This exciting pilot is a new approach to preventing rough sleeping, through the provision of accommodation with onsite specialist move-on support to those who are at immediate risk of sleeping rough. The service will provide a route and support for single homeless clients who are presenting to the Local Authority Housing Options or day centres and at imminent risk of rough sleeping, but not yet rough sleeping.

Where their homelessness cannot be prevented by the council and they are at imminent risk of sleeping rough, a referral can be made into the Rough Sleeping Prevention service.

The service will be based across three London locations in Islington, Lambeth and Kensington and Chelsea and staff will be based expected to work across all three sites

• Work on 7 day rolling rota inclusing early, mid and late shifts 
•  (K&C): medium – high support accommodation.
•  (Lambeth): medium support accommodation.
•  (Islington): Assessment hub space for up to 15 clients. Site will operate 24/7.

Each site will have staff delivering casework and support, providing each person with a comprehensive assessment of their needs and circumstances, and intensive specialist support to secure move on.

In this role you will jointly manage the safe day to day running of the project with other members of the team and to provide basic support and advice to clients.

About you

• Some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment. 

• Personal experience of homelessness and/or an understanding of; and empathy with the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people.

About the role

The St Pancras Community Association (SPCA) is a charity delivering high quality services for Camden residents, especially the lively and diverse community of the St Pancras and Somers Town ward.   Main tasks

• Overseeing all fundraising activities from trusts, the local authority, local businesses and the community.

Role Summary

As the Director of Research and Public Affairs you lead a team working across the full range of research work (including commissioning, grant-making and in-house research) and public affairs work (including policy analysis, advocacy work and mobilising our activists). You also contribute to the charity’s strategies, leadership and governance as a member of the Executive Team. Ultimately, your role is to generate new knowledge; and communicate knowledge, ideas and emotions to change hearts and minds, creating tangible reductions in alcohol harm across the UK.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership, strategy & planning

1. Lead the research and public affairs functions at Alcohol Change UK.

2. Produce and deliver plans across our research and public affairs work programmes that are ambitious for change (impact), realistic given our resources, and consistent with our strategy, our other work programmes, and our values.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.

6. Ensure that all research is designed with impact-in-mind and, once complete, that it delivers on that impact through active and ongoing communication of the findings to the right audiences with the right messages through the right channels.

7. Lead the research function to be the central hub for the charity on the topic of alcohol harm and its solutions, staying on top of new research.

8. Influence the research spending of other agencies (e.g. NIHR) with a view to maximising funding into alcohol research in general.

Public Affairs

9. Lead and manage the charity’s public affairs activity, deploying the CEO, Research & Policy Officer and other staff as a team.

10.  Lead our work with external alliances, such as the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Alcohol and Families Alliance, and on the APPG on Alcohol Harm.

11.  Develop excellent relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, charities and other important institutional actors in our field.

12.  Build Campaigner journeys for our engagement audience to best mobilise them to help us with our influencing work.

13.  Lead on the commissioning and management of any external public affairs agencies, parliamentary monitoring services and similar suppliers.

14.  Ensure our policy positions are kept up-to-date, based on emerging evidence and contemporary thinking, and consistent with our principles.

15.  Work closely with the Director of Engagement and Fundraising to effectively mobilise and deploy our activists, Community Champions and other supporters so they (i) make a difference, (ii) become better informed over time, and (iii) remain motivated to campaign for our cause.

16.  Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to influence all forms of media to better support our desired outcomes.

Team Leadership and Management

17.  Lead and manage the research and public affairs team(s), ensuring excellent line management.

Transition Together is seeking to continue the work of deepening connection and growing the voice of the Transition Movement in England and Wales through the freelance engagement of three Network Weavers. This exciting project will see this team, supported by Transition Together staff, co-design an in person Transition Assembly early next year to guide the future of our Movement in the UK as well as build relationships with Transitioners across Wales and England and connect to emerging and established networks across the UK. We are looking for a Mental Health Carers Advisor who possesses an understanding of the challenges of unpaid caring and whose experience of working within mental health services includes support, prevention, recovery, and self-management. Applicants should possess effective skills in communication and have experience of completing assessments, managing a diverse caseload and working in a busy work environment. An ability to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and to show initiative is essential for this role.

Caseworker

Forces Employment Charity is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Caseworker to join our team working on the CFO (Co-financing Organisation) programme in partnership with the probation service. In this role, you will provide specialist support to veterans within the criminal justice system, focused on early intervention, support and diversion to prevent re-offending. New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. • Further develop understanding of what activities, support and opportunities people in Aberfeldy see as important for their health and wellbeing.
• Further develop the ABL service to ensure it responds to what matters to the local community, working with members of the community to co-design, develop, deliver, commission and review resident-led activities and initiatives both in the ABL space and other local community venues.

• An understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerable people and the difficulties they experience in accessing services.

The objectives of the Communications and Campaigns team are to increase the public profiles of Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health UK, mobilise public support to bring about change and ensure that all colleagues are aware of, bought into and engaged in contributing to the values and direction of the charities.

