The Queen’s Reading Room is the charity founded by Her Majesty Queen Camilla in 2023. We believe that books make us happier, healthier and better connected, having a strong positive impact on our mental health, brain health and social connectedness. We’re on a mission to get more people reading more, for all the transformative benefits of books.

Our work is in three areas: neuroscientific study to understand the lifelong benefits of regular reading; the production of accessible content and events; and grassroots work to help shelters and refuges access books and shared reading groups, in partnership with organisations like St Mungo’s, The Elm Foundation and Reading for Wellbeing.

Our audience is predominantly digital, reaching 12 million people annually in 183 countries. We’re concerned that the UK is currently facing a reading crisis, with children’s reading rates the lowest on record and 1 in 2 adults not having read nor listened to a single book last year. We’re working hard to change that.

About the Role

The Queen’s Reading Room is funded entirely by grants, donations, sponsorship and income from events. We’re looking for a vibrant and well-connected individual to join the small but agile team, to lead this function within the charity and design and set up a fundraising committee. You will build on a strong base of income generation and work to sustain and expand it.

You will be responsible for building the fundraising strategy with the charity’s CEO and Board of Trustees; for identifying appropriate opportunities to generate funding in the UK and internationally; and for the targets agreed by the CEO and board. You will be comfortable with, and have experience in, the world of high profile and high net-worth individuals, legacy fundraising, fundraising and friendraising events. You will know how to build relationships with individual donor prospects along with charitable trusts, foundations and other institutional funders. You will attend networking events and meetings with potential donors.

Your role will include devising and creating fundraising events; securing sponsorship for events and festivals; contributing to the writing and submitting of funding applications to charitable trusts and foundations; and advising and providing suitable copy for fundraising marketing and digital materials. You will work with the team to create case studies and grant reports, sharing and telling great stories to supporters to ensure that they understand the difference that their donations make and with a view to securing repeat support.

You’ll create new relationships by preparing and delivering pitches, talks and presentations and prepare reports and give presentations on fundraising progress to the CEO and the Board of Trustees.

You will join as a key member of the organisation, alongside the CEO, Director of Operations, Director of MarComms, Head of Talent, Head of Production and Team Researcher.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of significant and sustained income generation. You’ll have a track record of managing and developing relationships with individual donors and be committed to building good internal and external relationships. You will have experience of performing due diligence and have a careful and considered approach to fundraising. Your knowledge of the fundraising market will be excellent. You will understand the complexity of the charity landscape and the sensitivities of the role. You will understand the need for confidentiality to be paramount.

Strong writing and presentation skills are essential.

There will be a lot going on at once, so we’ll be looking for someone who is flexible with changing priorities and who has excellent administrative, IT, organisational and planning skills. You’ll be able to prioritise your workload, manage administration and be able to work independently. You will be an excellent team player but be able to take responsibility for your own work stream.

CGHP is a charitable programme based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and is a linked charity to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.

About the role

Reporting in to the Director of Organisational Effectiveness, the Head of Health, Safety, Security & Safeguarding is a key role for Christian Aid and will inspire, design and drive Christian Aid's Global Safe strategy, in respect of safety, security, and safeguarding, ensuring that staff in the UK, overseas offices, and partner organisations operate in a safe, secure, and well-supported environment.

The post-holder will be the custodian of a safe culture, ensuring that it aligns with the global culture programme and overall people strategy and be the organisation's safeguarding and security ambassador and expert, acting both internally and externally as a thought leader, challenging appropriately and bringing external expertise to Christian Aid.

About you

-Advanced knowledge of global safeguarding frameworks, including protection of vulnerable groups, PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), and child safeguarding and how they apply in humanitarian contexts.

Are you a detail-driven finance professional with the skill for keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes? We’re looking for a Finance Manager to join our dynamic team and play a key role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our financial operations.

Reporting to the Head of Financial Operations, you’ll be at the heart of our finance department—overseeing everything from general ledger accuracy and treasury management to accounts payable/receivable and VAT returns. You’ll help maintain high standards of professional competence, support internal and external audits, and lead on monthly controls and reconciliations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversight of the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger
• Responsibility for the monthly control oversight, including internal controls, prompt reconciliations of control accounts, separation of duties, and compliance with proscribed systems of authorisation. This includes the management of existing finance processes and associated process maps and policies.
• Assist in the preparation of annual accounts, in compliance with the SORP and relevant GAAP. Liaison with external and internal auditors
• Lead in preparation of the daily cash flow forecast, and preparation of monthly reconciliations between forecast and actual
• Oversee the Purchase Ledger Manager including oversight of the purchase ledger function, ensuring the ledger is kept clean and at an acceptable level, and maintaining the sub ledgers within purchase ledger
• Oversight of the sales ledger function working with the Billings & Contracts Officer.  
• Oversee the Fundraising Finance Lead role, ensuring accuracy of reconciliations between Fundraising and Finance
• Oversight of the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring its accuracy
• Submission of the quarterly VAT returns
• Management of the Charity’s Bank Accounts and Corporate Cards
• A leading role in ongoing development to the Finance systems to drive efficiencies

