Job Purpose

The finance team is a core part of our Operations Directorate, and although we’re a small team we have a huge impact on the effectiveness of our organisation. The team provides support and guidance to all staff members on how to process invoices, expenses, and generally manage their budgets effectively. The main purpose of the Finance Officer role is to provide key support to the finance team with our finance processes, supporting staff members across the organisation, helping with any queries on a day-to-day basis, as well as supporting our members and suppliers with queries. The Finance Officer ensures all financial transactions are processed in accordance with BSR’s procedures and processes and in line with data protection regulations. 

You don’t need to have worked in the charity sector previously. Continual professional development is vital for us as a team, and so we’re happy to support you if you’re interested in completing a professional finance qualification.

Main Responsibilities

Purchase Ledger 

• Receive all supplier invoices (including member expenses), checking correct finance codes with relevant nominal, department, project, VAT and fund codes are on all invoices, and that the necessary authorisation is present 
• Scan and file all finance related documents (e.g. bank statements)  
• Set up fortnightly supplier payment runs for review by the Finance Manager 

 Sales Ledger

Key Responsibilities

 Supporter Services

•  Lead the development and delivery of the new supporter services function considering people (capability, capacity and culture), processes, tools and technologies needed to deliver outstanding customer service so new and existing supporters feel valued and connected to the ESU’s mission.
• Design and implement supporter recruitment, development and retention plans including welcome journeys and approaches for reactivating dormant supporters.
• Work closely with the Marketing team to create segmented messaging to highlight the impact and value of the ESU’s work to Alumni, Members and Volunteers in the UK.
• Oversee payment processes and supporter payment journeys on our CRM, Salesforce.
• Work with the Marketing team to design ad hoc impactful events in person and online to convene our global audience.
• Work with the Marketing team to promote our flagship events to our supporter audience to encourage attendance. 

Volunteering

• Design and implement a volunteering strategy which includes automating the volunteer experience, recruiting new volunteers and promoting ESU volunteering opportunities to relevant organisations as well as current and future supporters
• Own the volunteer training programme, including reviewing and refreshing training and ensuring all volunteers are appropriately trained.
• Match volunteers to ESU competition heats and resolve queries escalated by the Supporter Engagement Coordinator.
• Form partnerships with relevant organisations to grow the ESU’s pool of volunteers.
• Work with the Education team to create a high quality volunteer experience

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• 5+ years experience working in a partnerships, supporter services, volunteering or account management role
• Demonstrable experience of having delivered successful services to a range of supporters/customers.
• Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering meaningful supporter journeys across multiple channels
• Demonstrable experience of growing and sustaining a pool of high quality volunteers through successful recruitment and development strategies
• Demonstrable experience of using a CRM (preferably Salesforce) to identify trends and drive improvements.

Desirable:

• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as marketing or communications
• An understanding of the nature and importance of the ESU’s charitable work and a strong commitment to increasing the reach of the organisation’s work.
• Experience of writing volunteer training programmes
• Experience working with international volunteers
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and competing priorities within a fast-paced environment
• Experience of writing for different audiences.

The global Chief Financial Officer of Open Doors International has a key leadership role both within the line-managed Open Doors International entity, and more widely across the Global Finance Network of development and field offices. The CFO reports to the CEO and works closely with other executives on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Accounting (including transactional management and audit), Risk & Compliance, Treasury & Cash Management, Financial Data & Systems, Field Finance, Development Finance and Transformational Programs.

The CFO ensures Open Doors International is known for its excellent stewardship by delivering world-class and well-coordinated financial functions that contribute to excellent operations, risk management, forward-planning and mature governance.

You will:

• Be an experienced CFO with a strong track record of operating in international organisational structures, with exposure to developing markets, complex treasury and money transfer functions, and high-risk environments.
• Have experience of leading strategy formation, team supervision and timely delivery in a complex network or matrix style structures.

• Approximately 15 years of senior finance operational leadership experience prefered in multi-national commercial sector and/or international charity sector.
• Significant team management experience, including remote working across different time zones.
• Proven ability to lead change, including working well across many operational disciplines (Field programs, IT, Legal and HR teams, for example).
• Oversight of a complex treasury function providing financial access across geographical locations.
• Experience communicating and providing reports to Board Audit & Finance Committee.
