Caring Volunteers Needed: Are you concerned about our world’s future? Do you enjoy Human Relations and thrive working in the human relations division of any Institution, University or Association? Then we need you.
As an online “ At Home” Volunteer, you will be working with people from a wide variety of countries and cultures, all believing in passing on the right to basic education, the importance of cultural exchange, and giving voice to the voiceless.
The Position: We ask Volunteers to contribute a minimum of one hour a month. Within our Human Resource Division you will be learning to process applicants from around the world, assigning them to appropriate Teams and coordinating the Team Leads training sessions and monthly meetings. While English is required, you will learn to be comfortable with various global accents as well as proficient in your Interviewing skills and background research. You will practice team organizing & management skills. Depending on which teams you join, you will learn non profit contracts, global time zone coordination and other very basic, practical skills when working with people Internationally and online.

What is the purpose of this role?
To support vulnerable people living in Nottingham City through the provision of practical and social support.
What impact does this role have?
Supports vulnerable people (18 and over), to live independently in the community.
What activities might you be involved in?
The following are examples of the type of support you could be asked to provide:
- Shopping
- Collecting prescriptions
- Wellbeing checks on the phone and in person according to the person’s needs
- Providing emotional support

What are we looking for?

When would you be needed to volunteer?
Ideally, we ask all applicants to commit to providing a minimum of 2 hours volunteering a week at a time to meet your availability and our service requirements.

Role summary: Do you want to join our movement and defend the right to a safe home? You’ll be joining our wider community of 2,500 volunteers who fight for home in our shops and frontline services.As a Fight for Home Champion you will play an important role in your local community highlighting the critical work of Shelter. The role is supervised by the Community Fundraising team who are on hand to offer support and guidance. As a Fight for Home Champion, you own ideas for local involvement can be discussed with your local Community Fundraiser and full training and resources will be provided. We hope you’ll be able to bring your own ideas and connections to the role, as well as gain experience in supporting the work of Shelter.

Some volunteers also support with odd jobs like shopping, escorting the member to the centre or DIY tasks. Training and induction is provided.

At Koala NW, our volunteer support is at the heart of what we do and we know how much our families appreciate the support our volunteers offer.
As a Koala North West volunteer, you will be given the training and support to make a real difference to families in your community. You will also develop transferable skills which can support you in your life, whether that’s at home or at work. You will make friends along the way and join other volunteers for peer support sessions and join in celebrations like National Volunteers week & Christmas events.
Once you have completed your 6 session training programme, you will be matched to a suitable family to offer emotional and practical support. You will be supported by a coordinator and given support and supervision regularly.
Every family we support is unique so the support that we offer is equally unique to that family and depends entirely on the circumstances and what they would like support with. We help parents identify what they are already doing well, and support them to build on this to improve their relationships with their children.
You will be visiting families in their own homes once a week for an hour or two, if you have availability to support more than one family just let us know and you can be matched to additional families. Or you may be offering virtual support. During the pandemic, we had to adjust our home visiting to virtual support, via zoom, telephone /What’s App video calls/ texts. It proved very successful as this was a regular contact for families during lockdown.
Due to the success of virtual support, if families prefer this type of support as an alternative to home visits, that’s okay.
Support in one or more of the following areas could be offered:
- Social isolation/loneliness, support families to get outdoors, walking with them to the park or accompanying to appointments etc
- Poor emotional and/or mental health wellbeing
- Managing children’s behaviours/sleep issues
- School readiness
- Family bereavement
- Disability/complex needs or ill health
- New baby/multiple births
- Difficulty with home management/routine
- Budgeting
All home visits by volunteers are carried out between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. (Flexible around family and work commitments)

- You are able to attend a 6 session training course. Training is held locally and runs 1 day a week for 6 consecutive weeks between 9.30am and 2.30pm

MHA’s mission is to inspire the best care and wellbeing at every stage of later life. At MHA Lauriston, we provide residential, nursing, and residential dementia care for 60 residents.
Our care home is a busy environment with a variety of activity happening every day. As a General Care Home Assistant, you’ll support the team with a variety of tasks that vary each week.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Support residents with activities
- Support residents to access gardens
- Spend time with residents – playing games or chatting
- Delivering laundry to residents’ rooms
- Serve meals
- Set up activity sessions and general tidy after
- Basic admin– filing, photocopying, and updating noticeboards etc.
- Joining in with events or fundraising
- You must ensure that residents needs are put first, whilst respecting their privacy and independence
- You’ll maintain confidentiality
- You will be familiar with and adhere to MHA’s Health and Safety Policies and policies relating to your volunteering role.

Training, support, and requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years old
- A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and two character references are required
- Induction and training on safeguarding, health and safety and other training relevant to the role
- Ongoing support from a named contact
Times and Commitment:
- Monday-Sunday-11am-1pm. At least two hours a week.
- We ask you to be able to commit on a regular basis for a minimum of six months
