Head of Finance and Operations

Location: The role is based at the Trust’s office in West Berkshire with a minimum of three days per week expected to be worked at our Newbury office. Flexible working arrangements are available with the understanding that this must meet the objectives of the charity and requirements of the role.

Purpose

This is an exciting and vital role performing a range of finance and governance tasks, working within the Senior Leadership Team of a leading mental health charity focused on supporting children and young people.

The Head of Finance and Operations (HFO) will be responsible for the successful management of the charity finances and operations, as well as making a leading contribution to the  charity’s strategic direction.  The role is responsible to the CEO, and activity oversight spans finance, HR, IT, and office management. The HFO is also responsible to the Trustees for the financial state of the charity and as Company Secretary. As a result, the HFO must working closely with the treasurer, members of the finance and investment committee, as well as the senior leadership team and our existing finance and operation colleagues.

We are looking for an highly motivated, efficient, diligent and confident finance professional with experience of managing a team. The role is varied and would suit a qualified accountant with experience of working collaboratively and compassionately with a range of colleagues to achieve organisational objectives. Key responsibilities and duties

Strategy, modelling and leadership

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive financial strategy supporting the organisation’s wider strategic plan.
• Provide guidance and leadership on short and long-term financial decisions.
• Develop and monitor the implementation of long-range financial plans with the CEO, Board of Trustees and the Finance and Investment committee, to support organisational sustainability and growth.
• Provide leadership (including line management of at least one member of staff) to our small but invaluable finance and operations team comprising our finance and operations manager, finance assistant, and our office and IT coordinator.

Financial and Operational Management

• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organisation’s mission, vision and priorities.
• Streamline and optimise operational processes and systems to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability while availing technological advancement. This includes systems, IT, CRM, Facilities and supplier management.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO, the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees.
• Monitor financial performance, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.
• Optimise and manage the Trust’s working capital and cash flow position.
• Maintain appropriate financial records and oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual reports and financial statements in accordance with UK accounting standards, Charity Commission and company law requirements.
• Ensure necessary insurances and contracts are in place and provide required liability and other coverages.
• Develop and manage strong and effective relationships with external auditors, the bank, the treasurer, and other key partners.

• Overall leadership and accountability for IT, Digital and Business Systems infrastructure, including appropriate data protection requirements.

We are looking for a talented fundraiser, with a background in the cultural sector to join the Gardens, Libraries & Museums (GLAM) Team within the Development and Alumni Engagement team of the University of Oxford.

This is a new role for Emmaus Bristol. Through our five-year-planning process we identified a new staffing
structure that will allow our charity to thrive and to grow. The Head of Resources is needed so that the core organisation runs smoothly, and policies, processes and systems allow the team to do their jobs efficiently and effectively. This will be crucial as we develop new streams of work, and help more people out of homelessness or into work.

The Head of Resources therefore, will have a key role to play in making Emmaus Bristol an effective charity.

This is a senior leadership role, but as we are a small charity, all roles are somewhat hands-on. You’ll need to be as confident discussing our reserves policy with trustees, as you would be resolving a cash discrepancy with a retail team member, and just as good at strategy as you are at detail.

Last year we saw a 133% growth in the numbers of young people facing homelessness coming through our doors. Now, nearly half of them are - or recently have been - sleeping rough and with the numbers of young rough sleepers in the capital growing at an alarming rate, New Horizon Youth Centre has had to take decisive action to unlock support and housing for this group. The Head of Services - Rough Sleeping is a brand-new role for the organisation and will lead on developing a new internal strategy for young people facing rough sleeping, as well as holding operational oversight of our established youth-specific street outreach function and emergency accommodation hub, both of which are unique in London. You will need to be strategic in approach and an excellent relationship builder. You will act as our lead colleague on relationships with the Greater London Authority and London Councils’ rough sleeping teams, working with them to ensure our learning and insights inform policy and ultimately open up access to emergency support for those under 25. Alongside this you will need a keen eye for operational detail, have experience of delivering homelessness services, and be passionate about piloting new solutions to prevent homelessness among young people. We are an independent local charity based in Bosham, Chichester, offering a wide range of services to support our patients, and their loved ones, who are living with a life limiting or terminal illness.

The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of local people and we support over 330 patients at any one time between our Inpatient Unit and Community teams. The majority of this care is funded by the support given to us by our local community.

Being Head of Fundraising at St Wilfrid’s

As Head of Fundraising, you’ll be leading an incredible team of 12 dedicated fundraising staff who, along with the support of our event volunteers, work tirelessly to support our Hospice. Their dedication to, and care for, our supporters generates over £4 million annually, which is vital for funding our care.

This role is pivotal in ensuring our fundraising department thrives, and you will be responsible for balancing income generation with cost control, team leadership, and collaborating closely with our marketing and retail heads as one of our department leads. The team will be stewarding our amazing supporters and donors across fundraising areas such as Events, Community, Gifts in Wills, Corporate, Individual Giving, Trusts and Foundations, and Philanthropy.

Experience at a senior level in managing a varied and innovative fundraising environment, with a £2 million+ turnover, is crucial. But, more importantly, you must have a passion, and drive, for empowering teams and achieving meaningful results. The ever-evolving landscape of charity fundraising makes this an incredibly exciting opportunity to make a profound difference.

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. The Services Manager will be the key operational lead for the Alliance, and oversee successful delivery of housing casework services to young people fleeing violence and exploitation who are referred in. You should have experience of working in services that support young people fleeing violence or who are impacted by the criminal justice system, and have a solid understanding of housing options for young people under 25. You should be exceptionally well organised and have excellent partnership management skills.

Salary: £37,024 - £41,600

New Horizon Youth Centre runs a busy day centre from Monday to Friday, providing basic needs to young people experiencing homelessness and a one-stop-shop for housing advice, youth work activities, counselling, jobs, education and training support. The Services Manager (Day Centre) is a brand new role for the organisation. They will work as part of the existing Youth Work Team to provide vital additional capacity and expertise to respond to the significantly increased demand we have been experiencing. This role is primarily focused on delivering our frontline day centre service each week. You will spend around 2-3 days per week frontline as our Duty Manager ensuring the smooth running of the day centre. You’ll also be responsible for coordinating our weekly rota, line managing the team, overseeing our Locums, Students and Volunteers programme, supporting with donations and day centre stock, and delivering staff training . You should be passionate about supporting young people who are unsafe or facing homelessness, be able to motivate a multi-disciplinary team of staff and have the energy to problem solve in a fast-paced environment on a daily basis. 

Salary: £37,024 - £41,600

The Services Manager (Housing) will primarily focus on the managing New Horizon's Housing Advice service, delivered both from the day centre and remotely. You will work with the Head of Services to ensure the service responds holistically to young people with multiple needs or barriers.  You should be experienced in the housing and homelessness sector, be a passionate advocate for young people. and have the ability to motivate a team to deliver high quality services in a fast-paced environment. You should be skilled in partnership management and able to collaborate to identify new housing solutions for young people.
