We’re looking for a Head of Finance to lead and support our finance function for six months, ensuring that the organisation receives an excellent finance service.

About this role:
As Head of Finance, you will:

• take day-to-day responsibility for the finance and accounting functions, ensuring systems are working effectively, suppliers are paid, payroll is completed, and ensure the new finance system meets the needs of the organisation,
• line manage and develop a team of finance professionals, ensuring an effective financial service is provided to the organisation through their expertise, championing continuous improvement,
• be accountable for the effectiveness of the charity’s annual budgeting and forecasting, and contribute to the updating of our five-year strategic plan.

About you:
To be successful in this role, you will need to be an experienced, qualified accountant who is comfortable working in large, complex organisations. You’ll need the ability to lead a dynamic team of finance professionals, from day-to-day support to professional development. Stakeholder engagement is a big part of this role, so you should feel comfortable working across the organisation with different teams and ‘breaking down barriers’ to develop key relationships. About this team:
The purpose of the Finance Department is to support the rest of Dogs Trust in achieving the strategic aims of the charity. They work to ensure financial (and non-financial) systems and controls function effectively and limit the exposure of the charity to related risks, providing accurate, timely financial information and of course, paying suppliers in a timely fashion.

About you and the role

The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to ensure that financial planning is effective and supported by accurate data analysis. You will be joining the team during a period of growth in the size and complexity of our delivery. We currently have 20 employees and anticipate doubling in size within three years. You will have a crucial role in shaping our systems and processes to ensure we can scale effectively, both our existing programmes and a new membership-based programme that is in development. Key responsibilities:

• Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities

• Reviewing suitability of our current systems: Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc.

• Where necessary, identifying and implementing new software to ensure all systems and processes are robust, user friendly, deliver useful data analysis, integrate and/or improve automation

• Working closely with the Director of Transformations to translate the annual activity plan into an accurate organisational-level budget

Skills & experience:

• You have some experience in a senior finance role (eg Director, Head of, Management Accountant) in any sector, and some experience within a finance function in the 3rd sector (in particular familiarity with the Charity SORP and experience of administering restricted funds)

The Head of Marketing & Sales plays a pivotal role in driving the organisation’s growth. We are in our third year of running our YAG and yet to launch our Alumni offer. This role will therefore involve leading the implementation, development, and growth of the membership of both DFN Project SEARCH YAG and Alumni group. This will include planning and facilitating a programme of activities throughout the year for YAG and Alumni members, which we hope will be a mix of in person and online events.

This post holder will also provide ongoing training to YAG, Alumni and parent/carer members and facilitate their participation in our advocacy work. There will also be opportunities to deliver training to our central and partner teams alongside members of these groups

The successful candidate will lead strategic, high-impact external communications across the organisation. They will work closely with our global team across 30 countries involved in research and analysis. They will bring talent, enthusiasm, knowledge and experience. This role currently manages a team of five and reports to the Executive Director. The communications team is tasked to ensure strategic and effective media, social media, and delivery of our digital platform to drive change.

• Digital action platform and technology: Work with the Web Content and Digital Officer to manage the development of the Resource Centre’s leading multi-functional digital platform, and our substantial data as compelling evidence. Develop an understanding of the organisation’s target audiences and ensure we deliver features that effectively support them to effectively organise and present their research data and promote human rights in business.
• Programme design and fundraising: Work with our development (fundraising) team and programme leads to ensure communications, and digital technology work is built into project design and budget, and that funders’ information needs are well-served.

Key competencies and attributes

Strategic communication: At least 5 years’ experience delivering top class communications and expert understanding of how strategic communications deliver change. Demonstrable experience in strategy design and execution. Sharp news sense and editorial judgement; strong grasp of the power of social media to make change happen; and a global perspective to communications.

People manager: At least 3 years’ experience in line management. Experience in nurturing and sustaining a high performing team that thrives in a diverse, and global context. Demonstrable success in supporting project teams to deploy communications strategically for impact.

Project manager: Track record of leading and/or implementing complex communications projects including planning, execution, and evaluation. Demonstratable success planning communications for a busy organisation working closely with allies.

Digital technology & data: Experience of design and delivery of website, digital tools, and data to make change happen. Experience of working with developers to manage and maintain a website.

Human rights, and economic justice expertise: Familiarity with social justice or human rights issues and a willingness to keep up to date. Experience communicating economic justice and human rights issues desirable.

Team player: Experience of, and commitment to, working in high-performing teams that are highly collaborative and focused on outcomes. Experience of working with colleagues remotely, and in multicultural and diverse working environments desirable.

Networking: Track record of developing strategic relationships to enhance communications and advocacy efforts, e.g. civil society partners, consultants, journalists, opinion-formers. Experience building relationships of trust and joint action with allied organisations is strongly desirable.

We are seeking an experienced community engagement professional with a demonstrable track record of team leadership, inspiring education and engagement outcomes and successful grant fundraising.

The Head of Engagement will provide maternity cover for approximately 13 months and work as part of the Senior Leadership Team at SERT to drive how we influence, engage and empower people and communities to value and protect rivers in the South East.

You will bring experience of working across a range of income generation areas and activities, including membership, HNWIs, corporate, and trusts and foundations. It is essential that candidates demonstrate their ability to identify, build and maintain strong donor, sponsor and supporter relationships. You should also be familiar with managing engagement and communications programmes, particularly through digital means.
