VOLUNTARY (UNPAID)
We operate two small, World War 2 Heritage Centres; one in Dunkeswell and one Near Upottery (Smeatharpe) in Devon.
Ideally we are looking for local, friendly and approachable people with some spare time, to work as one of a pair, particularly on a Sunday and maybe other days as holiday relief or in case of sickness. Our usual opening times are: Thursday to Sunday, 1100 to 1600. The start of our season is Good Friday and it ends on the last Sunday in October.
An interest in history would be an advantage to you (especially WW2) but you would be surrounded by the history of that Heritage Centre in text and pictures so it is immediately accessible and easy to point visitors towards. You would work with an experienced person and would have training and briefings first.

Brief
Helping to educate over 4,000 students a year is a rewarding task, and the Education team brings the past centuries back to life for children.
This front of house role is for you if you are approachable, know a thing or two about our local history and enjoying working with children and young people. No past teaching experience required!
Purpose of Role
Under the direction of the Education and Outreach Officer there are several tasks that are carried out:
· To deliver high quality educational visits to schools of different age groups and abilities by leading site tours and education sessions that are part of the school visit
· To be an ambassador of Milton Keynes Museum by informing our visitors about the Museum and the collection
Key elements
After relevant training has been provided:
· Help to prepare for and deliver guided tours and educational sessions as part of a school’s fixed learning visit, using Museum exhibits, interactive activities and storytelling
· Able to adapt your delivery to children of different abilities and age groups: keeping time and maintaining student engagement
· Facilitating and supervising family activities and workshops
· Support of other educational activities / group bookings
· Creating educational resources and notify the Education and Outreach Officer of any materials and resources that are worn or out of order
· Maintain Health and Safety standards and follow the procedure for reporting incidents and hazards
Your profile
What we are looking for:
· Interest in the museum, its historic collections and its ongoing story
· Strong communication skills and confidence in conversing to the public
· An understanding of how children learn and an ability to adapt your communication style to suit different age ranges and learning needs
· Ability to work as part of a dedicated team and individually
· Common sense and initiative
· No prior teaching experience, but an ability to enthuse and facilitate learning

Duties:
This is a selection of tasks the learning team undertake. Help with all or with just one or two is welcome:
• Welcome and assist a variety of groups, providing a high standard service
•Lead a small group in a practical activity or object handling session
• Guide and inform about The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey
• Ensuring the learning resources and equipment are well cared for
• Support the development and wider use of the Education Resources collection forloaning to local organisations
• Help with planning and/or delivering family school holiday craft activities
• Contribute to development and improvement of new school and family learning activities
Optional duties:

The Cultural Me is a platform for arts and culture with a focus on discovering practical solutions for mental wellbeing, leisure and travel.
We are looking for writers to research and write micro-articles (roughly 750 words), on selected subjects, for example, a piece on Tolstoy, or Early Renaissance to Contemporary Art, or Latin American magic realism to Postcolonial Literature, or Sri Lankan culture, or Beethoven, or Film... You will also be involved in editing contributions from other writers.
If you have never written professionally before, then don't worry: all we ask for is a Bachelor’s Degree in the Arts and Humanities. We are also happy to consider you if you have alternative qualifications — provided you can demonstrate specialist subject matter knowledge in one or more areas in the arts and culture (and you love reading). The articles we produce (unlike popular media) are to the best academic standards. The ideal person, therefore, should enjoy writing articles that are well-researched yet written in an accessible format suitable for the public at large.

About Leicester Print Workshop
Leicester Print Workshop, an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, offers high quality printmaking facilities and development opportunities for artists in the East Midlands and beyond. Its outreach activities in local schools and the community aim to increase participation in printmaking among people of all ages. The organisation is currently seeking trustees to help guide its strategic direction during an important phase of development.
Key Skills Sought
To complement the skills of our existing trustees, we are seeking individuals with significant experience in philanthropic fundraising, financial management or development of online learning. Previous experience as a trustee would be helpful, but training will be provided for those taking on their first board appointment.
