Job description

Do you want to work in a role where you can support people to rebuild their lives?

This is a fixed term contract ending 18 February 2027.

About the role

We are currently looking for a Custody and Probation HAWk worker to be based in a Prison Establishment and Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) to support The Probation Services objective in reducing reoffending.

In this role you will be assessing clients’ housing needs and take action to prevent homelessness by;

  • Supporting clients to retain existing accommodation or to relinquish tenancies to avoid accruing rent arrears and debt.
  • To support clients who will be homeless on release to access appropriate accommodation.
  • Working alongside The Probation Service to achieve set interventions to prevent homelessness.
  • Working as part of a larger team based across 10 prisons and multiple probation offices.
  • The post requires the successful candidate to be in prison establishments 4 days a week in prison and 1 day a week at the PDU.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Some experience of working with ex-offenders and people who are homeless/at risk of becoming homeless.
  • The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team within the prison and probation environment and to maintain effective relationships with external agencies.
  • The ability to work flexibly in a changing and often challenging environment.
  • The ability to work to agreed deadlines and targets.
  • The ability to cope with clients with multiple needs, who may display challenging behavior.
