Job Purpose

The Group Head of Marketing and Communications is a strategic leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering an excellent quality, high impact approach to integrated marketing, brand and communications across the TLC Group.

The postholder will primarily set direction and enable the team to deliver their work, with some direct input into campaigns, messaging and other outputs. 

This role is directly accountable for:

• Growth in key audiences
• Smooth running of the marketing provision of TLC Group including website, social, internal and external comms, press, PR and brands.
• Delivery of high-quality campaigns, on time and to budget, which deliver agreed outcomes. 

The role will share responsibility with others for: 

• Growth in fundraised income
• Performance of commercial subsidiaries

Wider Support

The postholder will be supported by the Director of Development as their line manager, and beyond that the Development sub-committee of our TLC Group Board alongside the wider Board itself. 

There will be scope to shape and grow the internal team if / when the TLC Group continues to expand. Beyond the direct team, TLC Group uses a network of freelancers and agencies and there is potentially scope to draw in their expertise, budget permitting. 

Key responsibilities

Strategic leadership

• Provide outstanding leadership and direction for the TLC Group Marketing and Communications team, bringing energy and drive to our ambition.
• Develop and lead the implementation of a TLC Group-wide Marketing and Communications strategy aligned with organisational goals. 
• Lead on positioning the organisation as a sector leader, enhancing visibility, influence and impact. 
• Advise the Executive Leadership Team on marketing, communications and reputational risk. Plan and mitigate against brand and organisational reputational risk and manage crisis communications effectively. 

Brand and Communications

• Lead the development and ongoing delivery of brand marketing strategies for each of our differentiated brands, supporting the transition to an audience led approach. 
• Lead the implementation and embedding of our new brand portfolio across our organisation including successful application of brand identities, values, key messages and tone of voice. 
• Identify opportunities to increase brand awareness and lead the delivery of these across a national footprint. 
• Set the strategic direction for all internal and external communications, including our Press and PR work.
• Ensure our messaging reflects organisational values, mission and impact. 

Income Generation and Commercial Integration

• Support the growth of our Charity by providing Marketing expertise and developing marketing plans which facilitate our partnerships and charitable income generation work (fundraising, philanthropy and grants). Work closely with our Development and Partnerships teams to deliver this. 
• Support the Group's commercial subsidiaries by providing Marketing expertise and developing marketing plans which assist the subsidiaries to meet their revenue targets. Work closely with our Group Commercial Director to deliver this. 

Influencing 

• Support our Policy team (part of our Development team) developing TLC's government relations work through influencing campaigns, parliamentary events and policy responses. 

Digital and Innovation

• Drive digital changes and innovative solutions to improve customer journeys, supporter retention and AI integrations/automations, helping to futureproof our growing organisation. 

Leadership and Management

• Lead the team to deliver across brands, through effective project management and prioritisation as well as ensuring alignment of stakeholder expectations against agreed objectives. 
• Develop our high-performing marketing and communications team and build connections which embed marketing and communications across the entire Group.
• Establish a network of strategic relationships with key stakeholders across team and subsidiaries to support a one team approach, integrated planning and effective delivery.
• Set the Departmental budget with a focus on value for money. 

Stakeholder Engagement

• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners, media and influencers. 
• Represent the organisation externally at events and in the media. 

Organisational

• Support the designated safeguarding lead to ensure all staff, volunteers, trustees and students at TLC Group understand that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Ensure adherence to policies, mandatory training, reporting concerns, and compliance to protect children and adults at risk.
• Perform any other duties within the general scope of this job profile or as reasonably required by the Director of Development.
• Commit to continuous professional development through engagement in specific opportunities agreed with the Director of Development.

Experience

• Senior leadership experience in marketing and communications. 
• Proven track record of developing and implementing effective brand strategies across:

           - An organisation with a diverse portfolio of services, brands or sub-brands - and/or

           -A charity or social enterprise with commercial subsidiaries

• Developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies that employ a mixture of marketing channels.
• Producing comprehensive campaigns that increase income and engagement. 
• Building high trust, collaborative relationships and managing stakeholders at every level. 
• Understanding and working with diverse audiences. 

Skills and abilities

• Managing a multi-brand portfolio in a fast faced environment.

What success looks like

In the first six months, we would expect this role to build a strong understanding of the Group structure and priorities, while starting to bring greater clarity and alignment across the brand portfolio and marketing approach. There is a real opportunity here to shape direction early, deliver some quick wins, and build momentum across the organisation.

By twelve to eighteen months, the expectation would be to see clear, measurable impact in areas such as audience growth, income generation and brand visibility, alongside a more defined and embedded marketing function that is set up to support both the charity and commercial aims of the Group.

This role offers a high degree of ownership, and will suit someone who enjoys building, prioritising and making progress across multiple areas, while helping the organisation focus its efforts over time.

