About the Royal School for the Blind Charity
The Royal School for the Blind Charity Liverpool is a charity that runs both a School for young people aged 2-19 years old and an adult day service for young adults over the age of 19 with vision impairment, sensory, or additional needs. Although our funding comes from a variety of sources, we are starting to fundraise to support our income and make our work more sustainable for the future. Income generated will support the development of our pupils and young adults, prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life and encourage their independence, communication and mobility.
Why this role matters
We have ambitious plans for the future including building a new Centre to provide opportunities for therapies and independent growth for young people, and we know that developing sustainable voluntary income will be critical to achieving them. That's why we're investing in fundraising and creating this new role. As our first Development Manager, you'll have the opportunity to build our fundraising approach from the ground up, developing new relationships with individuals, businesses, communities and charitable funders and helping us tell the story of our work to new audiences.
Role Overview and Application Process
Job Title: Charity Development Manager
Hours: Full Time (37 hours per week)
Location: This role can be either office-based at the Royal School for the Blind Charity, or hybrid.
Responsible to: Charity Leadership Group and managed by Head of Central Services
Pay Scale: £35k - £40k, depending on experience (NJC 26-30)
Term: Two-year fixed term in the first instance, with the ambition to establish fundraising as a sustainable long-term function within the charity.
This is a rare opportunity to build and shape a new fundraising operation from the ground up, playing a pivotal role in the long-term growth and sustainability of the Royal School for the Blind Charity. As the function develops, there will be scope to expand its reach and impact, offering excellent potential for career progression.
The Charity Development Manager will lead efforts to secure vital income that underpins the charity’s vision and purpose, driving support through donor engagement, targeted campaigns, and strategic fundraising initiatives. Our long-term ambition is to build a diversified fundraising programme capable of generating approximately £400,000 annually. This role will be instrumental in developing and delivering a growing, high-performing fundraising portfolio.
We are looking for an experienced fundraising professional who can design and deliver a robust, evidence-based fundraising strategy. This will involve gaining a deep understanding of the charity’s mission, stakeholders, and audiences, as well as the broader funding landscape, creating a diversified and effective approach that maximizes income and long-term sustainability. This is an exciting time for the Charity as we become much more outward-looking. Alongside our existing work, we have begun a capital building project to enhance our resources. When completed, the new Rushton Centre will house facilities which are open to the public, including a hydrotherapy pool and a café. At the heart of this is a wish to make the Royal School for the Blind Charity part of the fabric of the City.
In this new post we are looking for someone who can help open up our work to the wider public: the role is well suited to an experienced fundraiser looking for autonomy and the opportunity to help shape the next chapter in the charity’s history.
Although this is a new standalone fundraising role, you won't be building the function in isolation. The post sits within a well-established and supportive team and will be strategically led by the Charity Leadership group and Board of Trustees. In addition, you will have access to colleagues across our services to help bring our impact to life, and support to develop campaigns and engage new audiences. Alongside this, the Charity is currently fundraising for a capital project for a significant new building to resource our activities and reach out into the wider community. Whilst this is a separate project, in the future there will be exciting opportunities to link the new building into the core fundraising strategy.

Contract: Full Time, Fixed Term (6 months)
Salary: £29,151.91 (£32,727.26 if based in London/receiving London Office Allowance) plus competitive pension
Location: Flexible, hybrid. If you are based in London or receiving London Office Allowance you are required to attend the London office twice a week. If you are based outside of London, you are required to attend the London office once a month. (Please note that travel to the London office is at your own expense)
This six-month role has been created to provide additional capacity during a busy period of organisational growth and change, with a particular focus on supporting a high volume of recruitment activity and providing an efficient, inclusive and candidate-focused recruitment service across the organisation
Alongside recruitment, the role will support the People Officer with onboarding new starters and provide high-quality HR administration across the employee lifecycle. This is a fast-paced and varied role that would suit someone with an interest in recruitment, who is highly organised, proactive and passionate about delivering excellent people services.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment
- Coordinate recruitment activity across the organisation, ensuring vacancies are advertised effectively on relevant platforms and within agreed timescales.
- Manage recruitment administration, including scheduling interviews, coordinating assessment activities and maintaining accurate recruitment records and trackers.
- Act as a key point of contact for candidates and hiring managers throughout the recruitment process, delivering a positive and inclusive experience.
- Coordinate reasonable adjustments for candidates and support the organisation's commitment to equitable and inclusive recruitment practices.
Onboarding
- Support the People Officer in coordinating onboarding activities for new starters, ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition into the organisation.
- Assist with preparing contracts, offer letters and onboarding documentation.
- Coordinate induction schedules, meetings and introductory sessions with managers and key stakeholders.
Administration
- Provide high-quality administrative support across the employee lifecycle, maintaining accurate employee records and HR systems.
- Act as a first point of contact for routine People Team queries, providing timely responses and escalating where appropriate.
- Provide administrative support to People Team projects and initiatives as required.

