It costs £1.7 million a year to run, 90% of which is generated through voluntary donations of which this role will be aiming to contribute £200k in the first 2 years.

You will therefore play a vital role in keeping the charity financially sustainable through the development of local business and community fundraising. You will be given ample scope to test your creative ideas and drive forward income generation, supported by the Head of Fundraising and Communications, the Chief Executive and a forward thinking and engaged Board of Trustees.

About You

Being self-motivated and action orientated, you will be able to create and grow your own pool of potential supporters and thrive on 'making the ask'. As an enthusiastic ambassador, you'll be able to communicate this in an inspiring and tailored way and be comfortable in seeking and securing donations, whilst working alongside colleagues in the team to monitor and steward these donations appropriately.

Knowledge and experience:

Proven track record of generating income from Community and/or Corporate Fundraising. 
Experience of meeting ambitious targets for new business and stewarding. 
Experience of managing a pipeline of potential supporters/donors and aligning your interests with the organisational needs, to maximise gift level. 
Understanding of issues affecting young people and disadvantaged communities.
Understanding and knowledge of White City Community.
