About the role

We have an opportunity for a Safeguarding Officer to join our very busy team!

The organisation has a strong safeguarding ethos promoting the overall safety, safeguarding and welfare of all of our members. We are seeking individuals who have experience of the voluntary youth or community sector or other relevant professional field and have direct practice experience of working with children & young people in a safeguarding context.  You will have experience and knowledge of statutory requirements, understand Early Help and best practice guidance, relating to the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Our safeguarding team operates centrally in London where we are responsible for providing support, advice and guidance to our volunteers relating on all safeguarding matters across the UK. Our safeguarding Officers act as our lead professionals in managing safeguarding casework in line with our policy, procedures and statutory duty.

We aim high and strive for excellence in our practices to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk.  We are continually evolving and seeking ways to improve and enhance our safeguarding practices and have a number of ambitious plans and projects to support this development as we move forward. 

Whilst this is a Monday- Friday full time position, a flexible approach to work and working patterns is a must, as is the ability to work effectively and respond appropriately in challenging circumstances. 

Some information about the role:

- Support, guide and coach SCC volunteers to implement a local response to safeguarding concerns

- Effective and skilful management of an allocated caseload

- Lead professional – Allegation Management

- Action referrals to statutory agencies e.g. Local Authority Designated Officer, Police, Children’s Services, Social Care or equivalent across the UK (including DBS, PVGS)

Key accountabilities:

· Grow the involvement of the community in driving development of The Charity’s work including support, campaigns, fundraising, research and strategy

· Develop the involvement strategy and engage teams across the organisation to maximise the use of involvement

· Promote, advise on, and facilitate involvement activities including but not limited to focus groups, workshops and developing and undertaking surveys

· Collaborate with our Research team, contributing to the design and implementation of policies relating to research involvement

· Steward and look after the involvement network and develop their experience in a structured way over time

· Manage our Young Ambassador and Involvement Champion programmes

· Ensure we engage all groups including those disadvantaged and less heard from

· Innovate in involvement by bringing in ideas from others and developing partnerships across the wider ecosystem, in the field of brain tumours and outside the sector

Experience:

Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth (CAML) is the leading advice charity supporting individuals and families primarily across the London boroughs of Lambeth and Merton but also wider London.  We provide a range of information, support and advice services.  We also work to raise awareness and understanding of the challenging issues affecting our clients and communities.

We are looking for an experienced Adviser/Caseworker or Supervisor to join our team in this new role.  If you are passionate about supporting individuals and families in need, relish supporting valued team members to reach their potential, have minimum of one year Citizens Advice Adviser (post certification) experience, are a natural team leader, enjoy delivering training and are interested in joining a dedicated professional team we would love to hear from you.

This role will support people with mental health difficulties referred by South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) as part of their Community Transformation Programme. The service will support adults aged 18 years and over living in Merton who are experiencing mental health challenges and the carers of those individuals.

You will deliver a service providing advice for people that are referred from the Trust’s Single Point of Access (SPA) and other teams. You will manage an active caseload of people, providing a comprehensive advice and casework service to people experiencing mental health issues on issues such as benefits, income maximisation, debt and housing.

The service will also support people to access a range of opportunities in their community including services that support their social and emotional well-being, employment and volunteering opportunities and money and debt advice if needed.

The role will work in partnership with a team of health professionals and peer support workers, part of the role will be in supporting these professionals to identify where referrals are appropriate through feedback. Initial training will also be provided to all professionals on what outcomes we can achieve for service users.

Principal Responsibilities

Advice and casework

• Offer one off advice and casework (as applicable) to all clients referred via face to face appointments, online or telephone

• Ensure all clients are aware of the purpose and where to attend their appointment

• Ensure that all casework conforms to the Citizens Advice quality standards.

• Maintain case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation.

• Ensure that all work conforms to our systems and procedures.

• Interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.

• Being sensitive to clients’ needs and limitations to access support.

• Ensure income maximisation through the appropriate take up of income and application for discounts, including those relating to utilities, benefits, tax and housing.

• Provide full budgeting advice and where necessary refer for specialist debt advice and casework

• Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions. Act for the client where necessary using appropriate communication skills and channels.

• Assist clients with other related problems where they are an integral part of their case and refer to other adviser/s (for example DRO intermediary) or specialist agencies as appropriate.

• Ensure that all work conforms to Financial Conduct Authority standards, the Advice Quality Standard and the requirements of the funder.

Project Management, co-ordination and partnerships

• Attend health management meetings (e.g. the Daily Integrated Allocations Meeting (DIAM) for referral discussions)

• Establish and manage an effective referral process from the SPA team and other SWLSTG teams/roles (e.g. Older Peoples Mental Health Team OPMH

• Keep in touch with local issues, developments and changes in procedures of other agencies including SWLSTG, other health service and the local authority. 

• Build relationships with peer support workers on the project

• Work to achievable targets in line with the criteria set by the funder.

• Refer clients to other advice services CAML offers and/or other local services for other associated issues e.g immigration advice

• Gather statistics and feedback in order to monitor and evaluate the service, ensuring that appropriate monitoring and data collection mechanisms are in place to demonstrate impact, outputs and outcomes and providing reports as required to the steering group, funders, and partners.