How you will make a difference

I am a social media expert who thrives on planning, creating and delivering high quality content across Rethink Mental Illness’s and Mental Health UK’s social media channels (Twitter/X, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube).

I disseminate our messages and information to key audiences through clear and engaging social media posts that are tailored for different networks. I monitor the performance of our posts and I am proactive in incorporating best practice to ensure that our posts are well received by our audiences, and that our presence on our social media channels grows.

I regularly collaborate with colleagues across both charities, and the other founding charities of Mental Health UK, and key partners to create compelling and inspiring content.

Overview of the role

• After 50 years of southern-led impact at scale, BRAC is more determined than ever to create opportunities to realise human potential. In order to do this, BRAC is looking to raise awareness of its work and values amongst key stakeholders in strategic markets across Europe. Engaging regularly and effectively with the media in Europe is therefore vital. 
   
• The Media Engagement Lead will play a leading role in designing and delivering BRAC’s media engagement plans across Europe. This is a pivotal time for BRAC as we begin to invest in relationship development for influence and partnerships across Europe, and this is a vital role in determining the success of this new chapter.
   
• The role will be based in London, a Global Media Hub, but will be tasked with supporting media engagement with publications across Europe, particularly in Germany and Scandinavia.
   
• The Lead will be the focal point for BRAC’s media engagement across Europe and contribute significantly to both securing new media relationships and making the most of existing ones.
   
• This role offers the opportunity to create real change, leveraging the half-century legacy of BRAC – as a world-leading, Southern-led INGO – to develop a strategic media approach towards major European actors and share BRAC’s story with our target audiences through the media.

We are looking for a Head of People & Culture to lead the Foundation’s People Team and be a key part of the directorate Leadership Team. Working with the Chief People Officer, the role provides strategic leadership to their team in embedding a business partnering approach and working across the employee lifecycle with the aim of maximising employee engagement through proactive and expert management of employee relations supported by effective and proportionate people processes. The role is responsible for leading the People Team to drive people management initiatives; support the Foundation’s Strategy and deliver a strategic plan to achieve this; and, promote the Foundation’s values, shaping a positive culture.

Key Responsbilities

Embedding Business Partnering

• Oversee and coach the People Team (and to personally deliver where required) on an effective business partnering approach, including:

• Developing a thorough understanding of the Foundation and relevant business areas and their strategic plans.

• Building effective relationships with leadership teams of designated business areas to provide insights into people management strategies.

• Developing plans and implement tailored people management interventions to support business areas to achieve their strategic aims.

• Working with business leads to identify skills and capabilities needed currently and in the future and proactively working with the Talent Management Hub to ensure that talent is acquired, developed and managed so that emerging and planned people and business needs are responded to.

• Using data and other metrics to identify trends and monitor progress.

• Ensure that the People Team proactively work with their business areas to manage staff and implement early and effective interventions to prevent employee relations issues escalating unnecessarily.

People Operations

• Work across the employee lifecycle to develop a best-in-class employee experience.

• Ensure that all relevant aspects of the employment relationship are informed by policies and processes which are fit for purpose, comply with legislation, reflect best practice and support the Foundation’s strategy and culture development.

• Contribute to the Charity’s strategic approach to DEI (working with the DEI Lead) and work to actively embed practices which promote diversity, equity and inclusion across the Charity’s approach to people and HR processes.

• Ensure that pay and reward processes and effectively designed and managed to provide value for money, attract the right candidates and is motivational for employees. Ensure this is reviewed with external and internal benchmarking on a regular basis.

• Ensure that the Foundation’s pension scheme is managed effectively, including administering regular reviews. • Lead on the ongoing measurement of employee engagement through in- depth and pulse employee opinion surveys and action planning activities; ensuring that plans are implemented and progress monitored.

Advice and Support

• Advise the Leadership Team on HR policy and other HR matters.

• Coach the People Team to and personally case manage complex employee relations cases, including tribunals - liaising with line managers, the Chief People Officer, and relevant legal advisors to make sure that the Charity’s reputation and interests are protected at all times.

• Act as a point of contact for employees to discuss confidential matters or grievances. Systems and processes

• Oversee the People Team to ensure that the capability of all People technology solutions is maximised, including the use of automation and that all new systems are effectively implemented and maintained

• Ensure that all administrative processes are designed to be robust and accurate with the aim of supporting management processes; providing a positive employee experience; and, for the production of management information.

• Ensure that effective systems, checks and balances are in place for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and pensions each month.

• Ensure the collation of good quality data across all activities and develop metrics and evaluation processes to measure effectiveness.

• Draft ad hoc and routine reports in relation to the People & Culture strategy.

• Responsible for the development and delivery of the People Team management information and corresponding dashboards

• Track-record of designing and implementing People strategies and plans

• Experience of implementing and developing technological solutions and designing effective processes supporting these.

• Experience of procuring services or solutions and effective management of suppliers