Greater Change

Founded in 2018 by Alex McCallion and Jonathan Tan, Greater Change is an NGO providing cash grants to support people to overcome the financial barriers on their pathway out of homelessness using personalised budgets.

We partner with frontline charities and support workers who refer people to us who would benefit from our financial support. The personalised budgets (supported cash transfers) we provide are typically for rent deposits, ID documents, training courses etc. 

On average, Greater Change spends £1,400 per individual and last year 85% of the people we supported sustained their move into stable housing, saving the public purse over £41,000 per person per annum. 

Our goal is ultimately to use personalised budgets as a dignified and effective tool to end homelessness.

Philanthropy Manager 

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, ambitious and relationship-driven Philanthropy Manager to help grow Greater Change’s income, impact, and profile. Reporting to the Head of Growth and working closely with the CEO, this is a hands-on role suited to someone who can be creative and structured.

You will lead key income streams across High Net Worth Individuals, Trusts and Foundations, and fundraising events, delivering high-quality proposals and thoughtful stewardship that strengthens long-term partnerships.

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands how we are maximising impact and cost-effectiveness. You will be able to clearly communicate how our work delivers meaningful outcomes.

Above all, we are looking for someone proactive and thoughtful, who is motivated to play a key role in scaling a high-impact, evidence-led solution to homelessness.

Main Responsibilities

1. Work closely with the CEO on philanthropic relationships, including supporting the Development Board’s engagement, meetings, and follow-ups.

2. Lead all trusts and foundation activity end-to-end, including prospect research, applications and producing reports, while tracking funding deadlines, maintaining a clear pipeline, and providing regular progress updates to the CEO and Head of Growth.

3. Prepare high-quality proposals, cases for support, presentations, and donor communications.

4. Co-lead on developing and maintaining corporate partnerships with the Head of Growth 

5. Manage individual giving, with a focus on donor stewardship and growth.

6. Lead the planning and delivery of fundraising and stewardship events, including stewardship and fundraising events organised by the Greater Change and our Development Board

7. Supporting the Comms team to deliver donor communications across our newsletter and social media channels

• A good understanding of the housing system, homelessness, benefits processes and services which support people who are precariously housed.

CUF wants to build flourishing communities and tackle poverty, by partnering with churches and groups all over England, and we are looking for a Philanthropy Manager to shape and grow a major gifts programme which has been identified as a key opportunity for growth. You will find, and nurture relationships with, philanthropists and non-statutory grant-makers. You’ll develop cases for support and write funding applications (helped by the wider staff team) and will build a robust income pipeline based on relational asks, including in person. About the team

The Philanthropy Team raises income for Impetus and for Impetus partner charities. The team consists of 15 staff. Impetus has an annual income of c.£11 million which we are looking to grow significantly within the next few years. The team is led by the Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships. 

The Philanthropy Team works with major donors, corporates and grant making trusts, as well as collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure we make a compelling case to generate new financial commitments and wider support for our work. The team also deliver a high-quality engagement programme of volunteering and pro bono for Impetus’s corporate supporters.

About this role

This role is a 12‑month maternity cover, supporting an important phase of delivery and development within the Philanthropy team. The postholder will work closely with colleagues to maintain momentum in new business activity while contributing to strategic account management and stewardship. 

The Head of Development is a senior role within the Philanthropy Team, with a primary focus on new business development. This includes identifying, cultivating and securing new funding relationships across trusts, foundations, corporates, co‑investment partners and high‑net‑worth individuals. 

Alongside new business delivery, the role also provides strategic account management for a small portfolio of high-value partners, ensuring smooth transitions from acquisition into long term stewardship. 

This role works alongside the Head of Philanthropy, with both roles contributing to the success of the Philanthropy Team. The Head of Philanthropy leads on deep stewardship and retention, while the Head of Development focusses on new income generation and building relationships with new funders and partners. 

The postholder will work closely with the Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships, Philanthropy Directors as well as Senior Research and Insights Manager, contributing specialist expertise, strong delivery and sound judgement, while operating within agreed strategy and governance frameworks.

​Key responsibilities:

New business development

• Support the Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships and Development Director on the development and delivery of the new business plan in line with the fundraising strategy
• Works with the Senior Research and Insights Manager to identify emerging funding trends, opportunities, market opportunities and best practice
• In collaboration with the Development Director and Growth and Insights Director, lead the delivery of agreed cultivation strategies for priority prospects, proactively progressing relationships from qualification through to solicitation and conversion, leveraging senior stakeholders, board members, donor advocates and wider networks
• Develop and deliver compelling cultivation strategies and tailored pitch plans for priority prospects, including designing and building new donor acquisition vehicles (e.g. committees, cultivation events and targeted communications), working collaboratively with colleagues across Impetus

Fundraising at the Sutton Trust

We are seeking a dynamic and confident Philanthropy Manager to join our high-performing fundraising team. The Sutton Trust is at an exciting point in our organisational journey, with a new Chairperson and ambitions to significantly grow our impact and fundraising as part of our 2030 strategy.

