Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) is seeking our next Executive Director to lead our small, dynamic charity. You will be joining an impactful local organisation at a crucial time in our development. Since 2021 we have grown significantly and sustainably, developing new services based on client needs. You will be leading a highly competent and passionate team who are community minded and experts in their fields. 

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the charity, including finance and fundraising, as well as supporting the development and delivery of services. They will work with four experienced project leads to deliver and develop our core services: Casework and Advocacy Service, Rainbow Club Supplementary School, Destitution Service and Food Bank, and our Allotment of Refuge, as well as our Policy and external influencing work led by our Deputy Director for Casework and Policy. 

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate who can balance the demands of strategic leadership with the operational execution and development of our services and policy work. We are seeking someone with a high level of operational skill and accountability in operational management and governance. You will be responsible for the central services of the charity including finance, fundraising, legal, HR and communications. We are looking for a thoughtful leader who is passionate about staff and volunteer support. You should have experience and understanding of small charities and the external context within which we operate.

Founded in 2004, AFRIL supports refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to lift themselves out of poverty, assert their rights, and rebuild their lives in the heart of our community. We provide both crisis support to meet immediate need, and longer-term, flexible programmes to tackle the underlying issues that result in poverty. We engage in policy and legal interventions to affect change. Our work is grounded in the values of professionalism, inclusivity, and solidarity, and our approach to service delivery is one of co-production and empowerment. We work with partners locally and nationally to deliver high quality services and advocacy.

Our Services:

• Casework and Advocacy – AQS and IAA accredited advice, casework and legal interventions in housing and homelessness, complex welfare rights, community care, asylum support,  immigration, access to education and employment, healthcare and related matters. 

• Destitution Project - supporting families to overcome extreme food poverty through regular food vouchers, fresh culturally appropriate food, toiletries, and essential household items plus small grants and a free café.

• Rainbow Club Saturday School - improving educational attainment, wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem, and raising the aspirations of disadvantaged primary age children. 

• Allotment of Refuge - a welcoming and integrated community of food growers improving the health, wellbeing and healthy food access of children and adults seeking sanctuary in Lewisham.

• Immigration Project in partnership with Southwark Law Centre - free legal advice and representation to support families to regularise their UK immigration status in the UK.

In addition, we hold a monthly Members Forum, and use the evidence from our frontline work together with the testimony of our members to influence improved policy and practice.

AFRIL is currently in a good position, with the several long-term grants and statutory funding secured, and good relationships with community and individual donors. The Role

The Forbes Mellon Librarian has overall responsibility for the management, development, and planning of the Forbes Mellon Library, Law Reading Rooms, and College Archives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality academic support to students, Fellows, staff, and external researchers.

The Forbes Mellon Librarian leads the library team, represents the College in intercollegiate and Cambridge University library forums, and ensures that the College’s library and academic skills contribution integrates with that of the wider University.

The hours of work will be 36.25 per week with flexibility required during term-time and peak academic periods.

About the role

This post will work as part of a community partnership programme, a small team providing accessible and bespoke perinatal care including, antenatal education, postnatal sessions, peer support, counselling and practical support to women from low-income migrant marginalised backgrounds. 

The role will provide non-judgmental, compassionate and trauma-informed care to women accessing the service helping them to navigate complex needs and overcome barriers to access through a creative, solution-focused approach. Working alongside the Perinatal Programme Manager building and maintaining a network of local support services, helping to develop clear referral pathways and strong partner relationships.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

• Experience of supporting or working with marginalised or vulnerable groups and understanding the barriers they face to accessing support and an awareness of ways in overcoming them  

• Knowledge and experience working or volunteering with women and birthing people during pregnancy and early years  

• Experience working within a relevant sector e.g., maternity, children’s services, homelessness, women’s services, mental health, supporting asylum and refugee families

• A good knowledge and understanding of local support and services for the client group
• Experience in empowering women to make informed decisions about their lives and advocating for their needs and rights

• Ability to handle challenging situations and behaviour with a calm, flexible and confident approach to reach a positive resolution

• Able to work reflectively, developing an awareness of any judgements, biases or assumptions that may impact upon your work.