• Work with Head of Advice Services to produce reports and monitoring information about the service for the funder.

• Ensure that work reflects and supports the Citizens Advice service's equality and diversity strategy.

Capacity Building and Training

• Deliver information sessions for peer support workers and NHS mental health teams to share knowledge about mental health and advice

Research & Campaigns

• Have responsibility for tracking and reporting on research and campaign issues. Assist with policy work by providing information about clients' circumstances.

• Gather and provide as necessary information about clients circumstances, case studies and statistical information on the number of clients and nature of cases where is an issue.

• Monitor service provision to ensure that it reaches the widest possible client group.

Professional Development

This is an exciting time for Haberdashers’ Girls’ School and Haberdashers’ Boys’ School. While they remain largely autonomous institutions with their own cultures and traditions, they are undertaking ambitious joint fundraising and alumni relations activities for the first time in their histories. This effort is led by a small but dynamic development & alumni relations team working across both schools.

Overview

The Fundraising Database Manager plays a key role within the team, with overall responsibility for the administration and oversight of the Raiser's Edge donor/alumni database, gift processing and alumni networking platforms across both schools. Responsibilities include maintaining the integrity of the data and ensuring it is up to date, optimising the database for fundraising appeals, generating reports and queries, providing professional support and training to users, processing all gifts and claiming Gift Aid. The database manager is also responsible for ensuring the department complies with all relevant data protection regulations

You are a motivated and highly organised self-starter, with a knack for methodical problem-solving, enthusiasm for the potential of data to drive effective fundraising and alumni relations, and a meticulous attention to detail. Beyond optimising and managing the database, you will also take the lead in implementing new financial and operational procedures which will make our fundraising and alumni relations work more efficient and effective, and which will be easy for less tech-minded team members to adopt and sustain.

You are comfortable extracting, interrogating and reporting on data to help inform strategy, always looking for ways to use and improve your skills and experience to make an impact. You will have a sophisticated understanding of how to export, import and (where warranted) merge multiple datasets. We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, solution focussed finance professional to join our central team as Finance Manager. Used to taking day to day transaction processing in your stride, you’ll use your experience to support preparation of the management accounts and be part of ensuring that we have the business information needed for decision making across the charity. New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.

Purpose of Role

The Finance Business Partner is the bridge between Finance and the other Directorates we support. The focus of the role is to provide finance expertise to budget holders to help them to understand their financial information and make informed decisions about their areas.

It is someone who truly partners with budget holders, to understand the key drivers, needs and priorities of different areas of the organisation and works with the relevant stakeholders to deliver our ambitious strategic goals.

The role

Support to budget holders:

• Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of all areas of the organisation.
• Establish strong relationships with and become the finance point of contact for budget holders with queries.
• Review monthly performance with budget holders and agree any revisions that are needed.
• Provide high quality financial support and training to budget holders on processes to develop effective budget management and controls.
• Implement and maintain strong business processes to support record-keeping, analysis, and good decision-making.

Monthly reporting process:

• Support the Head of Finance with month end process, to include: reconciliation of legacy funding with outsourced support organisation, accruals and prepayments.
• Run and review cost centre reports prior to sharing with budget holders.
• Distribute cost centre reports to budget holders and discuss variances .
• Compile incorrect transactions from budget holders and post correcting journals. Investigate reasons for mispostings and instigate corrective action.
• Produce management accounts and related variance analysis for Executive Leadership Team.

Budget and quarterly forecasts:

• Lead and coordinate the annual budget process, 3-year planning and quarterly reforecasting.
• Produce templates and guidance to support budget holders with budgeting and forecasts.
• Arrange meetings to discuss and support budget holders with completion of templates.
• Work with the Chief of Staff to align the annual budget and business planning processes.

Funder proposals and reports:

• Support Fundraising team and Programme implementation teams with proposals to funders.
• Work with budget holders to develop and maintain list of funding, timelines and reporting requirements.
• Prepare financial reports for external funders.

Ongoing support:

• Work closely with the Fundraising team to improve and strengthen reconciliations, reporting and system links between the CRM system (Salesforce) and the Finance System.
• Develop and deliver training to staff and volunteers on finance processes and understanding financial information.

• Support with the development and monitoring compliance of the financial policies and processes and controls.
• Support Finance process improvement activities.

Finance team tasks:

• Creation of and running reports and transaction queries from SUN systems using Q&A.
• Managing quarterly VAT return process.
• Support annual external audit to include preparation of schedules and financial statements/notes.

Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required of the post holder by the Ramblers.

The person 

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CiPFA or equivalent formal qualification) or in the final stage of qualification.

Knowledge and Experience

• Substantial experience of charity fund accounting (SORP).
• Knowledge & extensive experience of finance systems (SUN systems desirable)
• Knowledge of CRM systems (Salesforce desirable).
• Experience of business partnering in the charity sector, working with budget holders to prepare departmental and project budgets and forecasts.
• Experience of communicating complex financial information effectively to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Substantial experience of producing management accounts and variance analysis.
• Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with individuals, groups, organisations and stakeholders internally and externally.
• Experience of dealing with charity VAT.
