Age UK Notts are seeking individuals who would like to be considered as a volunteer for our Companion Service.
Volunteers will be supporting people in their own homes and in the community within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ideally, we ask all applicants to provide a minimum of 1 hour volunteering a week.
The companion service volunteer can choose to be:
• A companion within the person’s home
• A companion outside the person’s home
Examples of the type of support the service offers include:
• Supporting an older person/s hobbies and interests or simply chatting with them in their own home on a regular basis.
• Supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.
• Supporting the person outside of their home e.g., by accompanying them on a walk, to the shops, to a café, garden centre, theatre or cinema or other social activities / community groups.
• Where appropriate, supporting the older person to access other services through information and signposting or referring to the Companion Service Coordinator for support.
We are looking for the following skills/interests:
• Individuals with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people who are committed to volunteering on a regular basis.
• Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly.
• Ability to travel for visits in the local community either by car or public transport for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.
• Digital literacy for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.
We are looking for volunteers with good daytime availability in specific areas of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Our key initiatives are:
Addressing financial hardship by running a food club, hosting a food bank and providing a Community Fridge, using surplus food collected from local supermarkets and making it accesible to local residents, also saving tonnes of food ending up as waste. During the winter we provide a 'warm hub'
Improving Wellbeing including activities to address social isolation for example a community allotment, bee keeping, chatty tables, Craft tables, games evenings and a Cinema Club -aimed at reducing social isolation in the elderly. We have a number of mental health initiatives and have trained 20 Community Champions - who can give basic advice on mental and physical health issues. We organise various community events for example an Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Fayre and Coach outing to the coast.
Community Enablement Signposting to support, including access to Citizens advice, food bank and support groups. Employment support - provided by partners at the Hub to assist path to employment and increase employability. Up-skilling and training of volunteers and Lead volunteers to put skills back into our community, IT support
The Board is currently composed of six trustees and two associate trustees. We employ a manager, four part time office staff and three caretakers who conduct the work of the charity. There are about 60 volunteers and 20 Wellbeing Champions involved in the Hub, carrying out activities such as IT support, reception duties, Repair cafe etc. During the winter months we run a 'Warm Hub' where people of reduced means can receive a cup of tea, biscuits and a friendly welcome.
As Chairman of the Board of Trustees you will play a vital role in shaping the future direction of the charity, and securing it's success in challenging the social inequalities faced by the community of Merstham.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be a part of the Catering Team. To assist with the preparation and service of nutritious food to our Members, maintaining Health & Safety and kitchen hygiene standards
Description of tasks
Food Preparation – catering for daily lunches and internal and events, tasks include prepping, cooking, dishing up and serving, washing up and clearing up kitchen. Ingredients will be cooked, from fresh, frozen, or tinned stock to create healthy meat and vegetarian/vegan dishes. To assist with periodic intensive cleaning of the catering space.
Time Commitment
3 months with end of season review to continue.
Flexible one day a week either on:
Mondays 10-2.30pm
or
Wednesdays 10-2.30pm
Skills and Qualifications
This role would suit someone who enjoys cooking and working as part of a team
A basic level of cooking knowledge and ability to follow instruction is essential.
Some experience or a desire to work with vulnerable women who have been through the Criminal Justice System or at risk of offending.

Who We’re Looking For

- Charity Governance & Legal Oversight Understanding of fiduciary duties, legal responsibilities, and governance frameworks within the UK charity sector.
- Regulatory Compliance & Volunteer Law Familiarity with contracts, safeguarding, and legal considerations relevant to managing volunteers in high-risk environments.
- Policy Review & Development Experience in reviewing, updating, and implementing charity policies to ensure they are compliant, practical, and aligned with best practice—especially in areas such as health & safety and volunteer conduct.
- Volunteer Management & Support Insight into recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers—especially in physically demanding and emotionally intense roles.
- Leadership & Change Management Proven ability to lead teams, mentor others, and guide organisations through growth or transition.
- Health & Safety in Outdoor Rescue Experience with risk assessments, incident reporting, and compliance with safety regulations in outdoor or emergency settings.

Young Company Volunteer
Responsible to

Purpose/Summary of role
We are looking for two enthusiastic volunteers to be a part of the Young Company programme. To support the development, confidence, and wellbeing of young women aged 18-25 through engaging group activities, acting, drama, rehearsals, theatre skills training and a safe, inclusive environment. This role is a one-yearplacement. October 2025- July 2026
Description of tasks
Key Responsibilities:
- · Build positive working relationships with young people
- · Assist with the lead facilitator(s) workshops, group games, or discussions
- · Provide a listening ear and positive encouragement
- · Ensure safeguarding policies are followed at all times
- · Assist fellow volunteer and lead facilitator(s) with setup and tidying of the space
- Encourage young people’s participation and creativity
Time Commitment
Acting, drama and theatre skills training
These sessions will be delivered by our, Drama School partners and Clean Break Artists. The Young Company Support Worker will be on hand for any support needs outside of the space.

The Company will rehearse and perform a short play by Emma Dennis Edwards, commissioned playwright for the Young Company. The play will be directed by Clean Break’s Associate Artistic Director and will be produced at a London venue, for audiences of loved ones, peers and public.

The Board is responsible for our strategic direction and governance, ensuring we achieve our charitable objects and are well run. It is a demanding but highly rewarding volunteer role, one in which you will make a difference to the lives of thousands of people. We are currently looking for an experienced finance professional to join our Board as Treasurer/Finance Trustee and also head up the finance subcommittee. The Treasurer plays a key role in overseeing the charity’s financial health and ensuring the Board can make informed, responsible decisions.
You may be a qualified accountant or have equivalent knowledge gained by experience. We are ideally looking for someone with experience in charity finances who is able to take a strategic approach to financial planning and oversight and to help non-financial colleagues understand these.
Previous trustee experience isn’t required, and you will be supported into the role through an onboarding and induction process.

Are you a friendly, patient, and supportive individual who loves to connect with people?
As a Club Support Assistant, you will be on the front lines, directly engaging with our club members during sessions. You'll play a vital role in creating a warm, inclusive, and fun atmosphere, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and encouraged to participate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcoming and Engaging: Greet club members as they arrive, help them settle in, and ensure they feel comfortable and included.
- Encouragement and Support: Provide positive encouragement and support to members as they choose songs, take turns singing, and interact with each other.
- Facilitating Participation: Assist members with selecting songs, navigating the karaoke equipment (with guidance), and gently encouraging participation in singing and social activities.
- Creating a Positive Atmosphere: Help maintain an energetic, respectful, supportive environment where friendships can grow.
- General Assistance: Support the Music Leader and Singing Tutor with practical tasks during sessions, such as setting up/packing away equipment, managing song queues, and ensuring smooth transitions.
- Safeguarding: Be aware of and adhere to the club's safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
We're Looking For Someone Who Is:
- Naturally compassionate, patient, and empathetic.
- Friendly, approachable, and a good listener.
- Enthusiastic about music and community.
- Reliable and punctual.