About the role

Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Engagement team as our Campaigns Manager. This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week. This role will a hybrid position working between home and our office in King's Cross, London, with a minimum of 2 office days a week.

Sense campaigns to create a fairer society for disabled people and their families. Sense campaigns focus on the issues that matter most to the people we support, from the cost-of-living to social care. They are aimed at driving public awareness, engagement and positive change in people’s lives. We are looking for an experienced campaigner who is passionate about driving change, and able to lead organisational projects. You will play a leading role in campaign strategy for the organisation and help Sense really make an impact for disabled people and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead on the development and delivery of Sense campaigns, working alongside the Head of Media & Campaigns and Head of Policy, Public Affairs and Research.
• Decide on campaign priorities and make recommendations on the most appropriate course of actions to achieve Sense’s campaigning and influencing strategy.
• Ensure Sense has a consistent narrative and that disabled people and their families remain at the heart of our campaigns, that Sense is a sector leader in terms of campaigning, and that we are compliant with new charity regulations.
• Lead on the evaluation and reporting back of campaigns to the team and wider organisation.
• Provide leadership and expertise around campaigning strategy and management to senior management and trustees.
• Be an active member of the Media & Campaigns management team, ensuring team and project plans and budgets are developed, managed and reported against.

Key skills and experience

• A passion and commitment to Sense’s purpose and values, with a genuine interest in and understanding of the issues and policies affecting our work and the individuals we support.
• Significant experience of campaigning work, designed to achieve change, that generates support and mobilises supporters.
• Demonstrable ability to develop, maintain and negotiate effective working relationships with groups and individuals with differing perspectives and agendas, and of working with other organisations on joint campaigns and coalitions.
• Detailed understanding of online and offline campaigning techniques, and knowledge of using campaign planning tools to ensure the success of campaigns.
• Understanding of the value of involving disabled people and their families at all stages of campaigning.
• Ability to project manage, including personal time management, planning, implementing, devising and prioritising multiple projects to meet agreed deadlines and targets, overseeing work across teams and monitoring and evaluating quality and impact.

Job description

Treasures Foundation provides housing and support for women recovering from addiction, trauma, and involvement with the criminal justice system. We help women rebuild their lives through safe housing, access to essential services, and programmes focused on rehabilitation and long-term recovery. Our mission is to empower women to thrive in their communities and build a brighter future.

We are now seeking a Full Time and/or Part Time Keyworker to join our expanding Treasures team. 

Key Responsibilities

The Keyworker will report directly to the Specialist Support Manager and will play a critical role in maintaining the effective running of Treasures Foundation’s supported housing. The core responsibilities include:

Beneficiary support

·  Undertaqking key working activities including: referrals, risk assessments, support
planning

· Support beneficiaries communicating with them about their day or any difficulties that arise for them

·Take a holistic approach to support beneficiary needs, seeking and highlighting opportunities for change at the individual’s and project level

·  Fostering a holistic approach to supporting beneficiaries needs, seeking and
highlighting opportunities for change at the individual’s and project/ organisational
level

·   Jointly developing and delivering a group programme which meets the needs of the women
and aims of the project, such as effective communication and conflict resolution

·   Developing individual key work plans alongside the beneficiary and offering them
appropriate support to implement them

·  Supporting the beneficiaries to access voluntary work, extra-curricular activities and
educational courses

Reporting and Compliance

· Verbal and written handover to other staff

· Use on call if needed in an emergency

·  Ensure our monitoring system Lamplight is up to date

· Complete online training

· Gather data for monitoring and evaluation

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a passion for working in the charity sector. They will be proactive, solution-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in a sometimes challenging environment.

Essential Skills and Experience:

·  Flexible attitude with the ability to understand and implement policies and procedures, keeping the beneficiary at the heart of the work

· Demonstrable experience of lone working in a similar environment

· Excellent organisational and time-management skills

· Strong communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to other staff members

· IT literate

Desirable Skills and Experience:

· Evidence of trauma informed qualifications or experience