A little bit about you
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of coordinating recruitment processes within a busy environment and managing multiple recruitment activities simultaneously
- Experience of providing high-quality administrative support, ideally within a People/HR function
- Knowledge of recruitment best practice and an understanding of the importance of delivering an excellent candidate experience.
- Experience of using applicant tracking systems, HR systems or other database management systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel
- Understanding of employee onboarding processes and HR administration.
- Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion principles and their application within recruitment and people practices

Location: Hybrid- 2 days per week in London Office
The Culture and Operations Director (COD) ensures Frontline is a high-performing, well-governed charity with a strong culture of freedom and responsibility - a place people can do their best work to achieve Frontline’s mission.
They have strategic responsibility for charity-wide planning to ensure Frontline’s operational functions, effectively support teams to navigate challenges whilst maximising new opportunities. The successful candidate will join Frontline at a pivotal moment and play a key role in driving the next exciting step of our growth.
The COD will ensure high-quality operational support is available to all teams. Working closely with Frontline’s Leadership Group (Heads and Directors), to make sure that the appropriate and timely information, tools and guidance (e.g. HR, IT and finance) are available to managers and teams as needed. This includes working alongside other members of SLT, to:
- Confidently support Frontline through a period of growth and structural change
- Embody the culture of freedom and responsibility, leading by example, and implementing strategies which improve efficiency and quality
- Maintain Executive oversight of Frontline’s finances, working with Head of Finance and Finance Audit and Risk Committee (FARC) Chair to ensure budgeting and financial decision-making is robust and strategic, to support the ongoing stability of the charity
- Maintain clear communication across teams, ensuring a connected and informed workforce who collaborate effectively. Oversee the success of key events such as annual all-staff away days, monthly gatherings and leadership stocktakes
- Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders including Frontline trustees, partner organisations and the Department for Education (DfE)
- Effectively lead teams to maintain Frontline's strong track-record of meeting legal/regulatory requirements, to minimise risk to the charity
Key Responsibilities
The COD will lead teams delivering on operational priorities in line with freedom and responsibility, to ensure we remain high performing:
Change management:
- Lead the coordination and project-management of an organisation-wide restructure, ensuing the charity is well-positioned to deliver on contractual obligations whilst diversifying to further amplify our impact and that teams are kept well-informed and feed into structural changes
- Support Frontline teams to work collaboratively and deliver plans to broaden the scope of Frontline's work, extending activity beyond current areas of focus whilst maintaining a strong, shard commitment to Freedom and Responsibility.
- Develop and adhere to tracking and monitoring systems ensuring annual priorities remain on track to achieve Frontline's mission and long-term strategy.
People and Culture:
- Manage the Head of People to identify new and creative ways to further strengthen and embed our culture and grow personal accountability
- Support the Head of People to ensure excellent HR administration, support and use of data (e.g. staff turnover, sickness levels and performance reporting) to inform future planning and decision-making
- Ensure the team design and deliver high-quality staff induction and training which support staff to thrive (e.g. personal leadership, managing effectively and radical candour)
- Maintain awareness of trends and developing technologies to support efficiencies, e.g approaches to recruitment and support to managers.
Finance and Governance:
- Manage Head of Finance and Compliance to ensure sound budget management (£25m annually), financial controls and clear reporting mechanisms are in place
- Work with the Finance team to ensure FARC and the board have the necessary information and confidence in the financial leadership of Frontline.
Charity Quality and Efficiency:
- Manage and support IT and System leads across Frontline, ensuring they have the resources and compliance mechanisms to ensure robust systems are in place.
- Support Contract Governance teams to negotiate and implement significant government contracts, ensuring outcomes are achievable and effective governance and commercially sound contracts are in place.
