Job description

To promote the health and wellbeing of destitute asylum seekers in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

 

Responsible to                       Operations manager

Hours:                                     .8FTE (equivalent to 4 days per week)

Salary                                      £21,157 – £23,339 pro rata of £26446 - £29,174

Place of work:                         Birmingham office and from home

 

Job description:

  1. Help destitute asylum seekers referred to the Hope Legal Project register with a GP
  2. Help them understand their entitlement to healthcare
  3. Help them obtain an up to date HC2 certificate and understand how to use it
  4. Help them understand routes to access health services that they may need
  5. Identify any safeguarding issues and manage them in line with Hope Safeguarding policy.
  6. Help them to access health services that they may need
  7. Carry out health and wellbeing assessments, including identifying activities that boost their wellbeing and resilience
  8. Help them create a health and wellbeing plan
  9. Build a resource of accessible wellbeing activities including:
    1. Sports
    2. Creative arts
    3. Volunteering
    4. Outdoor activities
    5. Educational activities including English language
    6. Opportunities to make new friends
    7. Support services
  10. Help them to engage with and participate in appropriate wellbeing activities
  11. Accurately record work with clients using outlook diary and lamplight database.
  12. Assess the ongoing impact of the work
  13. Build relationships with organisations, volunteers and charities
  14. Contribute to planning and the development of Hope Project
  15. To provide training where required
  16. Attend Team Meetings, Steering Group and other Partner meetings.
  17. To maintain a good relationship with other Hope staff and partners
  18. Contribute to the wider work of Hope Projects including fundraising and awareness raising.
  19. Help raise awareness of Hope Projects and the issue of asylum destitution
  20. Engage with regular support and supervision
  21. Undertake training when required

 

Person specification

Essential

Experience

  1. Proven experience of working supportively with people under stress
  2. Experience of promoting well being

Ability

  1. Good listener
  2. Organised, able to manage varied workload
  3. Capable of working on own initiative outside of an office environment
  4. Able to work sensitively within professional boundaries
  5. Good written and spoken English
  6. Ability to use common office IT software
  7. Able to work within a budget

Knowledge and understanding

  1. Understanding of issues affecting destitute asylum seekers
  2. Knowledge and awareness of promoting well-being.
  3. Knowledge of migrant entitlements to healthcare

Qualities

  1. Empathy towards destitute asylum seekers
  2. Good at communicating with colleagues and managers
  3. Willing and able to travel around Birmingham