Summary

The Interim Head of Funding will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the funding strategy of our three charities (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, Guy’s Cancer Charity and Evelina London Children’s Charity). The postholder will play a leading role in enabling the successful delivery of funding and impact across our NHS Charities in line with our strategy, covering activities across the full breadth of our funding cycle, from development of proposals, review of applications in line with our governance and overseeing delivery and monitoring of funded programmes. We are looking for an individual with funding experience from the health sector with strong line management experience to support the work of the funding team. The post is being offered on a six-month basis in a covering capacity.

Job Description

Key responsibilities:

 

Funding

· Responsible for overseeing the end-to-end funding process from development of applications to decisions and monitoring of funded programmes.

· Overseeing ongoing delivery of the funding strategy by working with Funding Managers to effectively deliver and manage funding portfolios.

· Co-chairing of funding committees as required, supporting delivery in line with our governance structures.

· Oversee effective management of our Special Purpose Funds (SPFs)

· Working with finance teams and Funding Managers to ensure appropriate financial reporting and information is available across our funding portfolio.

· Supporting on financial and operational planning in-year, at mid-year review and in planning for future years, in line with our strategy.

· Supporting Funding Managers to maintain strong relationships with the Trust leads, to enable a partnership approach

· Working closely with the Head of Evaluation & Learning to ensure evaluation and learning are embedded at every stage of the funding cycle

· Leading on cross-team programmes of work such as embedding health equity into our funding, deliver effective patient and public engagement (working with the Patient and Public Engagement Manager) across our decision-making and deliver improvements to our grant-making.

· Supporting the iteration of the funding strategy

 

Other

· Provide line management to the Funding Managers and Patient and Public Engagement Manager as well as supporting the overall work of the wider team.

· As a key senior leader of the Funding and Impact Team, contribute and support the wider work of the team.

· Support the Director of Funding and Impact and Executive Director of Charities with other tasks relating to planning and development as required.

· Build and sustain strong relationships with the Fundraising, Marketing and Engagement teams within NHS Charities to enable collaborative working and sharing of information on our funding portfolio.

Working Environment: 

The post holder should expect to: 

• Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home.

The Events & Fundraising Manager will work at the heart of our public events programme, helping to organise fundraising walks and other events across London and the South East, and raising funds to support the provision of free legal advice. Our events include the London Legal Walk -- an annual event which raises over £1 million each year -- regional Legal Walk events, and other fundraising events such as the Great Legal Quiz and the Great Legal Bake. LLST also purchases places for third party events such as the London Marathon, Brighton Marathon, and Big Half. We also raise money through individual and corporate donations.

The Events & Fundraising Manager's principal role is to manage these events and promote our fundraising in support of free legal advice charities in London and the South East. Your main duties and responsibilities will include the following:

Support JRSST-CT and the UK Democracy Fund to achieve their aims of tackling political inequality and expanding democratic participation through developing and managing a portfolio of grants, and communication of our work to key stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Assess and manage the grant portfolio for the UK Democracy Fund and JRSST-CT, in support of the strategy.
• Lead development of JRSST-CT’s written communications, including website, newsletter copy, reporting to Board and funders, copy for fundraising, and case studies.
• Keep up to date with developments relevant to the Trust’s work and maintain and improve personal competence through continuous professional development.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic (Senior) Research Officer. This exciting role involves undertaking research on gambling related financial harms and engaging with stakeholders in financial services firms to practically apply our research to their work. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent critical thinking, research and policy development skills, with the ability to digest complex information quickly and appraise firms work against regulatory requirements, best practice examples and policy recommendations.

The successful candidate will primarily work as part of the Gambling Harms Action Lab team where we’re bringing together seven representatives from financial services firms to explore ways to reduce gambling related financial harms. The (Senior) Research Officer will be an integral part of the team working to tackle gambling related financial harms through delivering timely and insightful research and consultancy support. 

We are looking for an exceptional team member who is driven to create meaningful change and is passionate about tackling gambling related financial harms. The successful candidate should have a genuine commitment to our organisation's mission, as well as to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