Over the past five years the impact of the Sutton Trust has increased, especially in our programme numbers, securing a relatively stable income of c.£6m over a number of years. In recent years this has grown to c.£7m, and our organisational strategy to 2030/31 will continue this fundraising trajectory to increase income to £12m. With a growing portfolio of philanthropic income from individuals – currently accounting for c.£1.2m – there is considerable enthusiasm and opportunity to build upon existing relationships and establish new ones in support of the work of The Sutton Trust.

Our fundraising approach will continue to focus on major gifts, harnessing and increasing our networks, and multi-year partnerships to leverage a range of drivers to secure philanthropic support. We anticipate utilising the structured giving schemes designed for our individual supporters to build a robust pipeline for future major gifts. This will include a focus on building out our newly refreshed Fellowship scheme and, importantly, working with the Head of Philanthropy to implement a segmented fundraising campaign with our 40,000 strong alumni community. Additionally, there is significant opportunity to build upon recent successes and further develop our approach to legacy fundraising.

Main duties

New Business

• Managing and growing the Trust’s Fellowship scheme through scoping, developing and securing new four and five-figure gifts from individual supporters, working closely with the Director of Development, Head of Philanthropy, and senior volunteers appropriately to secure and steward.

• Work with the Head of Philanthropy to identify and cultivate a prospect pool of potential donors at all levels, including utilising the CRM, current low-level donors, stakeholder network mapping through the Board and Trustees, as well as prospects research of philanthropists with an active interest in education/ social mobility.

• Undertake prospect research across the spectrum of philanthropic income in collaboration with the Head of Philanthropy – including identification, due diligence, qualification, and creating briefings and outreach plans.

• Work with the Head of Alumni Engagement to proactively identify Sutton Trust alumni with the capacity and inclination to support our work, developing meaningful relationships, identifying relevant opportunities to deepen their connection to the Trust, and influencing alums to start and continue their giving journey.

• Work with the Head of Fundraising Operations and Head of Philanthropy to design, implement, and promote a low-level online giving journey, including automated stewardship activation.

• Supporting the Head of Philanthropy to implement a compelling legacy campaign.

• Work with colleagues across the Development team to identify, qualify, cultivate and secure prospects, using resources effectively where there are links between corporates, individuals, and trusts & foundations.

Account Management and Development

• Manage and grow the Trust’s Fellowship major donor scheme, creating meaningful, mutually beneficial and long-term relationships.

• Create meaningful and personalised donor plans for your portfolio, including reporting, regular written updates and in person meetings where appropriate.

• Working with the Director of Development and Head of Philanthropy to support the stewardship and management of the Board, and other major donors.

Person Specification

We welcome applications from individuals who have experience in:

• Experience building and managing donor relationships with individuals giving four-figures and above per annum in a philanthropy team or other fundraising capacity, and through structured giving schemes.

As Philanthropy Officer, you will build strong, lasting relationships with individuals, families and organisations, helping them to achieve their philanthropic goals while increasing charitable income and delivering meaningful impact in communities across Wales.

We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of social issues and community needs in Wales, who can use that insight to build networks, identify opportunities and develop tailored support for existing and prospective donors. Summary

We’re recruiting for a new Head of Fundraising and Communications to build on the growth and development we’ve experienced in recent years, and move us to the next level. Last year we raised £685K through fundraising and are aiming to increase this by 20% a year in the coming years .

You will work closely with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to raise crucial funding, public support and awareness to underpin our organisational strategy, and with colleagues across the organisation to gather and communicate stories and information in a powerful and accessible way.

Key tasks

• Overall oversight of all streams of fundraising.

Their mission is to level the playing field for young people from low-income backgrounds so that they have a fair chance of accessing leading universities, apprenticeships, and jobs. With a three-pronged approach including programmes, research, and policy advocacy, the organisation supports nearly 12,000 young people each year and they have been able to work towards keeping social mobility high in the political agenda.

As the Philanthropy Manager you will predominantly manage the portfolio of Fellows giving at the being £15k, £5k, and £1k per year level, as well as relationships with donors giving much more. The Philanthropy Manager will be responsible for developing the alumni giving campaign and will spot opportunities for further cultivation and donor engagement throughout the philanthropy portfolio of the organisation. The Philanthropy Manager will be a true relationship management and will line manage a Philanthropy Assistant while reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, working closely too with the Director of Development.

To be successful as the Philanthropy Manager you will have experience of building and managing donor relationships with individuals giving four-figures and above per year in a philanthropy team or other fundraising capacity through structured giving schemes. You will have experience of working with key senior colleagues across and organisation to secure major gifts and steward relationships and will have good knowledge of the UK fundraising environment, including trends in philanthropy.

This role is a full-time permanent position that will have hybrid working in the London offices for at least two days per week. The salary for this role is £42,025 to £48,000.
